How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe host Wendy is very nice and an excellent guide. We enjoyed a night walk with her through the forest and saw different species of frogs, a turtle and many other animals. After the walk Wendy's mother served a delicious dinner.

Verified reviewLots of trees and birds. Hammocks on the balconies. Mosquito nets on all the beds. Nice to have the option of having local food prepared.
Noisy whipper sniper in the morning. The house creaked all night and kept us awake.

Verified reviewsubmersed in nature. unique experience. river rafting is a must here!
although there are nets to protect you from insects, the netting is old and has gaps in parts of it which could easily be fixed.

Verified reviewVery pretty environment with a lot of options for activities. Wendy and her mom were so nice and sweet. Big house with nice teraces. Comfy bed with mosquito net. Delicious meals (very big portions) made by the mom. We booked some activities via Wendy and they were great value for your money and the guides were really good and friendly (True pura vida)
Sadly Wendy couldn't do a night tour. @Wendy: we hope that you rest well and soon can be out and about again. Some mosquito nets in the windows had some holes and need replacement. A ceiling fan in the bedrooms would be a nice adjustment.

Verified reviewLocation is nice. The family owns a large lot and have built a few homes along the road. Host was available to answer any question over whatsapp or to arrange tours for us. For a fee (4500 colones), guests can access the trail to catarata poza azul across the road. The night sounds are great, and toucans and tanagers come right to the guest houses. All the beds have mosquito nets installed which is nice. A portion of the windows nets are newer, but most have holes here and there.
Keep in mind this is an eco house with no closed windows or ac, so bugs and humidity are to be expected. Moving furniture usually sends some insects scurrying. Not a deal breaker, just something to be aware of. However, the master bedroom had too many ants scouting all over the floor to be comfortable, and a huge grasshopper had become trapped in the room. The door or maybe windows have large enough gaps to let these in which should be solvable. The light in the room was burnt out so we attempted to clean up in the dark. We did not have access to any internet during our stay. The host tried to reset the router but this didn't solve the issue. Cell service in this area is very spotty, so we were relying on wifi for this portion of the trip.

Verified reviewThis place is authentic, the family is so beautiful and nice. We love the honest and the calme ambiance! Nothing is too much, everything is simple but juste pure. The night tour was beautiful, so we'll explained, and very interesting. The welcoming totally perfect even if we booked last minute. And the breakfast... Just incredible. Not only because of the food, it was very good and gluten free for me, which can be complicate sometimes, but mostly because of the mother. The is a beautiful soul, full of love and kindness. Thank you for everything!
My partner is tall and the bed was a little bit small (Costa Rican size). Nothing terrible, and he get use to it because it is nearly everywhere like that in costa Rica.

Verified reviewThis "Guest House" is huge. A family of 4+ could easily move in here and live comfortably. The back decks are beautiful to just sit and watch the jungle. It is a little way down the road from the city, which means it is quiet and very laid back. I had both a breakfast and a dinner while at the guest house. Both were great portions with a lot of variety, tasty, and well worth the money. Unfortunately, my schedule and Wendy's schedule didn't align for her bird tour. There was lots of flora and fauna to explore. My personal sightings included Toucans and a Morpha butterfly. I'm willing to bet that there was a lot I missed that Wendy could have found and shared!
Signage getting to the property is a little confusing. If you're going down the road and you come to a circular sign that says "Wendy's eco house", you've missed the entrance. Back up the road a little ways and you'll find an entrance gate nearby. This leads to the lodges. I initially pulled into the house, and my presence there was very confusing. It took quite a while to work out where I needed to be. Once I figured it out, though, all was good!

Verified reviewWe had an amazing stay at Wendy's place. If you would like a true Costa Rican experience staying with a beautiful family in your own house, then this is for you. Order breakfast and dinner every day and you will be very happy that you did! Wendy's mother brings breakfast to you, and her sister the evening meal. The food is delicious and plentiful and we had enough often to take for lunch when we were out and about. The birding morning with Wendy was great, and she arranged a fantastic river trip where we were the only two folks plus the captain and a young guide! We were adopted by the three family dogs and they almost always accompanied us on our walks up and down the road looking for birds. There is a tree a couple of hundred yards down the road that has 50 plus Oronpendula nests! We loved our 5 nights here and felt like we became part of their family.
Nothing!

Verified reviewWe had an amazing stay. The location of the house is perfect, surrounded by nature. Many birds and other animals to see! Wendy and her family are so kind. Breakfast and dinner, made by Rita, tasted really good. Oso the dog showed us the way to a beautiful waterfall and swimming place nearby. Sarapiqui is a nice region, a lot of nature to explore without crowds. Don't hesitate, just book this place. You won't regret it.
