How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Only negative is the location which is quite a distance from any dinning options.

Verified reviewThe view from the property is incredible, and the staff was wonderful. They were incredibly accommodating and helpful when we had to change our plans last minute due to losing my passport. The view of the volcano from the room and the shower are unmatched.
It is a little far from town, but that’s what makes it quiet and quaint!

Verified reviewStaff was friendly and helpful and offered us a room upgrade price we couldn't refuse! The room was absolutely gorgeous and the shower was just as nice. The happy hour downstairs had 2 for 1 drinks, the beach was clean and calm, and the restaurants in the area were great. There are spots of black sand which is cool to see, as well as beautiful birds fishing nearby.
I have zero complaints!

Verified reviewThe lodge we stayed in was beautiful. The two bedrooms were spacious and clean. There were 2 nice bathrooms and a lovely veranda to sit on and take in the sounds of the jungle. Breakfast was just down the hill at the sister resort. It was a good breakfast with decent options. Parking was easy, check-in was quick and easy and the staff were good. It was well located to get into La Fortuna and the many nearby attractions. Falling asleep to the sounds of the jungle was the best part.
There were a few "annoyances" with our stay. Having been on the road for a while, I specifically selected a place with a washer and dryer. They were however broken and we could not use them to clean or to dry things as we wanted (it is a very humid country!). The staff did their best and did a load of washing for us but it was not our expectation given our plans. The safe was also broken and there were limited amenities in the kitchen. Most notably, the lodge we stayed in was right on the edge of a work compound where trucks roll in and out early and late. It was noisy and did not contribute to the sense of being on the "edge" of the jungle. Would we stay again? Maybe in a different lodge further away from the work and parking area.

Verified reviewThe breakfast was great and easy to access by car each morning. We were very pleased to be staying so close to the Mistico Hanging Bridges-we were able to get into the park before the crowds started! The staff Larry, Francisco, and Luis) was exceptional-incredibly helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. Their English was impressive so communication was very easy. I would highly recommend this lodge to anyone looking for a tranquil experience in the rainforest. It was an absolutely wonderful experience!
The noise from the rainforest animals was lovely but also made it difficult to sleep at times. 😉

Verified reviewThe rooms with views have fabulous views - but not all rooms have views, so make sure yours does. Very helpful staff.
A good 30 min drive from La Fortuna

Verified reviewThe location was perfect — just minutes from Místico Park, which made exploring super convenient. The villas themselves were stunning, surrounded by nature with wild animals often passing by, which added to the experience. The staff was also incredibly helpful and welcoming, making our stay even more enjoyable.

Verified reviewThe hotel is clean, the bed is comfy. The view was exceptional. You have everything you need in the room. The shower is with the great view. Great location, walking distance to the Hanging bridges. The breakfast was tasty, hot and various. The breakfast is in another hotel, but if you have a car, it is fast drive. However, you can request a transport if you need. Great service, people at the front desk are polite and welcoming.
Everything was great.

Verified reviewJust didn't have any way to set expectations for the experience of these little cabins on the hillside overlooking Arenal, framed as if you were looking out over the volcano in IMAX. We booked this room as a backup because we needed to extend our stay in Arenal and our existing hotel booking (in a hot springs resort closer to town) couldn't accommodate an extra night. Almost wish we'd spent the entire time here - it was just really great. Super helpful team staffing the front desk, and nice to be able to walk right across the parking lot to Mistico Hanging Bridges.
Maybe an inconvenience to get to the sister hotel every morning for breakfast if you've arrived without your own car.

Limited onsite activities/options and somewhat remote location mean more driving to and from.

Verified reviewFriendly helpful staff, great location, quiet room, awesome view of the Arenal Volcano, plenty to do in the area.
I can't think of anything that would need to be changed here. It is a remote location, having a rental car solves a lot of transportation problems.
