How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

No air conditioning or Wi-Fi in the rooms .

Our location is definitely wonderful, so close to town, at just one kilometer away, and in between the canals and the ocean, while offering the most tranquil and peaceful experience surrounded by the rainforest and the wildlife. Thank you also for your observaciones regarding a/c and wifi. We do offer free wifi in the public areas of the Lodge, but not in the rooms. Once again, it was a pleasure having you here.

Verified reviewIt’s very peaceful and the pool, bar and restaurant area is lovely. The staff were great and we really enjoyed our time there. The tours were great, especially the turtle tour.
I wish the restaurant served more local cuisine and the rooms could accommodate a whole family.

Verified reviewWell maintained gardens, confortable room; nice details, for example the 'ranario' in a corner of the garden, where you can spot red-eyed tree frogs. The trail from the hotel to the village is excellent for spotting wildlife (morpho buterflies, macaws, I even saw a green vine snake)
Some damage due to high humidity, for example the safe boxes.

The restaurant is expensive and the food is bad. No AC, no internet nor phone in the rooms. There was a regional power outage and the hotel does not have a working generator. As a result no electricity, no foid and no water. The tours organized by the hotel are expensive. Better to contract a private tour to see the turtles. The ones organized by the hotel are expensive, and poorly organized.

All of our rooms have been built to let breeze in and out of the rooms, have high celings and excellent ceiling fans. When in a environmentally fragile location like ours, we decided against a/c to reduce our environmental Impact, but we Took precautions to provide, without it, a comfortable experience to our guests. Our rooms, intendently dont have phones. The idea is for you to immerse in the experience and enjoy the jungle that surrounds us, with the wildlife venia so alive and present, I am very sorry this was not to your Liking. We sincerely apologize for the challenges you faced during the regional power outage. Unfortunately, the outage was beyond our control, and being in such a remote tropical location, it Took the Community longer than usual to have power back, and although we do have a power generator that provided electricity to all of our guests for most of the time, it was then insufficient with the regional conditions. Verified reviewTortuguero is the most amazing place, being just out of town but 10min walk in seeing all the flora and fauna in abundance was such a great experience. Also sitting in the rocking chairs on the deck, watching river life was so idyllic The wildlife around the lodges was amazing, especially the birdlife 🥰🥰 Nice pool area to dip and cool off in ... Verified reviewThe location was wonderful. Right on the river and the ocean. Perfect for early morning walks on the beach and just 15 minutes from the town. The sitting areas in the river were peaceful and beautiful. The pool was very relaxing and beautiful. The breakfast was delicious with fruit, breads, juices and eggs if desired. The arrangements for tours were convenient and guides did a nice job. Communication with the desk was good as I had to change my reservation last minute.
The room without AC was uncomfortably hot, especially in the day but even at night. The fan was a slow fan and it was not sufficient to move air in the room. Wifi did not extend to the rooms which would have been nice.

The staff/servers at dinner need better training. They walk around without asking if guests need or would like anything. We had to get their attention a couple of times. That was only at dinner in the main dining room. The rest of the time, everything was great

Verified reviewTortoguero is a hidden place far away from cities, cars, etc. I think that's something that needs to be kept in mind when travelling here. The hotel had everything we needed, food, swimming pool, big garden. You can even book tours in Tortoguero through the hotel, which is perfect because then the pick up is directly at the hotel. The room was what we needed to sleep and rest. Something we didn't expect is that the room didn't have windows, but rather just a net so mosquitoes and other bugs don't get in. Since there is no airco but a fan, this is helpful during the night to cool the room down. We were initially worried it would be too warm to sleep but it was actually completely fine, as it rains a lot (especially in May) and since there are no actual windows it cools down to a good temperature to sleep :) Makes you feel a bit more like you're part of nature. There is only wifi in the common areas but that's okay as we were very busy with tours and sitting at the swimming pool. We loved our time in Tortoguero also thanks to Mawamba :)

a few more signs around the property would be helpful, we were forever getting lost (probably our fault) & was not easy to find the path that then leads into the town. dinner food could be slightly improved for the cost, but it was still nice :)

Power out, so no fan for one night which was pretty hot, I think it affected the entire area though. Food at the restaurant was fine.
