Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesThe last 1.5 miles to get to the lodge is gravel. You don’t need a 4x4, but will have to go slow and carefully to avoid low spots.
This was an excellent stay at Pochote lodge. We originally were going to stay only one night, but liked the location and quietness that we extended our stay. Francisco provides great information on surrounding options to do and places to eat. They don’t have an onsite restaurant, but do have a refrigerator and common kitchen to use. They do provide breakfast options for $9 USD which we did every day and it was great. The cabin we stayed at was comfortable, big enough and comfortable bed. WiFi signal is strong as well. It was great to just sit the with not many people around and just to the birds chirp in the jungle. Highly recommend staying here if you want to get away from the crowds and relax a bit.

United StatesThe weather was wet so going outdoors was not always convenient. It is close to Rincon de la viejes park, but in a relative Costa Rica way. The roads are gravel and full of gaping holes so a few miles takes a long time. It is important to pack groceries bc there is nothing in the area. The kitchen is essential for making a meal. Bring all your own supplies, there is not much on site to augment what you forgot.
The host, Francisco is charming and the facilities are unique. The outdoor kitchen and dining is pleasant. We saw lots of wildlife and volcanic features in the park and enjoyed the hot springs in Rio negro. The lodge is rustic, adequate, economical. There are few choices in this neighborhood so it is nice to find a welcoming lodge.

DenmarkWhen you book a 3 persons room it says that it has its own kitchen. This is not true. You share a kitchen with another room and the fridge is at another area than the kitchen. We only found out about the shared kitchen because we contacted the host through whatsapp before booking.
Good location, the natural pool, hot water in the shower

BulgariaThe road was in a really bad condition (we came from Tenorio national park). The road from Liberia is way better, but in general I would recommend coming to the national park with an SUV or similar (if possible).
We had a lovely stay here! Excellent conditions, impeccably clean and still in the middle of nature. The breakfast was typical Costa Rican breakfast and very delicious. The owner is very friendly, helpful and assisted us with every need we had. The location is around 30 mins away from Rincon national park. We also saw a lot of wildlife on the property. Definitely recommend if you want to be in the nature and visit the national park!

The breakfast was so amazing!! Totally worth getting if you have the time. The owner is really nice and funny. The bathroom was very clean and welcoming

United KingdomUnfortunately, the access route from Bagaces has a lot of potholes. Iwould advice not to take this. It is better to take the road from Liberia. That too has gravel roads in sections and a fair few potholes.
Beautiful location. Perfect place to relax. Owner very friendly and decent facilities for cooking as location a bit remote, with only 1 restaurant 2km away that required reservation. We were advised ahead of arrival to bring groceries. Room very comfortable and cool climate due to breeze in the area.

United StatesRoads into and out of the property were pretty rough. High winds made for a noisy night. No nearby stores and only one nearby restaurant. Very remote!

United StatesThe Lodge is in a special setting, more spectacular than the photos show. The hosts are incredibly welcoming and treated us with such kindness. They gave us excellent advice and shared their expert knowledge about the flora and fauna. The accommodations are basic but clean and comfortable. The little river fed pool is a treat after a hot day of sightseeing. The grounds are beautiful and the birding is stunning. Toucans and parrots before breakfast…such a treat! I would return happily if in the area.

United KingdomFacilities such as a shop a little closer and a fridge in the room rather than communal fridge. Perhaps another blanket on the bed as it was a little chilly at night with the wind and the rain while we were there
This place was a little oasis in nature. It was much better than the photos suggested. Yes it’s rustic but that’s part of its charm. The bed was comfortable ( maybe the best we had on our whole trip) We loved listening to the rain in the night and enjoying the sunshine in the colourful garden and chickens running around. The host was super welcoming despite the language barrier and they make lovely Tipico breakfasts at an extra cost. Evening meals ( if you don’t want to self cater) can be got at the Rancinto Hotel 5 mins down the road where the accommodation was much more expensive. It was a great location if you want to enjoy the Rincon national park, the Rio Negra hot springs and waterfalls etc We would go again for sure. Please note it’s cash only ( or they let us do PayPal but you have to pay the commission on top) There was a fab in the room but we didn’t need it as it was cool in the evenings being high up in the mountains.

United StatesIt was a little buggy. There were some small ants in the room that didn't bother me much, but may bother others, and you have to understand you ARE in the jungle.
It was off the beaten path. It was authentic and far from touristy, rooms were clean, and breakfast was good. Francisco is the nicest man, and Veronica is also very friendly. There are clear signs to location. The road coming in is rough but doable. Rent a truck. Perfect for solo travelers and adult groups. Also, full access to a sharrd kitchen with a refrigerator.

The owner was very helpful in providing us with info to make the best of our holiday. He suggested that we go to Santa Maria sector where we had an amazing time swimming in a waterfall and soaking in natural hot springs in the national park. He served us a wonderful breakfast the next morning for a small fee of $8. The property was very secluded in the jungle- a great start to our vacation!

Great customer service! Fransisco was very friendly, likeable and helpful. He helped people feel comfortable enough to practice their Spanish. The breakfast was great! The eggs from chickens that he raises and the property was unique and very beautiful. I was traveling alone and felt safe and the price was very good. There is a kitchen to bring your own food or you can eat dinner at RinconIto lodge, less than 10 minutes away.

Switzerland- Our room was very cramped and very spartanly furnished. We therefore found that the price was a bit too high - The bathroom could not be closed completely
- We were very warmly welcomed and provided with lots of information about the area - The garden and surrounding areas are really nice and well taken care of - It was a great experience to stay in a lodge that is quite remote (4x4 helps a lot) - Hot shower
