How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content

To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe location is perfect, easy walking distance to beach, supermarkets, restaurants, gym, and only one block from the WAYRA Spanish school which was the reason for my stay. The room was exactly as represented on the listing, with all the amenities expected. The host Agélie is fantastic, and she went above and beyond by booking local shuttle transport to and from the guest house, providing a wealth of information and recommendations about Tamarindo, and being flexible with my checkout time. All in all an exceptional stay.

The owner sat us down for about 2 hours upon arrival to go over all the amenities in the area, which was nice, but did not seem optional and was very overwhelming after traveling all day. My airpods were also missing upon returning back to the house one day, which was the only valuable item that I did not lock up in the safe. The owner was very upset when I brought this up and asked if she had seen them.
Dear Mrs Alisa, At least you liked our Villa Guest House B&B & Studios 3 stars clean thank you. Firstable we never did in 10 years a 2 hours check in so that is not correct, normaly it is around 20 to 30 minutes depending on our guest questions. To welcome you at the best, I give you advices and tips on house policies...security in Tamarindo, top activities of the area and restaurants , supermarket..on a map, that 90% of our guest appreciated and thanks us for it. Concerning your airpods missing, let s be fair... you only contact us after your departure date late at night at 9:30 pm by text asking if we have found anything after your early check out in the morning. As I replied to you professionally being sorry that as I verified the rooms each time before to clean in it , I did not found anything and neither later did my professional trustful good cleaning staff working for us since 5 years. To be honest I did not know what was an Airpods and when I ask her, she had also no idea what I was talking about, I had to look on internet... really ?! Our property is well secured always with locked gate and controled who enter or not, with sharks wire.. and we checked on our entrances cameras, nothing. You must be mistaken and got robbed after checking out from our place as I explained. So accusing us, our staff for something that could of been robbed during your 6…hours travel back to San Jose by bus with others people...or elsewhere. Certainly like what happened to you in San Jose before to come at our Guest House Boutique Hotel in Tamarindo. You start at you arrival to tell me that you got robbed of $300 in a Hostel in San Jose when you went to the bathroom without your wallet staying in the dormitory… It’s shows that you do not really care about even your precious stuffs, strange no ? We are not a Hostel but a small Guest House B & B and in 10 years our guests never got robbed. Is it to get you an insurance refund ? Having not been to Tamarindo before this place was PERFECT for location as it's literally down the road from the beach. Upon arrival, Agelie greeted us and was super helpful with providing information about Tamarindo and everything that this amazing part of Costa Rica has to offer! Having lived there for a number of years, Agelie had so much useful information about the tours, restaurants, surroundings etc.. You name it, she could help you with it! The room was perfect for what we needed. Good size, clean, and had a pool right outside in the shared area, which us and the other guests could use. Would 100% recommend staying here if you want somewhere close to the beach and bars/restaurants and value your privacy. **Special shout out to her little son for providing us with his homemade lemonade every day - super refreshing in the dry season heat! Verified reviewWe were in the ground floor room with pool view, family of 3. The room was spacious. Although it seemed a bit dated, the room was clean and kept in perfect condition by the staff on daily basis. We had a fridge and kitchen appliances to prepare our breakfast. The beds were clean and very comfortable. The pool area felt like an oasis, but beware of mosquitos. The owner Agelie did a great job to make us feel at home and was always ready to help by offering advice on tours and restaurants.
The power sockets could be better placed, as sometimes we had to use a portable socket hanging from the kitchen top. The accomodation is not the closest to the center but still just a 5-10min away on foot. Sometimes the pool could be cleaned a bit better, but it was still enjoyable. For the price maybe we would expect just a little more, but overall it was a very good stay.
Dear Filipino, We are very happy that you had a very good stay and could relax with your family and felt at home at the Villa… I’m glad you liked my tips on the area, restaurants, tours… As we were at the end of December, usually with less mosquito, we had some rain for the first time in 9 years that bring more mosquitos until we treated naturally each months like in raining saison. But even on the beach you will have mosquitos during both saison. Concerning the pool, we are sorry but we had a technical issue during your stay that has been fixed since. The power sockets are in different places in that room, next to the bed side table on the wall behind the head of the bed, behind the start of the sofa so that would of been maybe easier for you than the one in the Kitchen side, sorry if I did not show you. We are at 250 meters from the beach and at 400 meters from the center so close but in a quiet area at walking distance from everything. You came at Christmas & New Years time , the peak season that is the most demanding period of the years so yes price are higher at this time in Tamarindo… We are looking forward to welcome you again maybe during green saison to discover differently Tamarindo area and other part of Costa Rica… Pura Vida Agélie

Verified reviewThe couple that own this property are incredibly inviting, friendly, and helpful. We arrived in Tamarindo with loose ideas of what we wanted to do, but didn't have anything booked. They recommended so many great activities, like a private surf lesson and a catamaran trip and took a lot of the effort of research off of our hands. The property itself is relaxing, secluded, and safe. Still centrally located and easy to walk everywhere in town.

Verified reviewProperty was within walking distance (down a short gravely dirt road and then a partially paved road) to the beach. Short doable walk. Many options close by! Breakfast was great! Outdoor shower option nice! Felt safe and secure on property. You are given a key to unlock/lock gate as u come/go. View from terrace onto pool and surrounding foliage beautiful. Quiet hours 8:00 pm… some will appreciate this
Overpriced!! Property difficult to find, no numbers or signage. Lots of stair climbing with your luggage; uneven terrain & stairs handicap or elderly could not stay here! A bit too quiet/stuffy atmosphere (realize some will love this) Too many knickknacks consuming the table and bathroom counter, unnecessary. Lighting in room is next to none, basically non-existent!!! They do have a flashlight in the rooms so they are aware the lighting is not suffice. Terrible water pressure!!The worst was the sink, to the point we thought the water valves had been turned off. Easy to hear other guest and home owners in their rooms; could see daylight into their area thru shared interior door. No ice. Not allowed to use AC during day (staff even shut ours off while we were sitting pool side) While using the restroom and spouse sitting outside, staff came in shut off our AC and began pulling open our curtains. Even after opening the bathroom door and acknowledging that I was in the room they didn’t immediately leave. Very disturbing!

Concerning the overprices : You have to know that Tamarindo & Costa Rica at this time of the year is not a cheap destination & regard to our competitors, we are really well placed. In Costa Rica, you don't have street with name, number and all paved, this is why on my confirmation email I specified that you can find us directly with "No need of Internet with WAZE" or then google...Sorry but 90% of the shuttles knows or finds us. You are talking about having a disable room but further your Booking reservation, we are NOT Classified Disable or Handicap on Booking but it is specified that your room is on the second floor with strairs and reconfirmed on my email & whatsapp. To quiet or not enough ? It is a living Guest House Lightning : Your room got 6 lights...sorry NO white big bars on the sealing, it's not the style of the property if you noticed & the rechargable torsh light is only to help our guest when short cut happen, really ??? Water pressure : Further my email of confirmation & infos, as the water company cut the street water longer during the afternoon, their is less water pression as we are on tanks of ( 7 200 liters reserve). No ice : Again we are only a little Guest House , not a bar or Restaurant and at your arrival before you asked, I suggest you to buy a bag if ice at 250 meters and that you could put it in our Rancho freezer, that you did ! You could also make ice cube in your room mini fridge & freezer as in Costa Rica the water is drinkable but as explained it it is better to avoid it so every hotel guest buy their own ice bags. AC : Further my email confirmation/infos & whatsapp, the goverment is sensibilising all the tourisme area to turn of the AC wile NOT in the room as Costa Rica is at 100 % on green energy. Like every hotels here as explained, the staff is turning it of each time they will do the day cleaning wile you are gone out only. On your first day this is what happened but you came back briefly and they had already cleaned the room as my staff never stay when guest are in the room sorry. PS : In the matter of fact , they complained that you never respond or say hello or thank you during your stay while serving you breakfast ... Even a minimum of politeness. Verified reviewFriendly and very helpful hosts! They are there for anything you need. Beds are comfortable. Had cleaning staff everyday. Pool was nice.
Wish we could have a light outside on after 8pm so we can play cards. If you wanted to stay up you'd need to be in your room or out of the Villa at night. It's kinda hard though because the hosts don't want to deal with people being loud and staying up forever.

Verified reviewI loved the guest house and our accommodation! Our studio apartment had everything we needed, a small kitchenette where we prepared food, a comfy couch and coffee table area to relax with a book, and even a small private outdoor area, where I enjoyed hearing the sounds of the birds. The property is quiet and beautiful, while still in a central location in the town of Tamarindo. It is a 5 minute walk to the beach, shopping and restaurants. We received warm service from the owners and staff and a ton of recommendations on where to go to make the best of our stay. We enjoyed having coffee and breakfast at the property too, it was delicious! The pool area is wonderful too, a great place to relax. I can not wait to go again!
Wish there was a full size mirror in the room and more shelving in the bathroom. Also wish there were complimentary coffee and fruit, throughout the day in the restaurant area near the pool.

Verified reviewWe loved our stay at Villa Nautilus. The owners were very accommodating to us traveling with small children. We enjoyed our stay and our son had a lot of fun playing with Lenzo. The location couldn’t have been more perfect and even though it was so close to the main strip it was very quiet. The breakfast was very good-the staff were lovely.
