Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesMy only feedback would be that the bathrooms could get messy quickly; they could have been attended to more, but nothing out of the ordinary.
I loved this hostel. The staff and volunteers were super friendly, and so were the other travelers I met. It's a short walk to the beach, and a decent walk into town. I was able to get around fine without a car or moto. I had a private room, which, for the price, was awesome. I would definitely stay here again.

BrazilNothing really obviously in life there's always room for improvement more lights in the dorm maybe charging points by every bed like in other hostels with a little shelf for your phone, water, book that sort of thing.
The owners were extremely helpful & always ready to suggest place to go & thing to do.

United KingdomLove this place
Have stayed here before and will stay again! This place just has such a good vibe going: lots of space for everyone to chill, a big, well equipped kitchen which is a hub of friendly guests, stable internet for working, a little 'pod' bed with own fan which feels a luxury because you can step aside and sleep any time you want, not possible in other dorms. Best of vibes going out to the owners for making this hostel a true Pura Vida experience : )

United KingdomNo designated smoking area which means people can smoke anywhere, in the main kitchen area and on the main terrace by the dorms. This is very problematic for someone who doesn’t smoke at all. Disturbing construction site noice from the neighbourhood which isn’t the owner’s fault of course.
Good location, with a supermarket around the corner. Walking distance to the main beach. Absolutely amazing volunteers: Miriam, Noe and Marcus make this place super welcoming.

South AfricaI think the kitchen should have some lighters that allow you to light the stoves from a distance, as it makes a really big flame and is a bit dangerous to use a normal lighter. The area around my bed was also quite dusty, which I think could be cleaned a bit better.
The owner is really friendly and the hostel is just a few minutes' walk from a quiet part of the beach, which is great. There's a well-priced Soda around the corner with great food, and the hostel is in a quiet area. I really liked that the beds had curtains, charging ports and fans!

GermanyIt is a little outside of the village and here and there it could have been a bit cleaner, but that did not really bother me, it's wasn't dirty!
What an amazing hostel! The open kitchen, where you feel like you are almost preparing food in the jungle, the comfortable seating/laying area on the upper floor of the hostel, and the owner is a super friendly and chill dude!

HungaryI booked a quiet, private room with bathroom. It was spacious and comfortable. In the shared kitchen I could make breakfast and dinner easily. The place is not in the center, but I prefer to stay a bit far from the buzz. Still it is an easy walk to get there or come back. Beach is 5 minutes walk.

CanadaCould definitely be a bit cleaner, my room had some black mould in it. The kitchen outside is nice but some things should be replaced. Doesn’t look as nice as the pictures online.
The 5 minute walk to the beach is ideal and the property is about a 10 minute walk from town which allows for more animals to be seen! Very friendly and accommodating owner and volunteer staff. Great laid back vibes and made lots of friends! Cold showers are very nice due to the heat. Felt very safe at the location as a solo female traveller.

CanadaA really wonderful place to stay! I ended up booking more time because I didn't want to leave! Super affordable for the area, staff and people staying there were very friendly and interesting to talk to. Great place for a solo traveller. You can see monkeys in the trees around the hostel, and it's a short walk to the beach or to town. The kitchen has what you need, and is a great atmosphere for conversation. Enough bathrooms and showers that you don't need to wait around for one. There is a convinience store right beside the hostel that has fruit/ vegetables etc. Muchos Gracias/ merci beaucoup!

This is a beautiful hostel with plenty of lounging space, a lovely garden and a huge outdoor, palapa kitchen. The guys who own it are super friendly, the new baby and dogs a bonus : ) and the whole vibe very laid back and warm; I have stayed in many of the hostels in Samara but would definitely rate this the best stay : )

South KoreaDormitory bed - it is all wooden and not the most well-maintained in terms of its cleanliness. I found spider webs and dust on the floor in my bed cubicle. Also, because of the extremely humid weather in Samara, the wood just in general didn't make the experience feel like a fresh one. Also be aware that there is no AC in the property. Each dorm bed has a small fan that blows on you. Kitchen - The kitchen space is nice but there are not a lot of ingredients - I only was able to find all seasoning, salt, and curry powder.
Location - it is about 5-10 minute walk from the Samara beach Friendly staff and guests - super easy to talk and make friends! Not only the kitchen area is sociable, but the second floor where the dormitory rooms are is equipped with beds on the lobby, which makes it easy to chat Cute dogs and a cat at the property!

Czech RepublicSMOKING. People smoked everywhere - kitchen, common area, everywhere. For me as non-smoker that was a big problem. I hate that smell and when you eat breakfast and somebody smokes right into your face is not pleasant. Or when you wake up to a smell of cigarets. There is one bench for non-smokers, but the wind always blew the smoke there.
Beds are separated so you have privacy. Really well equipped kitchen. Staff kept bathrooms clean. Grocery store right behind the corner.

United StatesHmmm, I guess it’s really just that I wished for a more social atmosphere, but that’s not the hostel’s fault since they provide a lot of common spaces to hang out.
I liked that the location was a bit out of the center of town, and once I discovered walking to town via the beach, that made it even better. I liked the hostel - it always depends on who I meet. For the 3 nights I was there, most people were not that interested in being social, but I did meet a few people on the last day who were friendly. Oh and I loved the kitty - I don’t know how she survives the heat with so much fur!

GermanyThe hostel turns off the kitchen during the night and turns it back on between 7:30 and 8 am. So if you’re an early bird who wants to have breakfast earlier you might not get it. After asking they wouldn’t change it either for me. That’s why I probably would go to another hostel next time.
It’s a good location to meet new people because they have a chill out area where almost every time there are others to hang out with.

AustraliaNo hot water, but we didn't mind. Might be a bit out of town for some but we had a car so it didnt bother us. Initially a bit tricky to find as there are no signs but common sense gets you there (it's down the road behind the supermarket).
Tim and his wife were really nice and helpful, the shared kitchen are was a cool place to cook and hang out, room was comfortable and wifi was good. Quiet location near a supermarket and town was close.
