How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Verified reviewWe loved the pool area and the wonderful staff took great care of us. We utilized the shuttle to town for dinner a few times but found the food at the resort to be better.
We were there at the hottest time of the year and the AC had a hard time keeping the room cool in the heat of the afternoon. This was our only negative.

The rooms can get very warm (mid March is very very hot in the area). The strong AC definitely helps.

A very beautiful serene location where you truly feel away from it all. The spa services were excellent and so was the food. Verified reviewThe place is beautiful and the staff is really responsive and helpful. We got massages and got a taxi to take us to the airport (which is pretty pricey), and they helped us out with that. They also drive you into town a few times a day which is helpful.
The road to the property is hard to get to unless you have a truck. We had an uber that stopped and wouldn't go any further on the road. They take you to town a few times a day, but if there are other guests they take multiple trips so you will have to wait for your turn into town so it can take more time. We also had ants in our room and the wifi didn't work for the first day.

Regarding the wifi situation, while it’s true that at 6:30 pm there was no wifi in your room due to a repeater breakdown, we tried our best to solve the situation and the next morning, when the first technician was available, the wifi service was restored. In the meantime, you had wifi on the common areas at anytime. You also mentioned the presence of ants in your room. Our hotel is in the middle of the jungle, so it seems pretty obvious that, if you leave any food outside the refrigerator, ants and other insects are definitely coming. Nature is what it is! We don’t really understand the complain about our shuttle service to Tamarindo downtown. We offer this service for free to our guests, and, as you were explained upon your arrival, it works under demand and it is also first come, first serve. For this reason, if other guests are listed before you, we’re driving them in first place. We think this is very reasonable and easy to understand. Finally, although we are fully aware that the road is bumpy, you don’t need a truck to get to Pacific Kalokairi. As you saw, our guests get there in their rental cars, as well as Tamarindo taxis and the airport shuttle. However, you preferred to take an Uber because it was $2 cheaper than a regular taxi. As we also explained, Uber service in Tamarindo is not very reliable and we even offer to call you any of our trusted taxi drivers, but still, you chose Uber. We don’t think we can take the blame on this one. Thanks for taking your time to write a review, and we hope you enjoyed your trip and stay despite all those flaws you mentioned!

Verified reviewThe boutique hotel architecture was modern and casual. The staff was helpful and fun. The pool was clean and fresh, with a great ocean view and a diversity of birds around. The food was simple but had good quality and taste. The beach towels were great to have as the aloe vera sunburn lotion.
the hotel is in progress. It needs a restaurant which is under construction. It wasn't easy to enter the hotel because it was on a steep hill, and we did not have a gate opener. So every time, we had to stop the car, ring the bell, wait for it to open, go down the hill, and get in. The jacuzzi needed to be turned on for 30 minutes before it had hot water. It also had a pool of cold water around, but it was stagnant and had dead bugs. The room balcony was nice, but the wood chairs were not the most comfortable and easy to put in and out.

Verified reviewThis was an amazing hotel with fantastic staff. Virginia, Sylvia and Maria pampered us and it was so relaxing. The room was very comfortable and perfect. When we were stressed about one of our flights being disrupted, Virginia and Sylvia helped us to arrange transport to the airport and figure out our new itinerary. We also have to mention Charlie the dog, such a friendly guy! We will not forget their kindness and we won’t hesitate to stay next time we are in Costa Rica. This hotel epitomized Pura Vida 😊

Verified reviewThe housekeeping was over and beyond excellent! The customer service from Sylvia and Virginia was top notch. They helped coordinate our transportation to the airport, made reservations for us for dinner and provided excellent recommendations. The resort is very simple but so relaxing. Everything was so clean and well kept. The property had a very attentive security guard which was a nice touch.
It is at the top of a very steep hill that is scary to drive up. It is not walkable to anywhere. I wish the spa was open later than 8 pm.

Verified reviewhospitality, hospitality, hospitality.... The owner runs the place and Maria (sorry, I hope it is your name) was really friendly and have such a big smile. I have diet restriction due to me being diabetes so I coudn't eat some of the tropical fruits they offer at the breakfast. She asked me what fruit is OK for diabetetes so I told her I can eat strawberries. Next morning she served strawberries. How thoughful! The hotel is modern and very clean. There are only 6 units I think so the entire area was quiet and peaceful. We really enjoyed our stay at this place.
The hotel is in out of nowhere. We had to drive dirt road for about 8 minutes to get to this hotel and it was sun down so pitch black out there. We were little concerned whether we were going the right way because there is nothing there on the road. So be aware that you need to travel some dirt road and it is better to get there before sun down.

Verified reviewThe rooms are lovely; we took a jungle view and we were very happy about it (it really feels like a little jungle lodge!) The hotel is very small (6 rooms I think?) so it’s very quiet & peaceful, which we really enjoyed The pool is nice (but small) with a distant ocean view. The hotel is closed to Tamarindo which is a nice touristic town (very touristic actually; but the benefit for us was that it has some great restaurants)
The road to get to the hotel is very tricky… make sure you have an SUV… The breakfast was basic for that price.

Yes the roads in Costa Rica are not really good for this reason in your booking reservation you can read that if you are going to rent a car we recommend a SUV but also all the taxis come to the hotel without problems 😉 And about breakfast, a basic breakfast here in Costa Rica will be just a coffee, a toast and an orange juice but here you can order between more than 8 different things (cooked at the moment) + coffee, tea, orange juice, fresh fruits, toasts… so maybe depends on the culture or if you prefer a buffet. Verified reviewThe staff was very nice and helpful. Great suggestions on where to eat and what is going on that evening. I had an ocean view and was a corner unit. The views from the balcony was beautiful. The modern cottage was really nice and tranquil. Outside of my unit, within the trees was a large family of monkeys. About a $10 cab drive into town.
You aren't charged for your accommodation until you arrive. You are given a choice of paying cash for the original amount quoted or credit card where your charged about $100 more. Didn't have cash on me so ended up paying extra. If I would have known this before arriving, I would have gotten cash.
