Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsIt was raining a lot, which caused to flood the hostal. And like A LOT of rain. So not just a regular rain shower. More like a thunder storm and cloudburst. A lot of rooms got flooded. It's located in a lower part of the village. If it rains I really recommend to put your valuable stuff, electronics, etc, in the locker to make sure it doesn't get wet. The hostal washed my stuff that got wet, for free. They put me and the other guests in a cabin for the night, for no additional cost. We were taken care of very well, but the rain might cause problems.
Kitchen available, fridge to store food. Close to the National Park Cahuita. Supermarket close by. Big shower. Big lockers.

BulgariaI know we're in the tropic but the lack of hot water bothers me. Sometimes you come from a walk all wet from the rain and a bit cold and the last thing you want is a cold shower. And maybe the bathroom didn't have a good ventilation because it smelled bad. It's a hostel, so be prepared to be tolerant with screaming kids early in the morning and careless parents that don't even try to control them. There must be rules for noise in shared accommodations.
Staff are great, very helpful, location is perfect, room and bathrooms are clean, the garden is beautiful, and I love that animals are roaming around unbothered.

ItalyMake sure to book when you are 100% sure that you are going as they are very strict with the reservation. As I missed my flight connection in Colombia, I could not arrive as planned. Despite showing proof of my trip distruption, they still charge me. During myvtravel I experienced that some other accommodations still managed to change/cancel the reservation, so I know that they can bend their own rule. A mirror in the room would be nice Other than that, nothing to complain
The place is quiet, clean and located a few minutes walk from the national parks, beaches, the bus stop and restaurants. The kitchen and shared bathrooms are extremely cleaned. The staff is very friendly and always ready to give advice. The only noise at night and early morning comes from the monkey. I end up staying 2 extra night

FranceThe only points I would hilight would be : for the shared bathroom that we have only one key to access but if you don't have urgent needs should be fine ;) I was with my brother and we were usually going together to open the door for each other. The fan wasn't well oriented, we tried to fix it but seems like it was broken, so one person was with a lot of air coming in the face.
We were in the kind of "cocoon" which was very original. We liked it a lot. It was confortable. The shared bathroom were super clean and big. We can see agouti and many crabs around ! It's at less than 5min by walk from the Cahuita Park and the center. Everything is accessible by walk. The receptionist was very friendly and gave us some places to check.

AustriaThe stuff at the reception were all very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and the beds were also good. The female dorm was quite spacious, the mixed dorm was a bit crowded. They had a nice garden where we also could spot some animals and it's very close to the bus station and also right around the corner of the national park and the beach

United KingdomThe only criticism is that the kitchen and communal spaces are closed off at about 21:30 until 7am, so if you need an early start before 7, you need to make sure you remove everything from the kitchen the night before.
The hostel is really well located between the bus station and the entrance to the National park. It is also close to the supermarket and restaurants. The kitchen is really well organised and the hostel is cleaned regularly. Beds also have an individual light, fan and shelf. And we had the bonus visit of several monkeys!

Ukraineeverything was fantastic; we arrived early and were hoping it was possible to leave the backpacks, but instead we were told the room is ready and even more, we got a free upgrade to the cabin on the upper floor. it was definitely adding so much to the experience, as you can see monkeys right from your window, it was a surreal morning :) the facilities were clean, the kitchen is very organised and spacious, all cute elements of the place like hammock, bookshelf, we loved everything. also location is very good, and so is the price - I cannot believe it actually hahah. would come again, alone with partner with friends - I think it's just a must in Cahuita, we did not want to leave!

NetherlandsThere are two reasons why I do not give it a 10. One is the fact that the kitchen only opens at 7am while most people wake up early (sunrise), so you cannot get to your own food before 7. I do not understand the logic behind it. The other reason is the fact that one night a Mexican girl staying in the female dorm was super drunk/drugged and was shouting all the time and quite agressive. There was no personnel during the night so no one to solve it and we had to manage ourselves. The day after they apologized , went to talk to the Mexican girl and explained that if something happens like that again there is an emergency number. They picked it up really well, but it also made me wonder what would happen if other casualties would happen and for instance a fire breaks out. It does not feel very safe that there is no personnel or security guard during the night.
After reading some reviews on Google I must say I was a bit anxious but the stay at secret garden was absolutely great. The woman who runs the plays is very friendly, the dorms are spacious and clean, and the garden is just lovely.
