Playa Matapalo is one of my favorite places and we were excited to stay at Raya. It is absolutely beautiful and well appointed. It has everything you need for a relaxing vacation in Costa Rica. Our hosts Phillipp and Kamila went above and beyond to make sure our stay was incredible. From homemade breakfast every morning to suggestions for day trips and even securing reservations at a nearby restaurant...they are all about their guests. We will definitely book with them again.

The location was good and everything looked clean. The owners were lovely and breakfast was the highlight.

The bed was very firm, so we found it uncomfortable. The shared coffee station was a good idea, in theory, but the coffee maker was located outside and looked dirty so I didn’t use it.

Friendly hosts that cooked a great a great breakfast. It was very quiet yet close to the ocean.

Well-appointed rooms, spacious and comfortable with great air conditioning. Easy walk to the beach which was clean and beautiful. Hosts were well informed about the area and made several great suggestions about places to go and restaurants nearby. Breakfast was delicious and freshly prepared daily, served on the patio of our room. We were able to make coffee at a communal station. Phillip was especially knowledgeable about the local wildlife we should see.

Excellent stay in Raya appartments - very clean and confortable place. Perfect to travel around and close to a small supermarket as well. The owners were of very good advice to find a surf school and eat around. They also advised to have a hike in Hacienda Baru nearby which proved way more quiet than Manuel Antonio.

You need a car there if you want to move around- that's it.

Our stay at this beautiful accommodation in Matapalo was simply fantastic! From the very first moment, we felt welcome, and the hosts were super friendly and helpful. The accommodation is just a short walk from the beach. The surrounding area and the village itself are lovely and perfect for relaxation – at the same time, we were able to spot some amazing wildlife, such as macaws and sloths. It is conveniently located between Manuel Antonio and Uvita, making it easy to explore both areas. The rooms are spacious, elegantly furnished, and of the highest quality. Everything was impeccably clean and well-maintained. The hosts provided excellent tips for excursions and activities in the area. You can truly feel that they run this place with passion and dedication! Breakfast is freshly prepared every morning based on a selection of options, accompanied by a small bowl of fruit and freshly brewed coffee. We can 100% recommend this accommodation! If you are looking for a relaxing, peaceful, and nature-inspired stay, this is the perfect place for you. We would definitely come back!

Philip & Kamilla were the perfect hosts. Raya is beautiful, peaceful and lovely place to stay away from the crowds. The beach is just a short walk and is magnificent. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Raya is a wonderful place to slow down and relax. The rooms are spacious and well designed. The outdoor patios, garden and pool are an invitation to kick back and relax.

Everything was good, from the room setup to the breakfast everything was excellent. We felt safe and comfortable and taken care of during our stay. I would recommend this place to anyone in the area.

Very comfortable and big bed, great shower, delicious breakfast, very clean and exceptionally welcoming hosts. They have a lot of info on activities in the area and the local flora and fauna. But most of all they make you feel at home and safe. I would definitely come again to spend some relaxing days at Raya in Matapalo! The location is just perfect, everything in walking distance 7‘ to the beach, 5‘ to famous and awesome Matapalo Supper Club Restaurant, another restaurant and the supermarket. 20‘ to the bus stop. And on the other side of the road: Angelo who takes you on trips with his lovely horses.

Beautiful and clean! Wildlife by the beach

Raya is a relatively new place run by its enthusiastic owners, who were very keen to try to ensure that you had a good stay. We were here for three nights and the other seven apartments were mostly occupied at the same time. The design of the building was unsual - one long single storey with dividers between each apartment which allowed for private patios for each. As well as a table and chairs, each apartment had a couple of unusual, comfortable, hanging hammock chairs, behind which was a pretty garden area. The bathroom, air conditioning and wifi all worked well and overall the bedrooms were very comfortable and quiet. A decent breakfast was provided for you each morning, right outside your apartment which was very convenient.

The operation is still bedding in, but I think it will only get better. There is an acknowledged need for more information on local attractions to be available. It is in a nice spot, about eight minutes walk from the beach and a resataurant, but you would need a car to get to any other places. Secure parking was available, but not easy - a rather narrow strip alongside the building which would be very difficult to manouevre if there was more than two or three cars.

It was clean. Easy place to get to for a quick overnight. Great recommendation for dinner. Breakfast was served on time and made to order.

Everything was impeccably clean. The room is spacious and cozy. The bed is a king size and very comfy. The breakfast is served at your door - in previous day you just need to inform your breakfast options and time of delivery. The hotel is a brand new building and everything is carefully run by the owners themselves. Extra tip: In front of the hotel there's a stable with horses available for a ride. We SUPER recommend this ride, as we had a lot of fun. It lasted 2 hours and on top of the ride itself, in nature and at the beach watching the sunset, our guide (Angel) was very friendly. He shared his knowledge about the local flora and spotted animals, such as monkeys and sloths. We even stopped for a coconut water drink, that he opened for us, right from the tree. It is really worth it! Comparable to other rides we've seen in Costa Rica, it was also very affordable.

Nothing that we didn't like, everything was perfect and very clean.

The owners were so lovely, giving us great recommendations and tips for where to go and what to do. Very helpful overall to make our stay comfortable. Great breakfast and delicious waffles. It's a new hotel, nicely designed, and you can tell they take extra care to start things right.

Camila and Philipp are a nice surfer couple and great hosts! Clean and nice rooms with cute hanging chairs in front of your room to read and chill. Nice breakfast too. Walking distance to a wonderful beach. Philipp even helped me spot a few sloths on the beach!

Not a lot of common space but we didn't mind it

Host and hostess went above and beyond to make sure are vist was great. We had to leave early one morning for a tour and they got up early and made breakfast for us

Owners were great, very approachable gave advice on things to do and where to go and also a location to see sloths. Room is big and very clean, with comfortable bed and nice hot shower. Owner makes great breakfast especially nice big waffles, so bring a big jar of Nutella. There is a small outside seating area for each room where you can eat or sit and chill. Very close to a great restaurant and to a nice beach.

Wifi didn't work in the room, had to go in the seating area outside.
