Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsThe facilities were a bit old and dirty. The gym area looked dirty. The hallway smelled bad at times coming from the dorms, although I stayed in a private room.

SwitzerlandThe bigger room I stayed first was super full with beds, so not very quiet. Staff could be a bit more welcoming. They add a hefty fee on top if you'd like to pay with card, so be prepared to bring cash.
The smaller room was nice and good to sleep. Kitchen has many stoves, good to cook. Nice location a bit outside at a river. Good wifi.

Costa RicaLoved this hostel! Very clean room and bed, nice outdoor space to socialise, play table tennis or chill in a hammock. Large lockers were very useful, the staff let me keep my bags in there between checkout and leaving for my next location which was much appreciated! Friendly staff and great location - about ten minutes' walk from the bustle of the main town.

SpainBed had a super old mattrass, and the bunk beds were making a lot of noise, so I didn't particularly sleep well. There is nothing else than beds in the dorms, no light, no table. Wasn't a very social hostel, compared to others I have been in Costa Rica.
Beautiful location, saw a sloth chilling, gym and kitchen are a plus. Walk into town is easy.

NetherlandsThere was mould on the ceiling. The staff was a bit curt with me and not very helpful. Two guys, who seemed to be living at the hostel for half of the week, were waking up the entire dorm every single night around 4. The staff didn't want to do anything about it.
Great value for your money. I really liked the location. It's a bit further from town but therefore really quiet. The AC functioned well.

United KingdomWalk of 10-15 mins to the good supermarket and major town spots. Didn't see it as particularly social hostel, but everyone was nice.
4-beds dorm is spacious with the lockers outside. Very good kitchen with everything you need to cook your daily meals, lovely sitting area neat to the river, but there were noisy works during the day. 3 toilets and 3 showers for everyone.

Slovakia2 of 3 showers were cold but it wasn't a big deal since it was always hot outside. The receptionist didn't tell me about Whatsapp group so I joined a bit too late, as did others I talked to.
Amazing social hostel with beautiful common area. There are also tables with sockets for when you want to work. The beds have curtains so you are not too bothered when you want to sleep and others are awake, as well as sockets. Wonderful garden with free gym. Also free coffee in the morning. Whatsapp group that helps socialize and plan trips together. The location is not in the city center, but remember you'll likely use car or Uber to move around, so it doesn't really matter. There still is a grocery store and a couple of restaurants in the area. The center is just 10 minutes walking distance.

NetherlandsThey try to scam you by claiming credit card payments have a 13% surcharge. 13% is the sales tax amount in Costa Rica, but Booking.com already includes sales tax in the price. Credit card surcharges above around 2.5% are illegal in Costa Rica. When we raised this with management, they tried to claim it was the Booking.com commission, then finally said it was just a credit card surcharge. They argued for hours despite us showing them that such surcharges were illegal. Additionally, we booked this for the car parking. However, when we were arrived the car park was taken up by road workers with big trucks who were staying there. When we raised this with reception and management we were told that parking was limited, however this was never indicated and you know that if you accept a booking for road workers with trucks that your parking will be full. A simple acknowledgment would have sufficed, but management was rude and argumentative.
The kitchen is very well equipped. The wifi worked well. Nice and spacious common areas.

United StatesNot a great communal area and not very social - people just stick to themselves probably as a result There’s a kind of smoking station right next to the gym which was unfortunate because I didn’t want to breathe in smoke as I was working out Basketball hoop seemed not used for a long time / no net Not close to center of town - 10 min walk to the edge of town
Had a workout area outside Staff was helpful setting up tours Decent area up front to wait for tours and do work

Very good price-quality ratio in my opinion. Everything was nice; comfortable beds and enough room. Nice public yard area with hammocks etc. Also had kitchen and place to hang out clothes et. Also nice that it had a small gym. Was a good place to stay if travel with budget. Enjoyed my stay in here.

AustraliaThe only negative I have is the beds creak a lot on movement so if you have someone sleeping above you (or below) and they toss and turn a lot during the night you may need ear plugs or consider a private room instead of a dorm.
I really enjoyed my stay at Rio Danta, the location is great it is really close to town (5-10 minute walk, depending on your pace) but a quiet place next to a river where sloths are sighted (I was lucky to have a sloth family there during my stay) the wifi is excellent, I work remotely and never had an issue the co-working space is outside next to the river and it’s so calming to work in this space. The staff are lovely, they are friendly and always cleaning the property. The property is an indoor / outdoor style hostel but I was pleasantly surprised by how clean the property is all the time. The bed is comfortable and you have a little personal fan which was perfect, it’s a simple hostel with a good sized kitchen and has everything you need, it’s a much more laid back quiet hostel which was nice. They have a gorgeous dog named Nala at the property she is so sweet and two cats that are always up to mischief but it is a really nice vibe with the furry friends. Thank you for such a beautiful stay :)

CanadaThe staff wasnt really friendly. A girl in particular. When i arrived she just showed me my room. I asked for a bed more in the back of the room, she said no and left. She didnt show me the place like she did with other customers. I think she doesnt speak good english so she will be more helpful with spanish people..
This place is so clean. Ive been staying there for 5 nights and ive seen them clean the place at least 2 times a day. The kitchen is great with everything you need. I really liked the curtains for the bed, bring more privacy. The air conditionning in the room was also nice. I liked the location of the hostel even if it was 10 minutes of walk from the center, it made the place a more quiet and relax place to stay. I liked that there was a bunch of different places to either relax or work (different workspace and hammock) There was also a little gym to workout. Locker to put your things in a safe place if needed My bed was a single bed but big enough, very confortable bed
