Stairs are many, many (yes many) steep, uneven & can be slick. And inevitable to go anywhere to & from the cabin/lodge unless you have a car.

The cabin deck view is phenomenal, we saw tons of wildlife from there. Loved the open air shower. Good AC, fast & cold.

Not related to the property, but we didnt know that you should take out cash/USD before getting to Drake Bay as its the primary method to pay for tours and such to avoid needing to pay taxes. We got by using Paypal (Visa is accepted at all restaurants)

Amazing ocean view, fantastic cabins that were super clean, comfortable and really let you live the spirit of Costa Rica! We saw toucans, scarlet macaws and probably 10 other species of wildlife just while having breakfast! Even my hard to impress teenage daughter was blown away and sad to leave. The owner was exceptional and went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and connected with all of the tours (exceptional insect/reptile night tour by Jose Huertas - he took pictures for us that felt National Geographic quality, night time biolumenescent boat ride by Alavaro Pacheco) and booked us for all of the things we wanted to do.

Sunset Lodge far exceeded our expectations for this moderately priced accomodation. The view from our casita (room 3) over Drake Bay and the sunset was spectacular. We were surrounded by colourful birds and felt incredibly comfortable in this well-equipped place. Not only was there a coffee machine but also various kitchenware that allowed us to enjoy the tropical fruits on our terrace. Josue is a very friendly, laid back, and helpful host who helped us arrange seamless transportation between Sierpe, Drake Bay, and Sirena Ranger Station in the nearby Corcovado National Park.

The road up to the hotel is horrible and challenged my 4x4 driving skills. The path to the road is better but its only downside is the hot, hilly 1 mile road walk to the Drake trailhead. This was an amazing place to stay with wonderful views of the sea and surroundings. The wooden huts with a wide balcony are a birdwatcher’s paradise, with scarlet and green macaws, toucans, and pelicans all making flypasts - the perfect place to enjoy a cold beer at sunset. At night the crashing waves and occasional burst of howler monkeys makes the setting perfect. We really needed A/C during the day but the fan was adequate at night. A fridge and kettle is provided, which is particularly useful because the tap water isn’t drinkable.

Beautiful setting. The cabins are simple but have everything you need. A supermarket is nearby for water, beer, and basic things. I was worried it would be too hot to sleep at night, but the overhead and floor fans cooled it off nicely. They make a nice breakfast. Order it the day before. Someone comes in early to cook. The regular "family" wasn't there during our stay. Communication wasn't as strong. We somehow got on the wrong boat to Corcovado, but it turned out ok in the end. Overall, a great stay.

Hotel is at the top of a hill. Be prepared to hike up steep steps. The trade off is the amazing view!!

I loved staying for a few days in this very comfortable, clean and lovely cabin, surrounded by birds, crickets and cicadas. With an exceptional view of the sea and the surrounding area. Toucans and parrots fly overhead. This is paradise. You just have to like climbing hills, because the cabin is high up above the village.

It is high, but the views are worth it, but they could tidy up the steps from the road. Some of the hand rails need to be replaced.

We stayed in the Queen room with the private pool, its located at the highest point in the hotel and has a fanstastic view overlooking Drake. This room also has A/C which is much needed around Drake as its very warm in the evenings if you are not used to it. The room was spacious and is a bit mish mash with the decor but you are to busy by the pool or overlooking the the bay to care about that. there is some faciltites in the room for your convenience like a fridge microwave etc.. should you need. Breakfast down at the restaurant is very pleasant in the mornings overlooking the bay and lots of wildlife/birds around while you eat. There is also stair access down to the main road and its a 10-15 min walk down to the main bay area. ( 2min by car if you drove to drake)

Feeling of being remote… The host Jozue is a really nice and helpfull man. The ocean ride to Corcovado in bad weather… adrenalin pure. Not for everyone.

I missed a place to cook but there is a fridge and some flatware in the room to prepare your own breakfast.

Very nice bungalow with a stunning view and everything you need. You can watch the seaside and many birds from the balcony and it was very beautiful. It feels like paradise. Just be prepared for some big insects in your bathroom as there are no fly screens. That's what this paradise comes with :)

Beds are of poor quality and for some reason equipped with some kind of plastic sheet. Slept poorly in it.

Great location on the hill, excellent views over the area. Quiet at night with sounds from wildlife all around. Overall a nice cabin just big enough for a family of four. Host served breakfast at 5 am on days with early tour activity. Eating your food at sunrise with macaws passing by is simply breathtaking.

The water in the lodge is not drinking water, the only place in Costa Rica where we had this. They charge $2 for a 500ml bottle of water which is the same price a 2lt bottle in the shop. This is not good service and feels exploitative. The fridge was not switched on for our arrival and we did not notice until we realised all our food in it was warm

Great location, amazing views over the bay. We saw a toucan in a tree within 5 minutes of arriving. Lodge was well equipped and comfortable.

Even though every day a guy came to clean the pool, the water still felt a little dirty to me.

The view was amazing, the room was very spacious, comfortable and clean. Had everything needed (utensils, fridge) The bed was super comfortable!
