How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewWe enjoyed our stay at Tamarindo Sunshine. The room and bathroom were spacious, clean and had a nice balcony to sit in. Sol & Emmanuel were very considerate and though of the little things their guests would need during their stay (ex. beach towels and chairs, umbrellas, flashlight, coffee etc). Staff were kind and responsive to our messages. It was located in a good area, about 3 mins walking distance to the beach and a 5 min walk to Jardin Tamarindo food truck park and other restaurants. Please note there was construction near the area which may be noisy (it started around 6 am even on Weekends) and the path to the resident was very muddy. Also, suggest carrying bug spray as there were mosquitoes in and out of the room. Overall, it was a beautiful property and we had a great stay. Thank you!

Verified reviewGreat place to wind down. Fully equipped kitchen, even came with common spices free to use. The location is amazing, only a short walk from the shore. Very close to the center of town, far enough to be quiet while still feeling safe. Additionally, the owner of the property is amazing a responding to any concerns through WhatsApp; before, during and even after the stay. Has outdoor shower, place to dry your clothes, beach chairs, boogie boards and parking secluded from the main road (not private though)

Verified reviewWe enjoyed our stay at Tamarindo sunshine a lot. The check in process was very easy and the staff here were beyond friendly, they were amazing!! We felt safe and secure staying there. We’re already planning our next stay here and we’re looking forward to it!!
We liked everything about the property. The only thing was construction next door but they kept us well informed about it and we knew the second we booked. We’re early risers and explored all day so when we arrived back they were done for the day so it really didn’t bother us.

This is Sol, the owner, we make it as much clear as we can the construction next to us… I do believe that when you only book a place for one night you don’t pay attention much to ALL the information we give to our guests. Hopefully you had a great time even though we have the construction, that feel up my heart! We wish this neighbors finish quickly… hopefully they will be done in October, in the meantime we will continue try to be as transparent as we can and treat our customers in the best way like we always do. Verified reviewHighly recommended. Lovely oasis of a property hidden a block back from the main avenue. Nicely located...walk to the beach in < 5 minutes and into town in < 10 minutes. The property itself was very clean, secure and beautiful. Our room was comfortable and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed. The property manager was exceptional - she was available, generous and took time to help us with a special accommodation we required. Walk to the beach was short...less than 5 minutes. Parking space was available during our visit.
It was pretty much perfect. No suggestions for improvements.

Verified reviewGreat location in Tamarindo, close to everything. Staff were good and helpful with shuttle booking.
Biggest problem was noise. One night we had an animal (most probably raccoon or something) outside our room that screamed very loud all night. We got max 2 hours sleep all night because of that. Next night construction started 6am so and it felt like it was done inside the room because it was so loud, so only got very few hours again of sleep. Rooms and shared kitchen was not clean enough, we had ants in the coffee maker. Also the bed was one of the more uncomfortable we have got while travelling.
Hi Nathalie, Thank you for your feedback, I will go ahead and answer this review just to clarify some things, first, we leave it very very clear since moment one, that you will have experience of construction noice during your stay… we cannot be more transparent…this is why you have a great deal on price on the dates you reserved. Second and more important! The “animal noice” is called HOWLER monkeys that is the reason why many people travel… they start to sing at 4 am… there is nothing we can do about that… sorry you could go back to sleep. As far as the common areas… we said they are CLOSED for safety, so we do not allow people to go there until is ready. We hope you find peace and discover Costa Rica Nature again. Happy new year. Verified reviewEmmanuel was very helpful! You are in good hands if you choose to stay here. It's a 5 mins walk to the beach and less than 10mins from a mini market/liquor store. The hotel provides beach chairs and beach towels.
