Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):

To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

No complaints .. of course it’s a shame there was no sloth there at that time! But what can you do!?
This hotel was perfect for me, without having to stay out of the town centre. The room was great! Lovely bathroom and a comfy bed. It was nice have the coffee maker too. The hotel has a nice little pool and the garden walkway down to the river is a nice touch. I saw lizards and dart frogs down there, as well as a massive iguana in a tree one evening. All the staff were very nice. One lady even kindly walked me to my tour van with her umbrella. The hotel breakfast is good! There is a good choice. All the staff there for both breakfast and dinner were very friendly and attentive. Travelling alone if was great to be able to take dinner there too & it’s very reasonably priced - try their Casado.

Very comfortable, clean and well-kept. The rooms are spacious and have a fridge and a coffee maker, which we really liked. Rooms and facilities seem recently renovated, the pool is clean and nice to dip in if it’s hot. Very friendly staff, reception included. It’s located off the main through road but far enough not to get noisy. Lovely little back garden. Excellent value for money.

There was an error when I arrived and they gave me 1 bed instead of the 2 beds I had reserved, but the hotel fixed it for the following nights, we were moved to the correct 2 bed room.
Excellent location, walking distance to all restaurants, cute little river near by, we got to see a sloth. Breakfast was just OK, could be better. Plenty of parking available.

Slightly dated.
A very well located Hotel. In a quiet part of town very convenient for restaurants tour operators picked us up and dropped us back. Friendly Staff.

The staff were very helpful especially Alison the receptionist always very friendly she went the extra mile to help us with laundry, advice on tours restaurants and shopping. Setting and location perfect, in town but very quiet with a stream and a beautiful garden. Excellent value for money.

We had an amazing view of the volcano from bed, coffee in the room was great, AC worked well and the shower was powerful and hot. The pool was clean, and the breakfast was delicious. Also a nice touch to add a welcome drink!

The staff at the bar and restaurant were excellent! And the food terrific. Big breakfast! The place is very clean, great location, has a pool and lovely outdoor seating area. The best!

There were no issues
Breakfast and all other food at the onsite restaurant was very good . The location of the property is excellent. It has a stream running right behind it with lovely flora and fauna. It is also close to the town center with access to all facilities.

The hotel was nice and clean and the staff was very helpful and kind. We used the restaurant for dinner because of bad weather and it was very nice and the food quite good, and so was the included breakfast. The setting over a stream is lovely and we were able to bird watch from the restaurant

Very conveniently situated near the centre of La Fortuna. Next to river and small wildlife area where we saw iguanas, otters, sloth, kingfisher, humming birds, vulture and more! Nice restaurant on site.

Loved everything about this hotel. Location was perfect - walkable to food and activities, yet we felt like we were in the rainforest. Free breakfast was excellent, rooms were comfortable and clean, and staff were friendly and helpful. We couldn't have asked for more - thank you!!

La Fortuna streets and traffic are tough to deal with.
Excellent breakfast (free) and great evening meal and drinks (great value and service). Very nice and safe room with good AC and everything else that you need, Great info from servers and office staff. I highly recommend the float trip on a raft (you will paddle some) with Canoa Aventura Tour Operators. Excellent bilingual drivers and guides including a complimentary coffee and chocolate presentation at the end with drinks.

Sketchy person going around the parking lot during dark with flashlight looking in our vehicle. Told staff. Next morning awoke and all was ok with our vehicle.
Beautiful setting downtown. Well groomed property. Nice room with a balcony facing Arenal volcano. Beautiful breakfast served outdoors. Nice pool.

Perfect location with enchanting setting. The on site restaurant offered cafe latte, cold and hot. Breakfast was delicious and healthy/ vegetarian options were available. We strongly recommend this place. Perfect balance between price value.

Amazing stay at Monte real! The staff were very kind and helpful. Facilities were great. Bed was nice and extremely big and fluffy pillows. Best shower I had the whole time in costa rica. walking distance to everything. Best part was all the wildlife we saw around the hotel. there were two sloths in the trees over the river, river otters catching fish, so many birds. We saw more animals around the hotel than we did on tours. 10/10 recommend
