Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Me and my sister had a wonderful time at Casa das Ilhas. We did amazing hikes, thanks to the owner Katelijne, who indicated the routes on our phone and arranges the transfer to the starting point of the hike. That was really great! Each evening we enjoyed a tasty dinner after a long day of hiking. The rooms are basic but contain everything you need, including a beautiful view and a very comfortable bed. We would definitely come back!

ItalyWe really liked the hospitality and the care that Katelijne has for her guests. The host helped us organise the various trekkings that we did, and told us which were the best ones for our level. The food was very good, breakfast is very generous and you also have the possibility to have lunch at the table or as a picnic (usefull if you are planning a long walk). Dinners are all together and the food is high quality. If you want to feel at home this is the right place for you. The new added pool is just what you need after a tiring day, and the view will just blow your minds. To get to the hotel there is a bit of a walk, but there will be people helping you out with your luggage, and the beautiful view and great hospitality are absolutely worth it. The island is gorgeous and the stay at Casa Das Ilhas is a must!

Helpful owner and staff. Food and drinks on an honesty box system. Table d'hôtes where people mix and socialize during breakfast and dinner. Homemade jam and yoghurt at breakfast.

PolandNot for everyone – but for the right kind of traveler, it’s exactly what you’re looking for. You can/have to fully disconnect here: both thanks to the remote setting and the limited Wi-Fi (available only in the common area).
A perfect place for those who know why they've come to Santo Antão – and who value atmosphere and simplicity over touristy attractions. Ideal base for hitting the hiking trails – the location is great, and Katelijne is super helpful with organizing routes or transport...or anything you need. You can really disconnect from the outside world here. Bonus: amazing view from the window :)

Everything was so nice, from the landscape, the immersion in nature and above all the people at the property. We felt welcome even before we arrived and we were part of the family the moment we passed the door! Our host is extremely caring and ensures that each guest gets the suitable guidance for their activities on a daily basis. We loved the dinners with the other guests and the sharing of experiences. The food was deliciously prepared. Nothing was overlooked!

Stunning location, in the mountain (you have to walk 10-15 minutes to get to the house); Kathelin's permanent availability to help and advise on whatever questions we had; Welcoming and efficient staff; Delicious, carefully prepared, breakfast and dinner; Overall, a great home-like feel atmosphere, with very nice guests from different countries.

PolandI loved this place surrounded by bloomed sugar cane with amazing view on Paul valley. The host Lady is very busy but also very helpful and easygoing person. I was advised about few really nice trails I had no idea those are existing and also shared taxi with other guests. Meals are delicious for fair price. To avoid disappointment it's good to know about general problems involved in Cape Verde like water or electricity limitation. It should not be a problem for a typical hiker.

United KingdomExcellent location, with a beautiful landscape, immersed in nature. Upon inquiring about transport from Porto Novo (where the ferry takes you) to the accommodation, the Casa das Ilhas staff kindly arranged an aluguer (minibus and main public transport in the island) that took us all the way to the accommodation. As there is no drivable road access from the road to the accommodation, the staff has also provided someone who helped us out with the luggage. The accommodation is located in the most beautiful place, overlooking the valley. The wifi worked fine. The breakfast and other optional meals were in group with the rest of the travellers. You can arrange the breakfast time though. Casa das Ilhas provided dinner (approximately 12€): you can ask vegan or vegetarian. I am vegan and my friend is vegetarian and the food was great and plenty. They do a different dish every time but you won't be choosing from a menu. It is what they give you and it is mostly done with locally produced products. Absolutely recommend. It includes drink, main and dessert. Although I think the dinners were a bit pricy for the local prices, it is absolutely worth it, especially as the accommodation is located in a remote place, it can be quite useful to have dinner in Casa das Ilhas as it can be quite of a walk to the next restaurant. There are snacks, drinks and coffee that you can take whenever you wish to, note it down and pay in the end. The staff was very useful providing information and maps of the different hikes that can be done in Santo Antao. The outdoors space is good for socialising, whilst enjoying the magnificent landscape. I really recommend Casa das Ilhas!

The location and the host of this stay are both excellent. Fantastic views, you really feel on top of the world. Katelijne is very helpful and gives wonderful suggestions to do. We have never been treated beter at a stay. The dinner is lovely and an excellent way to meet people. The staff is also very friendly.

BelgiumThe room we had was rather basic and a bit dark but it is not the place to be spending much time in your room. It’s too beautiful outside! We didn’t mind it at all. Water pressure was low but since we are on a mountain that is just the way it is.
Amazing views! The location: great start for the best hikes around the island. The owner Katelijne is a great source of information. The food was great and we liked that we all ate together at one big table so we got to know one another. There is a fridge with drinks and snacks at a very affordable price. WiFi was good too. The
United Kingdoma full door between the bathroom and bedroom would have been nice, but we adapted to the space and that's a small moan for what was an otherwise fine stay.
Well, the view here are outstanding, like seriously impressive and worth the hike up the many stairs to get to the place. The host Katelijne, is possibly the most helpful and informed person we've ever had the pleasure to stay with, she has a direct no nonsense but helpful attitude, with some dry humor. The communal evening meals are all served at once, you're called to dinner, you meet your fellow travellers, it's informal, tasty and Katelijne basically sorts out your treks and adventures for the next day, sorting transport, suggesting walks, views, places to eat etc. Her suggestions, tried and tested were perfect for us. She works closely with the local community to ensure they get a fair wage, and treatment, which means she knows just about everyone and anyone there is to know. If it's possible to sort it out Katelijne will, although i suspect her patience may run thin for a demanding guest. Lucky most of us were very happy to take such good natured informed suggestions and our days trekking etc were perfect and i mean perfect with her support. The rooms are fine, quiet at night, beds comfortable, linen clean and fresh some handmade soap in the bathrooms, the water pressure is what you would expect from a small community halfway up a cliff face, but the water is hot even if the pressure is low. Bathroom is a little small, if you're on the larger size, but we worked it, our room only had half doors between the bedroom and the bathroom, so if privacy is important, consider asking about this ( the other rooms may be different), Staff were charming, helpful and efficient in that laid back Cape Verdean way, the view right outside our room was directly down the valley, a stunning gorgeous way to start or end the day. The place is surrounded by steep terraced gardens, growing produce you eat, and there's plenty of flowers and interesting plants everywhere, a few friendly dogs lounge in the sun. Excellent fresh breakfasts. The view,...

AustriaJust a small bed with a too soft mattress. The shower is pretty small. Due to the lack of space, breakfast and dinner is taken at a long table, together with the other guests. I would have liked to eat alone and in silence. A stronger light for reading in the bedroom would have been great.
After traveling the whole world I have to say that this is one of the most magnificent places that I have stayed in. I saw the Casa das Ilhas 15 years ago and it was always on my mind that some day I would come back to Santo Antão to stay here for some days. The location is 10 ++++++ Kathleen, the Belgium owner, makes sure that everything is running smoothly. The scenery around the accommodation is simply breathtaking. I spent 4 days just sitting in front of my room, taking in the view, the smell and sounds of nature. At the beginning of December the temperature in my room was constantly a comfortable 24°. The staff is very polite and well trained. I loved it that it was so quiet. No sound of TV, no blaring music....just the sound of nature. Even the staff talked in a low voice and also the other guests were quiet. It had the quality of a spiritual retreat ! The taxi ride along the mountain road that Kathleen booked for me is one of the most beautiful journeys on this planet ! I hope to be back soon for a much longer time to chill and recharge the battery.
