Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesThere was nothing unlikeable, truly.
This place was magical! The owner and staff were super kind and treated us like family. Everyone was so wonderful and always greeted you with a smile. The food and drinks at Uma were out of this world delicious. Compared to the rest of the beachfronts in Santa Teresa, the atmosphere was top-notch. I felt lucky to call this hidden gem home for seven days on holiday. I highly recommend it. 10 +++ stars!

United StatesSmall thing that wouldn't stop us from returning - there were times when the music went a little loud and late at night at the resort next door (Banana Beach). Playa Cielo has music at their restaurant, but it was generally lower volume and ended earlier, not a problem for us. And honestly, the Sunset Party on Sunday was amazing! There were plenty of guests enjoying the music on any given night and I think many guests would see this as a fun option. If you like to go to bed earlier, take earplugs and play "white noise' at night - that completely solved the issue for us!
Our room was beautiful and very comfortable. We especially loved the patio with sofa and table...a great spot to lounge in the shade while still enjoying the beauty of nature. It felt very safe and private while still being part of a boutique resort with great amenities. The restaurant was amazing...great variety of food selections right on the beach, to enjoy sunsets! All of the staff was very kind and helpful. There was a pool and the grounds were lovely. For feeling like you were in the middle of nature, it was still extremely close to walk to shops and cafes.

ArgentinaAs we went in October (low season) there were a couple of things that maybe weren’t working as they should but nothing stopped us from having a great time.
It was perfectly located, with access to the beach. The staff was great and super nice!

SwitzerlandLocation was great, Hadar was amazing at helping us with whatever needs we had. Sometimes the internet didn't work, we guess it might have to do with the power outages that Santa Teresa sometimes experiences. The room was cleaned thoroughly every day. We thought the pictures on booking didn't do the location justice - it was way nicer than advertised!

United StatesMy family noticed there was no hot water in the shower. I didn't notice and didn't miss it because the water was a comfortable temperature after a hot day in the sun. Like some other reviews stated, the mattresses could be a little softer (though my husband prefers a firm bed and was quite happy with it). Lastly, the couch in the living area had lots of stains on it, which I'll hope was just wet-butt salt water stains... but I could have done without seeing those and wondering what they were. A slip cover would help.
Beautiful property on an excellent part of the beach. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The food at the associated restaurant was fantastic. I loved waking up and walking out to the beach with my little one each morning to play in the tide pools a few minutes walk down the beach. Then, we'd walk across the main street with the rest of my family to grab breakfast at Vermu before returning to Playa Cielo for some pool time. The pool was PERFECT for us to enjoy with our kids. Half of the pool is wading depth, which our 3 year old loved running around in. We stayed in the Family Villa and found it perfectly spacious. I so appreciate having a kitchenette. The bathrooms were such a treat. In the evenings, we ate at Uma, the delicious restaurant on the property. The night of arrival, we ordered in. The second night, we ate on the beach. The menu was diverse enough to keep it really interesting each meal! The bar had everything we needed. And the SUNSET! There couldn't be a better spot in town to catch that sunset. We will definitely spend more time here next visit.

United KingdomNo reception, no check in or check out, no times when someone was available, so there was no “face” to the hotel other than Dean who was great and helped us a few times. This meant there was no access to local information, no point of reference other than a WhatsApp number which had slow responses.
beautiful location, beach was fabulous. Room was very comfortable, big bed and plenty of pillows, towels etc. loved the outdoor shower. Dean who worked in the restaurant was very helpful and friendly.

United Statescan’t think of things we didn’t like!
loved the location, the quieter part of the strip for sure so we actually slept! Close walk to all the good places to eat and hang out. The beach is right there! surfing to both sides but not directly in front so there is room to swim a bit too!! the pool and beds by pool were great. The water is warm! air conditioning worked awesome, beds were comfortable! Vibe was cute!

United StatesThe only caution to those who come to this hotel is that the music from the bar is significant, even from your villa. The bar clearly attracts a younger crowd so just be aware that the music started just after noon and went until around 10:00. This did make it more difficult to talk at the restaurant or if you want to go to sleep early and expect to hear only the surf, but not a big deal if all you want to do is watch the sunset at the bar and stay up later.
This is an exceptional hotel and the villas were very enjoyable and as advertised. The proximity to the beach is a big attraction. Very comfortable the entire stay. Staff were exceptional at meeting every request. The food at Uma the restaurant was very good and very attentive service.

GermanyBefore check-in they confirmed that we had booked the sea view villa. Upon check-in they said there was a problem with the hot water for which reason they gave us another villa. Turned out that the sea view villa we booked was occupied. We felt that they weren’t very honest with us. Fortunately the next day we were able to change rooms and get into the sea view villa. Unfortunately there is a big construction site next door for which reason it was quite noisy during the day. Also in the hotel they did some noisy maintenance of the villa next door.
The villas are very nice, the bed was very comfortable and the open air shower a great experience. They organized a blender for us which was very kind and highly appreciated. Roy was very friendly and always available when we had questions. Above that he gave us a voucher for the hotel restaurant to compensate for the inconvenience that we had to experience due to bad management decisions. The property is very beautiful, well maintained and directly at the beautiful beach of Santa Teresa. In front of the hotel there are many options to eat and shop.

United KingdomThe communication wasn't great. There was a black out at 1.30am which lasted for over 8 hours so the food we had in our fridge went off. We were messaging the reception from 6.30 am and despite chasing for an update we did hear back for almost another 5 hours. I appreciate that blackouts can be out of ones hands but keeping your guests updated is within ones control and seeing how it's only 4 rooms at the whole accommodation, definitely manageable. Our dirty towels were removed but not replaced. Despite messaging about more towels we had to go down on the beach and find the receptionist who was hanging out with friends and chase up. It then took another 30 min before our towels arrived We were told that our water bottles would be replaced each day but we never received any more fresh water. The restaurant serves really good food but it's expensive and the cocktails were the most expensive we had during our whole 3 week stay in Costa Rica. Other guests have mentioned receiving a fruit bowl each morning but they might have stopped it since we didn't receive any fruit during our 3 night stay. I would expect better for $220 per night and while the grounds are gorgeous, I wouldn't stay again
The hotel itself is gorgeous and the room was really big and comfortable. Our favourite detail was the outdoor shower and terrace
