We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.

Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. CanadaThis property is well kept, very clean, but a bit older. If you’re looking for extremely new everything, it might not be for you. But it more than makes up for it in charm and hospitality.
We booked this last minute after some problems with our original booking. Everyone was so accommodating and nice! The room was exactly what we needed as a family - everyone had their own space, plus a cozy family space for us to lounge in. The location couldn’t be beat. We parked our car and left it for days on end - it was so nice to be able to just walk around town! We had to leave a few days early because of an emergency back home, and everyone was so loving and caring about it. We felt like family.

Liked everything @ Tico, this property is designed very well. Communal kitchen had everything and super clean. Pool excellent. Yoga and massage if you want to purchase. It has been the best accommodation in CR so far. Wifi was good too. Very short walk to the beach and everything else. Great value as well.

United StatesWe stayed in mid-April 2025 and had an amazing experience. We chose the Rancho, a 4-bunk bed room with a shared bathroom, and it ended up being the perfect mix of comfort, privacy, and convenience. The room had air conditioning and a large private lanai/balcony, which gave us our own peaceful space to unwind. The beds were super comfortable, and the nights were surprisingly quiet. We’d read some reviews about street noise, but coming from New York City, it felt minimal to us. What we did hear were the sounds of nature—howler monkeys at night, cicadas singing throughout the day—which only added to the feeling that we were truly somewhere special. The open-air kitchen was right downstairs and well-stocked, and we took full advantage of it during our stay. It was always clean and comfortable, as was the shared bathroom, and housekeeping came by every day to keep everything fresh. The pool was just steps away—about 15 feet—which made it easy to cool off anytime. One thing we really appreciated was the layout of the property. Everything you need is nearby, yet it still feels very private. We felt completely safe the entire time, which was especially important since we were an all-female traveling group. The staff was lovely and thorough, and we loved the relaxed, welcoming energy of the whole place. We met a mix of solo travelers, couples, and families—everyone was friendly but respectful of space. It was also a fun bonus to hang out with the owner’s dog and cat, who added a little extra charm to the stay. The location is absolutely perfect—walking distance to both the beach and town. You don’t need a car at all. That said, we’d recommend renting a bike, especially if you’re sensitive to the heat—it can get intense during the day. We had a bit of rain and some overcast skies during our visit, but it never lasted long, and the clouds were often a welcome break from the sun. All in all, this place offers great value for what you get.

AustraliaI really loved this place. The location is close to everything, staff is really helpful, I loved to have a kitchen where to prepare my own foods, room was comfortable. The only little thing is… that you hear the noise of the street quite a bit. But I guess that’s part of being in town anyways. I generally loved it!

United KingdomWe stayed in a Standard Double Room (Room 1), which had air conditioning (glorious in Samara in April), and an amazing terrace-balcony with rocking chairs and a hammock. The whole place was spotlessly clean the entire time, and the kitchen was a great place to make food and hang out, and it was great to have coffee there each morning. The pool was a lovely place to cool off, and we really appreciated being able to use it at any time. The yoga terrace is also a really nice space. Andrea was really welcoming and helpful. The hotel is just on the North edge of Samara, but the whole town is so small, it was easy to pop in and out of the hotel between activities, and we saw the local troop of Howler Monkeys passing by a few times just outside the hotel. If I was staying in Samara again I would definitely book this location again, especially since it's just down the road from Roots Bakery.

United StatesThe location was great, just a short 4-minute walk to the beach! The property was lovely and just what we expected. The wifi could be a bit spotty at times and our room was near the road, so there was some noise from that but we really enjoyed our week-long stay in Samara, lounging at the beach, boogie boarding and enjoying live music in town during the evening hours (go to Limey's)! The host is great; she'll be happy to make recommendations on where to go and things to do. We loved the dog and cat:) You can sign up for yoga classes (extra fee, cash), get a massage, etc.

CanadaI didn’t have a good check in . The woman at reception was abrupt and not very friendly. On arrival she was in the phone ( no worries there) after traveling 3 hours on a bus I was thirsty and made the mistake of helping myself to the water in the water cooler( with my own water bottle) , while waiting for her to finish up. She was very rude saying I am not allowed to drink from the water cooler. Also the pool was not working for a couple of days on arriving. Lastly, the coffee for being Costa Rica was average at best. I should be thankful it was “included”
The property was fantastic Close to the beach and town. Almost all the staff was very friendly The kitchen and common areas were lovely. The yoga room was an added bonus. My particular room was adequate , nothing fancy but clean and the water was hot. Liked the hammock outside of my room.

SwitzerlandGreat accommodation in beautiful Samara. My four-bed room was upstairs with a small balcony and seating area, making it very spacious for a single person. I particularly liked the well-equipped shared kitchen and the yoga area, which I was also able to use. The beach is just a few minutes walk away. A fantastic experience, and I would come back here again anytime.

This is likely the cleanest spot ive stayed in costa rica. immaculate attention to detail - quite a large staff of cleaners each day. the kitchen is highly equipped, extremely clean (which is very hard to do with a goup kitchen). location cant be beat.

United StatesLeaving at the end of our stay.
We enjoyed the pool and ways to rinse off sand and salt. Great room options: Our house had a great kitchen and large bathroom while some of our group stayed in smaller cottages. The location was easy walking distance to shops/restaurants/beach yet away from the crowds. Landscape enhanced the privacy while the community kitchen and pool allowed us to meet travelers from all over the world. Staff was great and accommodated our special requests.

United KingdomThe bed is so high that my wife struggled to get on it, but it was all part of the experience! The hotels decor and furniture is a little dated, but we were comfortable and happy to be there!
The room was spacious, plenty of facilities and our terrace was large and comfortable. We loved our dips in the pool after being out and about in the heat. We slept very well, with the only disturbance being the howler monkeys and the dawn chorus, which we really enjoyed! Indigo the cat also called for breakfast at 06.00, which was a nice surprise. The location is less than 10 mins to the wonderful beach, and closer to many restaurants, shops and bars.

This was one of my best stays during the whole 10 day trip to CR and NOT the most expensive either - Excellent value for money. My room didn't have AC but I was fine with the fan, shower with hot water, clean room with towel + beach towel, the pool was super nice. I just liked the feel of the whole place with all the trees and vegetation, so 'peaceful' and 'relaxing'. The kitchen is super well equipped, they have everything you need and more (even a charcoal BBQ), it's also super clean. The communal area made it easy to meet other guests if you were travelling alone. I met some very nice people during my stay. The owner also cooked for the staff and they had lunch together while I was there, which I thought was a nice gesture from the management. There is also a security guard at night and a gate at the entrance. I really enjoyed my time at Tico Adventure Lodge.
