How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Verified reviewthe place was outstanding. the pool was awesome. the breakfast delicious. and its a great place to see and interact with the monkeys, without needing to go to a park or a reserve. they are everywhere and it's a free show every day. It also has access to an almost private beach.
the parking is a bit cumbersome. they don't have easy parking. you have to park parallel to the street. and it's a very narrow street, so you don't have too much room to maneuver.

Verified reviewBeautiful place, great location and super nice and helpful stuff. Monkeys gang in the balcony in the morning made our day. Beautiful jungle/ocean view. Very good breakfast. Great place for families. Room was big and comfortable, and location is pretty good (about 1.5k from MA centre).
All was great, the beach trail can be a bit challenging especially when getting dark.

Verified reviewStaff were brilliant, pool facilities were good and food at the pool bar and breakfast was nice. Rooms were a bit rough around the edges in terms of decoration, windows loose in frames etc. Great location for the public beach, just a 5 minute walk.

Walk down the beach was a bit of a walk down a lot of steps. Beach was very rocky when trying to go into the sea so would recommend wet shoes, otherwise was quite painful but otherwise a beautiful sandy beach

Verified reviewThe animals around, was more worth it than going to Manuel Antonio Park, I saw a tucano, a lizard, a sloth, monkeys everywhere… including my varanda ! Cocktails at happy hour 2 for 1. The pool is not heated, but was warm enough, during day and night. Pool and restaurant with a view. Great option of a second pool with no kids. Beautiful architecture, great food at breakfast (pancakes and eggs from scratch) and dinner. The hotel is on a hill, but a golf car took us up any time needed.
The color of my sink lol (red). But the installation was great, hot shower, that was just really a detail.

The rooms are old and a bit crusty. Our first room had windows that didn’t close completely. No screens so lots of opportunity for critters to get in. They did change us to a new room the following night but the first night was a drag.

Verified reviewOn bookings.com, we paid for three nights for 3 adults and 1 child, who is 14 years old. Shana by the beach made us pay additionally for the child. According to them, child is under 12 years of age.

Verified reviewThe location was good, and the staff were nice, but our room was in the basement of dark halls, and all the air-conditioning engine was placed outside of our room, making it hotter and humid. The room was nice and clean.
There was an on going very loud noise as they were fixing or repairing the roofs. The room was in 2 floors down the basement. For the price we paid it wasn't worth it.
Our location, friendly staff, and clean, well-maintained rooms are consistently praised, and we’re pleased those aspects stood out during your stay. As for room placement, our hotel offers a variety of room types across different levels of the property—each with its own unique setting. Many guests actually prefer the lower-level rooms for their proximity to the jungle and natural surroundings. Verified reviewWe had a room with a great balcony and could see monkeys every day. Breakfast was delicious and it starts at 6 am. We enjoyed the beach and did not even go to different places.
We had outdated room and bathroom. Bathroom does not have a single hook to hang clothes and towels. It would be nice to have full size mirror in a room. Our kitchen was really poorly equipped (I don't mean fancy kitchen appliances, just simple stuff)

Verified reviewOur room was pretty big. The hotel is close to a small beach. We could see the monkeys every day at our balcony. The breakfast was very good and the staff at the restaurant was amazing.
For the price of the stay housekeeping was just not good. We had to call in every day for fresh towels, clean glasses and toilet paper. I get that every hotel wants to be environmentally friendly but towels just don’t dry in that climate. The bathroom was big but not many places to hang clothes or towels.
