Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing really. Only things that could improve would be if food was available regularly in the evenings or ability to cook but there are plenty of places nearby. and more relaxing furniture on individual balconies but I know this is planned. Not a problem at all though.
Lovely atmosphere. All staff were very helpful and friendly. Very chilled vibe. Stunning view and close to amenities. Restaurant food was really good. Felt relaxed straight away.

Excellent location and views. Keep in mind it is very steep and difficult to climb. Room is cute, unfortunately we had an ant infestation but they took care of it. Could be better with a breakfast included.

United StatesI had some trouble sleeping on a Friday night because the hotel is located on a hill, and there was noise from traffic. The host assured me that week nights are not as noisey, but I was only there one night.
Montezuma is a fun, lively town, and the beach is amazing. The host at this hotel was fascinating to talk to, and he has a lot of insights about the history of the area. There is a common area where you check in with an outstanding view of the ocean, where it's possible to meet and mingle with other guests. The breakfast was great.

GermanyAs the accommodation is located next to a road, like most hotels in Montezuma, earplugs are recommended.
Host Dorian and his team gave us a very warm welcome and we immediately felt at home. We were also given lots of worthwhile recommendations for the surrounding area. Our room had a breathtaking view and a very comfortable bed. The common area also has a fantastic view and invites you to linger. If you are looking for a hotel with a relaxed hostel vibe, this is the place for you. We had a wonderful time here and would come back any time :)

United KingdomDefinitely not a negative as we loved this place, but if I were to pick something to improve it would be to make the rooms a bit more homely as they are quite basic
We loved our stay here - we were welcomed by Andreas who was so friendly and gave us loads of recommendations. Our room had the most amazing views over the ocean, as did the communal area below. We got up each morning to watch sunrise and the owner Dorian always had a pot of coffee on ready for us which was so nice! They also have a lovely yoga platform and yoga mats which you can use whenever you want. All of the rooms are in a beautiful jungle setting so you often see lizards, monkeys and other animals. Highly recommend this place!

United StatesThe staff was rather casual. Cree, who greeted me, was very friendly and welcoming. I seemed to be the only guest, but when I encountered the owner, the yoga teacher and 2 young men and a young woman, on separate occasions, who appeared to work there, no one seemed engaged in welcoming me or introducing themselves as staff. I initiated my introductions and felt as though I was interrupting. The owner knew nothing about transportation in the area. None of this would have mattered to me had there not been 3 dogs on the property, one of whom belonged to a couple who seemed to work and stay there. The dog was unleashed and aggressive. I'm good with dogs, but I did fear that this one might bite. There was no attempt to introduce me to the dog, though they heard or saw him bark and snap at me. There was no acknowledgement of my discomfort. I had to walk past or near this dog en route to my room and the bathroom, or he would approach my rooms outdoor seating area and bark and growl. I mentioned this when leaving to little reaction. Dogs are the responsibility of the owner. If you're not going to train or introduce the dog, he needs to be leashed for the comfort of your guests.
The location is great. Quiet aside from the howler monkeys (and some random, repeated hitting sound in the middle of the night coming from the casita where the aggressive dog seemed to live.)

GermanyBad exchange rate (booked in $, paid in colones) instead of the proper one - even after asking about it. Reason: "It's changing all the time, so we keep our own" (a lot higher). I asked at a bank & police station later & they said this isn't legal. They must give the official exchange rate or nearby. I felt scammed & ripped off. - Don't book tours here. They overcharge a lot (again). Walk 3 mins down to the city to book. Feeling ripped off twice left a bitter taste. I perceived this behavior of overcharging as fake for a place that sells itself as "positive vybes, awareness, love & yoga".
You feel like you're in the middle of the jungle, lots of green area, you can see a lot of birds, a big Iguana up in the trees and racoons. Nice jungle feeling. Well designed with love (pictures, decoration). Absolutely great view from the terrasse! Yoga deck and hammocks to chill. Gorgeous sunsets! Feels like a peaceful home. I recommend but PAY ATTENTION TO THE EXCHANGE RATE they give you & INSIST on the official one! Or try the place 1 min further up...

United StatesPart of this was our fault for not looking at the description more closely, but this place is not a hotel, it’s a rustic hostel. There was clearly some upkeep that needed to be done. The rooms are open air with no AC and very thin walls, so there is NO privacy. The room we stayed in had a shared bathroom which was not very clean. Also the room we stayed in was right above the communal space so you heard every conversation and movement about. We were so uncomfortable we changed hotels and the owner made no attempts at a refund. Live and learn, don’t book a non refundable hotel.
The location was the one redeeming factor of this place, however it was on a busy road into town so you could hear traffic pretty clearly.

United StatesNo mosquito net! These were biting we, and it was impossible to sleep. About 8 mosquitos in my room, and it was a very painful night. Outside, it was very dark, and you definitely need to bring your own headlamp and mosquito net. Ants were building nest inside my room. For the price, i wouldn't come here again, but it is a very interesting place. The plastic towel was provided, and it was disgusting to use. It was very clean, but it was impossible to dry you up because the towel is hydrophobic. So also bring your own towel.
