Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Cape VerdeI have nothing to complain about
Staying at Casa Marisia was honestly the best choice I could have made for my days on Fogo Island. Everything was so well taken care of — from arranging my transport to organizing a guide for the volcano hike, they made everything easy and stress-free. The staff are just the sweetest people, always kind and welcoming, and they really made me feel at home. And the food… wow, absolutely delicious, every meal was a highlight. If you’re reading this, don’t think twice — book a room at Casa Marisia, you definitely won’t regret it.

SwitzerlandAll Great!
The whole village was buried by lava in 1991. The village collectively decided to rebuild. Thus the location, next to Pico do Fogo, is otherworldly. Like Mars. So, that is the setting. We met Mountain Guide Mustafa, one of the proprietors. Coolest dude ever. He has heck of a life story to tell. Casa Marisa is rustic and Perfect considering the wild location. It is not easy to build on hardened lava. I absolutely recommend staying at Casa Marisa. Awesome Place! And try climbing Pico do Fogo, or the other easier hikes. Or the myriad other activities offered.

SwitzerlandHotel in an extraordinary environment, with a beautiful garden and outstanding view. Everything is well organized and clean. The food and wine are on a high quality level, very friendly staff. The hotel has its own guides for the hikes, everybody involved to the business (owner, staff, guides) did a great job. The people at this location are hard working and offer a quality which is beyond normal cabo verde standards. The owner Marisa is a good leader and her husband Mustafa did a lot for the environment, like a new ladder to access the caves. Special thanks to Carlos Fernandez, the guide and wine farmer, who brought me to Pico de Fogo and the caves and showed me around the island the next day. I can definitely recommend him as a very experienced guide.

GermanyThere are too many things to name. Mustafa is the best host ever who puts so much care into making sure the guests have their best experience! We arrived early (at 8am) but were able to check in and our room was amazing (bungalow and the hammock on the top with volcano view) Mustafa was so kind to recommend us so many activities (mountain biking, wine tasting…), arranged our hike to the volcano, allowed us to use the shower even when we already checked out, made sure to help us to get to the airport in time for the flight… Fogo is such an amazing island, but what we miss the most is our stay at Casa Marisa :)

Location, location, location, the staff, the food, the funco's, the stars at night, its another world. A unique opportunity to sleep in a vulcano landscape. We had hot water and internet (4G) connection (esim) in our funco. Most of the people come here to climb the pico, we didn't, but there are enough other options for walking, cycling, etc. Try to rent a car if you come here, so you can drive to see the most wonderful sceneries. The owner Mustafa is the most helpfull, always there to answer your questions and help you with anything.

NetherlandsDue to the volcano magma heath underneath in our particular bungalow it appeared to be impossible to take a shower. It was too hot! However, we were kindly allowed to take a shower in another room. And this ‘inconvenience’ is also part of this very special place!
Wonderful, special and unique spot. Unbelievable how Mustafa and his team created this place!

United StatesFirst I will like to give a huge Thank You to the owner of Casa Marisa for his extreme kindness. Our luggage was missing when we flew to Fogo so we continued our trip to Brava and 4 days later when still in Brava the airport called saying they have our luggage, the owner of Casa Marisa was very kind to drive to Fogo airport to get our luggage whilst we were visiting Brava. When we got to Casa Marisa our luggage was there ready for our check-in. Our visit at Casa Marisa was spectacular! It is set with the view of the volcano. We stayed 3 nights and had plenty of activities to do. We stayed in a bungalow and relaxed at the hammocks on the roof in the early evening taking in the views. The meals were delicious! Every staff member was very helpful and kind. I highly recommend staying here.

We had our own funku with roof terrace and Pico do Fogo view. Outside simple gym, big restaurant with outside and inside space and pool table. Beautiful cactus garden. The food was delicious and plenty, home made from local ingridients. Owner very cooperative and knowledgable, organizes trips and mountain guides. Location just perfect.

LaosThe water pressure wasn't great and our door was broken, and woke us up at night - I fixed it the next day.
Great unique spot. Definitely recommend it, it is worth coming to Fogo just to stay there. We loved the chill spots on the roof with hammocks. Very friendly and helpful owners.

FranceIt is not really something I didn’t like but more something to take into account, it is quite expensive to go back to town on Sunday’s as no Aluguer are running. When you are a big group it might be ok however as a solo traveler it might be something to consider.
The location was stunning. It located in the cratère which make you able to visit easily the volcano. There is a lot to see around the hotel and the hotel itself is worth the trip. I unfortunately wasn’t in the little traditional houses as it was for bigger groups but the rooms were also nice. It was really hot because the heat from the lava is still transpiring from the floor. The food was also super good!

Mustafa and his wife are great, passionate hosts with very interesting stories to tell the world. They helped us with EVERY SINGLE STEP of our journey in Fogo Island. They arranged us (we were a group of 4) transport for 60€ from Sao Felipe even though it was quite late at night! They welcomed us with a delicious dinner and Mustafa took his time to explain us everything about the area and about hiking options and climbing the volcano. Casa Marisa organised our group a great, professional guide for a price of 80€ - we recommend getting a guide, the hike is much easier and more enjoyable and all guides have plenty of interesting facts to share with the visitors. Casa Marisa looked after our luggages for 2 days when we travelled around Fogo after we left for a trek to Mosteiros. They then picked us up from Las Salinas and brought us all backpacks for a very convenient price. Mustafa even helped us with a bag we lost on the way (it was entirely our fault, we were distracted by the beauty of Salinas). We could not recommend Casa Marisa 2.0 and its owners more. A great place to stay!

BelgiumIt is an oasis at the foot of the volcano. So much work and soul has been put into building and running the place that it is impossible not to fall in love with it. It is simple accommodation which has everything you need. The food is great and always available. The staff are incredible - Mustafa made our lives so easy by organising our transfers, guide, hikes, and giving us advice and help - he even gave us his card when we left in case we had any problems when travelling around the other islands. Casa Marisa is a cornerstone of the community and you feel like you are part of it while you are there.
