Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesWhat a unique and unforgettable experience! This farm is a gem, gorgeous place to stay, delicious food made fully from farm ingredients, wonderful staff, and such an educational experience for both kids and parents. Highly recommend the farm tour to learn about their permaculture practices. If only every farm was like this.

United StatesI would avoid bringing older family members if they are at risk of falling due to the large size of this property and the uneven hilly terrain. The pool was not heated.
Rustic luxury with interesting emphasis on sustainability with a terrific tour of their working farm which primarily feeds the guests and staff- dairy cows, chickens and pigs and much more. The food was good, not particularly geared towards vegetarian, but enough to eat.

CanadaMany of the staff are temporary volunteers and they're very friendly, but not always very knowledgeable.
Very interesting farm tour. Delicious food made mainly from products from the farm. It's sustainable but still provides a good level of comfort for the guests. The pools are very clean. Overall, it's an absolutely amazing experience that is well worth the cost for anyone interested in sustainability, farming or self-sufficiency.

United StatesNothing! It truly exceeded expectations on all levels.
This was one of the best vacations I’ve ever had and my favorite place I have visited in Costa Rica. It was super family-friendly and also a relaxing, restorative atmosphere. The farm fresh food was outstanding and the staff were incredibly kind, friendly, helpful, and welcoming. I have lived in Costa Rica for two years and this is one of my favorite places we visited and one of my favorite vacations ever! I was looking for somewhere that was kid-friendly and included three meals a day, ideally from the land. This place was everything I hoped for and more. I was looking for somewhere to decompress and regenerate after a stressful academic year, and I felt my nervous system begin to reset almost as soon as we arrived. The calming atmosphere and the healing power of nature is palpable. It has been a perfectly relaxing, fun, enjoyable, nourishing stay. The staff are super friendly and so helpful, and truly go above and beyond to make your stay exceptional and memorable. The location is remote but accessible (we came by shuttle; just the last short stretch is not paved). The food was exceptional and most of it grown on site. The location is absolutely stunning. There’s yoga twice a day and three amazing meals in a beautiful spot- does life get any better? I’m not sure if it does get any better than Rancho Margot 🙂 In terms of family friendliness, it doesn’t get much better. There is a playground next to the comedor and whoever thought of this was clearly a genius (and a parent 😆). There are three ranch dogs who couldn’t be sweeter and more cuddly- Rex, Ginger, and Koda- providing lots of entertainment and friendship. The heated natural pool, while varies slightly in temperature, is in the range of not too hot for kids and not too cold for adults. There’s so much to do, from fishing to horseback riding to kayaking and hiking. The ranch tour was a big hit and incredibly informative.

Loved the approach to everything they do at this place - very careful approach to minimising environmental impact for guests and staff Food sourced from own property or nearby Land and animals seemed well cared for - went on onsite farm tour Interesting wildlife tours on site Son loved the chocolate making workshop - saw all stages from cacao trees growing, how beans harvested and transformed into chocolate Helpful, friendly staff Food choices could be slightly more varied day to day, but always tasty, healthy options, and plenty to eat

CanadaFor the cost the food was not great - more like basic camp food. I was excited for farm to table creative dishes - it was very plain and basic and incredibly repetitive. My friend was vegan and despite being assured they serve vegan she had very little Choice for food. They make pizza daily but never made a vegan option despite it being on our booking. It was very disappointing. We came from a vegetarian yoga retreat near tamarindo and the food there was incredible - this is really like kids camp level food - almost The same every day and not good. We hiked to a nearby village for lunch a few Times and the 3 hr hike there and back was worth it to have delicious food :)
It’s beautiful and everyone is so friendly - the property has so much and it’s remote and gorgeous and the sustainable work is impressive

AustraliaThere could be more traditional dishes to eat as most dishes are pasta / pizza / salad. Good to know: The road to get there is a dirt road.
The place is very well integrated in the nature and environment, very beautiful and relaxing. Many activities included in the price which kept us busy for 2 days (farm tour, yoga, pools). Very professional, friendly and polite staff made our stay even more enjoyable. Very good eat-as-you-want meals. We were picked up at the bus stop in La Fortuna which was very helpful.

United KingdomWe were unlucky with the weather but it didn't seem to matter, we had a wonderful experience all the same.
Juan has created an inspirational, sustainable and self sufficient eco lodge and farm at RM. He attracts both staff and customers of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds who subscribe to the ethos. It is a tranquil retreat with plenty to do if you want to be active. We went kayaking fishing and wild swimming. Others went hiking, horse riding; enjoyed yoga at dawn, a massage in a magical tented tree house by the river, local hot springs. I particularly recommend a fascinating tour of the farm and explanation as to how it all works in symbiosis. The animals are so well cared for here. We will miss the humming birds, oreoles, oripendilas, swifts, cotis and squirrel who visited our cabin environs.

SwitzerlandIt's a farm and not a hotel, tho the prices for the stay feels like a four star hotel and a bit overpriced. With high prices comes high expectations, which inherently a farm cannot deliver.
The philosophy of the ranch is self-sufficiency and it can be seen in each of their activities. To witness this reality was unique and inspiring.
