How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThis place is a total Jim nestled in the mountains near the Rio Celeste national Park! Their property also has access to a trail where you can swim in the rio Celeste. The food is really good there and a nice added bonus was a late evening frog tour through their jungle garden after dinner
I liked everything

Verified reviewThe food was lovely. The staff were lovely. The parrot was lovely. The views were lovely and the swimming was….you guessed it…..awesome. Would definitely recommend it if you are looking for an authentic Tico experience close to the magical river.

Verified reviewThe staff working at the hotel was super nice! Francini the talking parrot was a great welcome too. Our room was spacious for 5 but did not have air conditioning for those that like it extra cold. It was cool with the windows open and 2 fans. We ate dinner at the hotel which was tranquilo and delicious. Meals were $7-10 USD which are the cheapest we've found in Costa Rica. We enjoyed a peaceful hike down the hotel road with several horses and lots of birds to watch. The hike to the river on their private land across the street was phenomenal. My 5 and 8 year old loved it, it was a little difficult for my non-athletic mom with lots of steep natural stairs down. I would absolutely recommend this place and come back.
I think hot water and AC were the main amenities we missed but would still stay again.

Verified reviewWe had a great stay. The hosts were very welcoming. The cabin was cute and cozy. We had dinner at the restaurant and it was delicious. The highlight of our stay was taking the hike down to the river to swim. Worth every dollar. Swam in the rio celeste, most beautiful blue colour.

Verified reviewRemote, relaxing, and a lovely breakfast. Cabins are adequate and fair for the price paid. They are functional more than luxury. The staff/owners were friendly and very helpful. A short drive to town bars, restaurants, activities, etc..

Verified reviewBeautiful nature surrounding you, nice garden. Talking parrot was a plus. Cheap and efficient. Beds were comfortable and the fans kept us cool and comfortable at night.
Had no idea how to turn on hot water in my unit. They do not speak any English so prepare yourself to use google translator. I had no issue with this but I think they were slightly irritated.

Verified reviewGreat food on location. The staff are so wonderful - one of the ladies knocked on our door our first evening to see if we'd like to take a walk around to property to look for "ranas" (frogs). The property is lovely, peaceful, quiet, and the dog and parrot were so funny and sweet. Location could not have been better. The semi-private swimming hole was the highlight of our entire trip to CR. Entrance to the national park is a quick 3 min ride away

The electricity went out in the middle of the night, which is not unexpected due to location.

Verified reviewThe room was clean and the restaurant on site was great - we ate breakfast and dinner at the restaurant. The host, Geraldina, was friendly and easy to communicate with. We paid $4/pp to hike to the semi-private swimming hole on the Celeste river and it was magical. Would definitely recommend!

Verified reviewLocation is good. Food in a restaurant was good. The talking green macaw was a huge highlight.
Room was very tight and there isn't much to do in the room. We had two kids and we were glad we were only there for the night. The lighting is really bad in the room. Host wasn't very friendly so I was surprised to read about how great the hosts were because we didn't feel it.

Verified reviewThe hostess with her family were super friendly and even told us where to go in the vicinity of the cabins. Even the meals in the restaurant located on grounds were phenomenal.
The Wifi connection was quite poor in the cabins. It was a little bit hard to find the place because the booking location was pinpointed at a slightly different location.

Verified reviewThe milkshakes there are the best I've had in all of Costa Rica! I will definitely take that with me to the grave. I've spent so much money here on all the milkshakes and the smoothies. The fruits here are definitely top tier. The room itself was also very comfortable. We were upgraded to a bigger room, and the beds were super comfy - the property also provides huge warm blankets as well that kept us nice and warm up in the mountains. There were so many birds around here too. Never a dull moment with them!
The wifi was pretty much unusable if you weren't in the restaurant or in one of the rooms closest to it. I was on cellular pretty much the whole time. The staff here also don't speak English, so definitely get your Google Translate ready for this place!

Verified reviewVery good restaurant, and others nearby.
Building work nearby. Also, being charged $5 to swim in the river. I'd expected it to be free, and also much closer than it was (there is about a 2km hike each way - mostly uphill on the way back).
