How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe hosts are incredibly friendly and welcoming. With their dogs and cats, they create a truly unique and heartwarming atmosphere right in the middle of nature. In the evening, we enjoyed reading on the beautifully decorated and inviting terrace, all while having fun with little Rio, the playful dog. The experience was perfected by the delicious breakfast, with a choice of five different styles (Costa Rican, French, American, and more), and by the refreshing pool. We can wholeheartedly recommend this hotel and only regret that we stayed for just one night. If you’re looking for paradise, you’ll find it here.

Verified reviewThey hosted a pizza night the evening we arrived and the pizza was awesome. The restaurant and community area were nice.
Our stay here was quite a disappointment during our vacation in Costa Rica. The standard villa room looked very dated and old, had a musty smell and was really dark. It was also tiny with a double bed with very little apace around it. There was no place to put your luggage or unpack anything. The bathroom was also tiny and the kitchenette on the balcony is minimal. For us the value for money did not match at all and the room looks nothing like the photos shown. We stayed at hotels with similar cost to Villas en el Bosque in Costa Rica which were much better. We booked 3 nights and left after one night with no refund.
We are very sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us. The standard room is appreciated by those who book it and corresponds to the description on the website. We put all our heart into our hotel and we always try to satisfy our customers. The hotel was fully booked, so we were unable to offer you a larger alternative. Regarding prices, this is the first time we've had such negative feedback, and compared with other hotels in the area our prices are generally a little lower than those on the market. Nevertheless, I hope you've been able to enjoy the rest of your vacation and the magnificent nature that surrounds us.

Verified reviewThe hosts are super lovely and helpful and there is a nice view to the ocean from the restaurant area. The food is good and they have special events like movie nights happening occasionally. The place is a local expat hangout so it's ideal if you appreciate this type of crowd. There's a smallish pool on the property.and a private reserve through which there's access to the seaside.
The property is right next to the road and the noise coming from the trucks trying to make it up the hill day and night is unbearable. Also although near the ocean there's no proper beach in this stretch of the coast, you have to take a cab to some other nearby beach for that. We had 5 of their 6 rooms and two of them were really small with barely any room around the bed.

Verified reviewI liked every bit of the lodge, from the kindness of the staff to the view from the deck and our room (number 5), the sightings of parrots, monkeys and kinkajous (at night) as well as the frogs, the arboreal crabs and so on. The food was perfect and the place is close to the major beaches and attractions of the area (you need a car of course). And of course, we loved to pet the cute home dog Lafayette and the cats!
If you’re VERY sensitive to noise, maybe you could be bothered by the noise coming from the main road. BUT, it’s not loud at all and while sleeping we never had any issue about that. It was all quiet and comfortable. What we didn’t really like? Having just three nights there instead of a whole month

Verified reviewWhere do I start: The beautiful surroundings, pure jungle with so many monkeys, toucans, parrots, butterflies, etc...the design of the common areas; restaurant, bar, reading space, so well decorated. The pool, so refreshing. The breakfasts, abundant and delicious. The villas, especially #3 where we stayed, with its outdoor kitchenette, sharing our time with nature! Our hosts: Vanessa, Nicholas, and Lafayette, and the chef...kind, generous, attentive, passionate! ♡ The location, close to several waterfalls, and Marino Ballena Natiinal Park, we enjoyed playa Uvita so much! Conveniently, some of the best restaurants are in Ojochal! Bistro Ballena, Heliconia, Citrus. We also loved Villas en el Bosque' Chef's lasagna, so delicious, it was night to eat dinner in this beautiful spot, steps from our place!
We loved absolutely everything!

Our hosts were incredibly warm and welcoming, going above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend!

The terrace and the restaurant were beautifully decorated for Christmas. We felt very comfortable here and would highly recommend the hotel for a stay in Uvita. Thank you so much for that!

There is a hill you have to climb in your car. But you get used to driving up. Coming in and off highway can be tricky because it’s 90 degree turn
