How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewGreat shared amenities and restaurant. Loved the view of the volcano and enjoyed swimming at the wet bar hot spring! The landscaping was great and made you feel like you were nestled in the hill. Nice balcony and comfortable room.
Service could have been a bit faster at the restaurant.

Verified reviewStaff were very friendly with great recommendations for activities and restaurants. Also made our stay very enjoyable. We were close enough to town but far enough to feel the wilderness around. The hot springs and bar were a definite plus. Would book again for sure

Verified reviewIf you’re looking for a place where nature and comfort come together—with a story that’s just as rich as the landscape—Miradas Arenal Hotel & Hot Springs is the kind of spot you’ll carry with you long after check-out. Tucked into the rolling green hills near La Fortuna, this small, family-run hotel offers 11 cozy bungalows, a pool, a pop-up restaurant, lush tropical gardens, and best of all—naturally-fed hot springs. But the magic here isn’t just in the views or the healing waters. It’s in the story behind it all. Back in 1981, a 17-year-old Roberto Miranda was fishing in the wild rapids of the Arenal River when hot spring water surged unexpectedly over his body. It was a moment he never forgot. Years later, after marrying Estrella Ovares and building a life rooted in hard work, farming, and family, Roberto finally saw that same thermal water resurface—this time, in the land they owned. In 2017—31 years after that first encounter—the waters rose 840 feet up through the canyon and into the pools that now flow through Hotel Miradas Arenal. Today, guests get to soak in that same water while surrounded by the lush beauty of their working dairy farm. It’s a place where sustainability isn’t a trend—it’s a lifestyle. Fruit trees line the garden paths, birds are everywhere, and the family still takes part in daily farm life. You might even get to taste their homemade dairy products at breakfast. We stayed in the standard bungalow with a view of the volcano—though it was covered by fog and clouds during our visit. Still, like God or the universe, I knew the volcano was there, even though I couldn’t see it. The bed was beyond comfortable, and the blanket was absolutely divine—soft, cozy, and it smelled wonderful. My daughter almost missed breakfast because she was so snug and cuddled up in it that morning.

Verified reviewThe view from our balcony was phenomenal! We enjoyed sitting out and watching birds fly around with the volcano in the background. The room had all that we needed including helpful shelving and a fridge. We loved the hot springs pool with swim up bar! We took advantage of that each night after dinner.

Verified reviewWe loved this property, beautiful little bungalow, comfortable bed, large shower room and lovely terrace for watching the volcano. Great breakfast too. The hotel has its own hot springs and you can just relax and enjoy the swim up bar - the cocktails are great.

Verified reviewWe paid for a room with a volcano view—and they didn’t disappoint. The room was small, but well-designed and comfortable, with large windows opening up to a gorgeous view of the Arenal Volcano. The pool area is also very nice, and on several occasions we had it entirely to ourselves, which made it feel extra relaxing.
The door locks are not very intuitive, as the key needs to be turned several times in both directions before anything happens. The room was missing a "please make up my room" sign, which would have been useful. The shower was functional, but could have been better in terms of water pressure and temperature stability. The lighting in the room was generally sufficient, but could be improved—especially the reading light, which was too weak for comfortable reading in the evening.

Verified reviewWe enjoyed our stay in this hotel. The room was perfectly sized, with an amazing view of the volcano. The pool and thermal springs were fantastic to have near the room. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Considering the price, we would highly recommend this hotel.
The food options for vegans weren't fantastic, although they were very helpful at sorting something out for us. The breakfast could also be slightly improved, but this didn't impact our stay at all.
