How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewVery well maintained property up in the hills near the Avellanas area. You’re in the mountains but close to the beach, so it’s a perfect balance. Feels isolated but you’re actually a short drive from all the area’s spots. Cabins are very well appointed, comfortable and private. Owner/Manager is very involved and available.
Having to leave 😂
Thank you for your review 🥰 was a pleaser to meet you. Warmly Lolo

Verified reviewMikato is made up of 6 individual guest cabins on about 7 acres of rugged terrain. The area and scenery are typical of the Guanacaste area of Costa Rica. I recommend having a car. Many small restaurants, bars, grocery stores and beaches (including busy Tamarindo) are within 15 to 30 minute drives from here. There is enough natural vegetation and landscaping that all cabins have visual privacy. The cabins are really nice, well maintained, very clean and modern. The a.c. worked very well, and there was a ceiling fan too. Each cabin has a private, covered deck... we used ours almost every morning and night. The open air (screened) bathroom was great. Lolo (the owner) is a very nice person who always wants the best for you... she works non-stop. She's great. The breakfast is simple and very good... fruit, eggs, juice, coffee, yogurt and wonderful bread that Lolo bakes fresh each morning. There is a lovely, landscaped, well maintained pool... we made sue to spend at least a few hours there each day, and also used it in the later evenings with the stars and Moon overhead. Daily room service kept our cabin spotless. Though Makato is no cut-rate place to stay, we found it to be one of our best choices throughout our four extended visits to Costa Rica. We loved it.
Thank you for this review with lot of details. Warmly Lolo

Verified reviewWe loved it here! From the moment we stepped in we felt like visiting friends. Breakfast was amazing, made to order, Lolo even got us a goat milk from a local farmer. Woke up every morning to the sounds of nature. Well maintained property.

Verified reviewThe property is spectacularly beautiful with open vistas through magnificent trees and other foliage. The owners have done a great job with landscaping especially around the pool and each one of the private cabanas. Lolo is an excellent host that lovingly prepared our incredible breakfasts each morning. Plenty of coffee, juice, freshly cut fruits, homemade bread and yogurt. We enjoyed lazing around the pool, hiking the property, watching birds, monkeys, and iguanas. We will be back!
Thank you William, was a pleaser. Hope to see you soon again 😍 warmly Lolo

Verified reviewThe property is beautifully designed and very well maintained. We stayed in Lodge 2 with a spectacular view of the rainforest and the Pacific ocean. Lollo, the host, is an excellent cook (we enjoyed dinner) and a very friendly and helpful host.
Access to the property is not easy with a 2WD car. Roads are gravel roads at best and sometimes very rocky. We were fortunate that the road was repaired (gravel added) just a few weeks before. But the location is well worth it!
Thank you Martin. Happy new year. Warmly Lolo

Verified reviewI had the most wonderful experience at this lodge. Everything is perfect, the bungalows are modern and clean, the bed is so comfortable, the bathroom is exceptional. I would sit and stare at the amazing view mountain and sea view from my bungalow most evenings. My bungalow even had a bed with a built in large flat screen TV that would retract in and out of the bed frame. The site also had a wonderful infinity pool, a bar and eating area where lovely breakfasts are being serviced. The lodge also has a hot tub hut with a relaxing hot tub. All in all a very peaceful and relaxing experience and its close enough to Tamarindo or another nearby beach that have a large variety of bars and restaurants with a vibrant atmosphere. Lolo who is the owner of the lodge provides a wonderful service and make sure you are happy and comfortable at all times and is always up for a fun chat :) The BEST news is that the road to the lodge has now been fixed so it is comfortably accessible for all cars! You cannot go wrong with this lovely piece of paradise.

Verified reviewWe loved our stay at Mikado Lodge! It is an incredible property in the middle of the jungle. The room and deck were lovely as you feel like you are in the tree canopy with the sounds of howler monkeys, cicadas, and views of deer and so many species of birds. Bring your binoculars! We enjoyed the pool time, the little trail on site, and the troup of monkeys that came swinging through the trees through in the morning. Aside from the beauty of the nature, everything is just so polished and well-taken care of. It is clear that a lot of thought and time has gone into the design and care of this boutique hotel. The owner, Lolo, was a gracious and accommodating host. She whipped up some delicious meals and was so sweet with our one year old. Playa Avellana is close by so you can go from jungle to beach in about 15 minutes! We would definitely stay there again.

Verified reviewThe property was amazing. It had an upscale cottage feel with ALL the amenities of a luxurious hotel. Each bungalow on the property had a private feeling set in the mountains. Every morning it felt like your were at a safari with the howler monkey’s waking you up with there haunting howler sounds… JUST AMAZED!
The drive getting there was an adventure in itself. 4X4 IS A MUST!! The dirt roads and steep terrain made for some white knuckle driving!
Hi Luigi, hope Jessica and you are well. Thank you for taking time for the review. Yes, is a dirt road that goes up the mountain. This is what makes its charm and why we have this tranquility plus this fauna and flora. Yes a 4x4 is recommended. For equipment what is missing to get a 10 from you? Your comment is very important for me in order to improve myself and satisfy my guests. With live Lolo😘

Verified reviewSuch a gorgeous hotel! We had had a long road and needed to sleep well - we weren't disappointed. We slept so well and loved the swimming pool from which we could see monkeys in the trees whilst watching the sunset. A lovely romantic dinner also organised by the host! Really recommend it.

The beautiful surroundings of the premises, as well as exceptionally stylish rooms, planted among the trees, above ground. lolo with her kind, thoughtful attitude, is like a caring mother . her staff as well as her incredible kids, were there for our every need. waking up to amazing sounds of nature, grabbing coffee to the tree top balcony, was all I dreamt of. the pool, the food, the gardens, so well kept and tasteful. we had a really hard time to say goodbye. we already miss them.
nothing . I will add that it’s not for people who prefer crowds. it’s a private gorgeous getaway.
