Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesNoisy. Someone was playing music in the common area until at least 3am.
Beautiful place. Decent location. Close to beaches, etc without the commotion of being downtown.

Costa RicaThe room description mentioned a private bathroom, but it's really shared with another room. Not too bad, but the description was not matching.
The host was welcoming and had great energy. It's pet friendly and the property is appropriate for bringing dogs. Very good location and definitely great value for the price.

United StatesI wish WiFi would be more stable. The hosts told me that the WiFi outside would behave better, and indeed it was, but only slightly. My Claro SIM card did not work either, so I had to use expensive gigabytes from my cloud SIM device.
Great location. Right next to Atlantic Corridor 36 and Route 256, close to Cahuita, Puerto Viejo and Bribri. The hosts are very welcoming and nice people.

Costa RicaI booked the accommodation thinking it was in Cahuita, but it isn't. It's somewhere in the road between Puerto Viejo and Cahuita. There isn't any shop or eatery within walking distance. If you don't have a car, you'll have to rely on bus or hitchiking to get anywhere or to source supply. I arrived earlier in the day because I wanted to leave my bags there prior to checking in. But there was no one there and the gate was locked so I coiuldn't get in. The email with the pin for the gate arrived only much later. When a friend dropped me in the evening, there were a whole bunch of dogs barking at me there and it took a while until the one human who was there came out. Stefano, who to my undertanding is a guest himself who is looking after the place while the owner is away overseas. The dogs, especially one large one turned out to be harmless but rarely stop barking. Stefan was really lovely, but turned out that it was just me and him in the hotel. He offered me free veges from the kitchen, given that I didn't bring food with me, not realising how isolated the place is. The room was super basic and not very pleasant. Very bare, with a bed, a noisy fan and one bright light in the ceiling, no other funiture or bedside lamp. Stefan showed me a very nice room upstairs, that looks comfortable and nicely decorated, but that was three time the price so I got back to my basic room downstairs, sharing shower and toilet with Stefan. The wifi wasn't working. At 1.30am the large dog woke me up barking right outside my window for quite a while. The road is quite noisy too with trucks etc. I think it would be hard to get a good night sleep if you're not a heavy sleeper. With the wifi not going, Stefan hot-spotted me in the morning so I could call an uber and get out of there. Thanks Stefan!
The person who welcomed me, Stefano, was lovely and friendly and did his best. The kitchen seems to be well equipped. A cozy outdoor sitting area if you don't mind the dogs checking you out all the time.

Costa RicaJust a minor detail but a bug screen in the balcony’s window would be perfect so you can sleep with it open without being afraid of the mosquitos.
This place is great value, it gives you anything you need to feel the Caribbean vibe, the staff makes you feel like home and is close enough to beaches without being in the crowded places.

PolandIt is said that the place is in Cahuita but it's far away from the town. You need a car, taxi or bus to get there. It would be better to say it straight away on the booking.com side to avoid misunderstanding. The place was dirty and smelled strange. In the metal container you felt like in prison. Small changes, like cleaning the fridge or sink would may change a general impression. The owner wasn't there so it was no one to complain to... No confirmation for payment (the neighbor was sent to collect money). I left the place with a relief. Never again.
Hard to find something I liked, really :/

GermanyThe twin bedroom had two bunk beds. And the "private bathroom" had two doors and shared with another room. We didn't know that when we did the booking because the information on booking.com was misleading
The staff was very nice and the location, too. The garden ist beautiyful and there has been a sloth in the trees.

This place is like a 3D painting in the rain forest. It has a very local vibe and is more like a finca than a hotel. The host and other guest were wonderful people. The place is surrounded by edible fruits and herbs. It is central to all of the best beaches in the Caribbean’s. Absolutely recommend!
