Super noisy as it is next to all the clubs so if you are a light sleeper, stay somewhere a bit more far away. If not, it is a really cute spot

Great and super welcoming owners!! They are very helpful with all the local recommendations and are always there for the guests:) Simple, clean, cosy, great location and wonderful food!! It gets loud in the evenings, but earplugs are provided for those who want an early night - and they work so well! We enjoyed our stay very much!! Thanks to Augustin and all the stuff!!!

The sounds of night life can be loud, but the lodge provides earplugs which help a lot.

The location was very central and close to the beach. The room was peaceful and cutely decorated, as was the rest of the lodge. They provided towels for the pool, bathing, and for visiting the beach. The included breakfast was amazing. The staff were all friendly and extremely helpful. They treated us like family from the beginning with advice and ideas on activities to do and places to enjoy.

The bathroom was slightly lackluster and the showers water pressure was poor.

The beds were comfy, rooms were spacey and the reception/ restaurant was really modern and cool. The breakfast was amazing.

This was one of our multiple stays in Costa Rica, and we were truly impressed. The rooms were clean, spacious, and well-equipped. Above all, the Refugio concept — which includes a beautiful café and a cozy bar offering excellent food and drinks — truly exceeded our expectations. Unlike at other accommodations, we didn't have to eat Gallo Pinto for breakfast every day, but could instead choose from a wide variety of delicious brunch options directly from the restaurant/bar. The staff were friendly and always ready to help with anything we needed — from arranging surf lessons to recommending great local restaurants. We were mainly in touch with Augustin, who took excellent care of us. Overall, we were delighted with our stay and can highly recommend this place.

Thus was a quick 2 day stop, found Refugio by accident with no regrets, Augustin the host went we'll beyond his duties. He set up a last minute tour to the estuary where we saw crocs and monkeys, The room was nice outside the pool. Location 3 min walk to the beach and a well worthwhile breakfast. It can get a bit noisy on weekend nights because of parties in town, but with earplugs it was fine. Not a fault of the property but the whole town :)

The place is clean, comfortable, and has a nice pool to cool off in. Breakfast was great, especially the omelette :) They have great coffees during the day. We also loved the burgers. Big thanks to Augustín, who helped us with check-in and gave us useful tips throughout our stay.

It was an amazing time in Costa Rica—huge thanks to Agustín! The place is simple yet charming, with incredible breakfasts and the kindest, most helpful people. Located in the heart of Tamarindo, it’s just steps from restaurants and within walking distance of the beach. Plus, there’s a grocery store right across the street. We knew it would be lively at night, but it wasn’t an issue. Agustín provided us with earplugs, which helped a lot—we slept well despite the music outside. The atmosphere and energy here are absolutely unbeatable. For beach lovers: head to the left side for a quieter, soft sandy beach. If you’re looking for more action, the right side offers surfing, beach clubs and the massage for $35-$40/hour ;) Thank a lot, Agustín for such welcoming hospitality!;)l

Madam it was perfect for the two of us.

We stayed in the double queen #3 and for two nights. The hospitality and kindness and professionalism by this entire team - all owners and on site, was outstanding. The care and focus on prioritizing the guest experience is rare in and of itself - amazing experience - and omg the homemade yogurt and breakfast - included in our stay was exceptional!

It’s not that I didn’t like it—just a couple of small recommendations. The TV had constant issues, with problems displaying the image. Also, the curtains in our room were too small for the window, so they didn’t provide full privacy. Nothing major, just little details!

The location is super convenient, and the cafeteria and bar at the lodge add a fun vibe for those who enjoy a good time. What really made our stay special, though, was the staff—everyone was so warm and welcoming. Huge shoutout to Agustin for the awesome tour recommendations. amazing breakfast options. That PINTO BURRITO—just wow!! Thanks again for everything!

Refugio Surf Lodge is a lovely property, wonderful staff! It’s right in the middle of Tamarindo nightlife, so the only downside to that is if you want quiet at night, use the earplugs they provide!!

Neighbor bar hasmusic at night, but we were advised in advance. Also not the host fault. He kindly gave us ear plugs! We slept like angels :)

"It's like a little gem". The location is unbeatable!!Excellent price for value. You don't need a car to move around Tamarindo downtown. All shops, bars, restaurants, supermarkets are just a few steps away. The best of all is Agustín, our host. He was welcoming and helpful with tips what to do and where to eat. He helped us with a car rental :) Beds are comfortable, the deco is clean and chic, it has toiletries. There is a pool surrounded by trees, nice ambient music was played in the background, just perfect for relaxing, also strong wifi and nice chairs to read or work. It has all you need! We will return for sure!

The location is in the center of town so there is some noise from the bars. I am a light sleeper but had the AC on and earplugs and it was fine.

The location is perfect for exploring around Tamarindo. Walking distance to grocery stores, bank, restaurant and the beach. The breakfast is delicious. Agustín is extremely helpful and available to assist you during your stay. The staff are very kind.

The hotel is super stylish and perfectly located. I really enjoyed my stay there. The hotel manager and the staff were especially nice and helped me in many situations. The café is also excellent, and the breakfast was simply delicious! Everything was perfect! I would stay at this hotel again anytime and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a central yet quiet and cool spot in Tamarindo.

You can hear what’s happening outside due to the location being very central. They provide earplugs for the most sensitive ones :)

Like mention in reviews it can be quite loud on the weekends as it’s near bars and clubs. If you are sensitive to sound be mindful of this.
