How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewKasa d'Vizin is an amazing place in a wonderful island in a great country. In the hotel they offer good advise to visit Santo Antao, and also they provide help when you need it. In my case, after my air company had lost my luggage, Ruben, the manager has been patient enough to let me call every single day from the hotel to the companies and the airports to track where my suitcase could be. He also helped me to find the medicines I needed and where left in the luggage but, most of all, he listened, he cared and he provided comfort. Beside that, Kasa d'Vizin is in the middle of the amazing Vale de Paúl, a place everyone should visit in his or her life. The hostel provides with excellent dinner, and the breakfast are huge, hand-made by those magnificient ladies and served in a terrace with sights to a heaven-like landscape. Guys, you are the best! Muito obrigado, Ruben, os meus parabéns para voce e para as senhoras. Tenho saudade!
Absolutely nothing to complain about.

Verified reviewThis place is so magical.. the rooftop is really the most amazing view of the valley at sunset. Value for money hands down this is the spot to be if you’re hiking a few days in Paul. They have a bar upstairs with food and drinks, super fun and friendly staff. Food is really good, vegetarian but hearty.
No hot water :) if they could have hot water this place would be a 10. After a long day of hiking that really was not fun to have a cold shower. But I still very much enjoyed this place.
Hi Jenny, Thank you so much for your kind words and for sharing your experience with us. We're delighted to hear that you found the place magical and enjoyed the views, food, and atmosphere. It means a lot to us! I'm sorry to hear about the issue with the hot water. We do have hot water available, powered by a solar water heater, with an electrical backup for cloudy days. Sometimes, if multiple guests are showering at the same time, the system may take a little longer to recover. It’s also possible that it was just one of those rare cloudy days and the electrical back-up heater wasn't turned on. If you had let us know, we would have been happy to check and resolve the issue for you. Your feedback is valuable, and we’ll make sure to remind our guests to reach out if they experience anything similar in the future. We’re so glad you still enjoyed your stay!

Verified reviewUnforgettable views from the room and terrace. Quiet and peaceful, only beautiful birdsong waking up in the morning. Perfect for access to hiking trails and for seeing and experiencing authentic life in the valley. Best breakfast I have had :) and delicious food at dinner too. Warmly recommend!

Verified reviewThe location at the beginning of the Paul valley is perfect for some nice hikes. You can even book a guided hiking tour through the hotel. Our appartement was very charming & thoughtfully equipped. We had everything a traveller needs. The rooftop terrace was a lovely place to stay & the team served very good food - eventhough we are not vegans. ;-) It was very generous to have free supply of drinking water & fruits which we appriciated a lot. Hannelore & the team were very friendly, especially Ruben was very attentative & easy to talk to.

Verified reviewHannalore was so helpful - both before we arrived (arranged a taxi with 2 days of touring around the beautiful area). When we arrived 3 out of 5 of us were unwell and were especially well looked after. The location is fabulous as was the food. So beautiful - we were lucky to have perfect weather.
I can't think of anything!

Verified reviewBeautiful property, very well run by Hannelore and her friendly professional staff Superb views from the roof terrace, beautiful room, enjoyable breakfast (particularly the lentil pancakes), good WiFi, laid back vibe and we also enjoyed the dinner very much. The property specialises in vegan food. As a vegetarian I enjoyed it. My only criticism overall would be the room and dinner are a bit overpriced (for backpacking not short holidays) although with only a handful of rooms I understand this. If you don't want to dine on the roof terrace, which is very enjoyable, you can always go elsewhere. Overall, a lovely place to stay which perfectly compliments the absolutely outstanding Paul Valley.

Verified reviewKaas d’Vizin is a beautiful stay in the mountains, the room is very spacious, was super clean and is nicely decorated just as the whole house is. Very enjoyable rooftop restaurant with nice view on mountains. Food was absolutely great, all vegan which we did not know and honestly did hardly notice! Very friendly staff
Some noise at night but earplugs were even present to tackle that

Verified reviewNicely decorated and practical studio in a stunning location, especially convenient for hikers. Very helpful and friendly staff, providing us with plenty of good advice. It makes an excellent base to explore the island.
Hot water supply is sometimes limited in the area. The mattress was too soft (for our taste)

Verified reviewThe owners, Hannelore, a Belgian lady and her Cape Verdian husband, were exceptional in reacting to any question I had before my stay, While I was very happy with Casa Cavoquinho, further up the valley, when I arrived, this property never answered to any question before my arrival, and I was not sure whether they are even open. Hannelore always answered and gave me reassurance, which I will always appreciate. Very nice property in a small village near the coast, great small room, wonderful roof terrace for breakfast. I was the only guest for dinner (no other place in the village) but was provided with a great meal.
Nothing really, The food is vegan, just for everybody to know. The dinner was delicious, for breakfast I would have preferred something more hearty, but it was very much OK..

Verified reviewI just finished my second stay at Kasa d Vizin as a solo traveler, and it was just as fantastic as the first time! Nestled in the stunning Paul Valley, the views are breathtaking and the peaceful atmosphere makes it the perfect spot to relax and unwind. The guesthouse itself is comfortable, clean, and charmingly decorated, with a laid-back vibe that instantly puts you at ease. My room had everything I needed to feel right at home. I was pleasantly surprised by the vegan meals; even though I don’t usually eat plant-based, the food was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. Breakfast was a real treat and the perfect start to my day. The staff were friendly and welcoming, always ready to offer great tips for exploring the area and ensuring I had everything I needed. Their recommendations truly enhanced my experience. Overall, Kasa d Vizin is the place to be when you’re in Santo Antão, regardless of your dietary preferences. I left feeling refreshed and can’t wait to plan my next visit!

Verified reviewCan't speak of this place more highly: - Absolutely incredible hospitality. The owners ensured that we had accommodation at every point of our trek across the island, calling numbers and going out of their way to make sure that we had certainty in our travel plans. They also had really helpful handouts and more than enough information on neighbouring trails and activities to do. - Beautiful rooms. Extremely clean, super comfortable and very well furnished. - Great food. We had a delicious dinner and breakfast and it was a welcome change to have vegetarian food. Overall, you NEED to stay at this place if you visit the Paùl Valley!!!! We were so impressed. The owners are absolutely amazing

Verified reviewOur stay in Kasa d'Vizin was above our expectations. Beautiful, comfortable, clean studio in a new guesthouse. The hosts and the ladies preparing and serving the food were absolutely nice and helpful. We were allowed to check in earlier on arrival and check out later on the day of departure. Stunning view over the Paúl valley from the rooftop terrace. Hike from Cova crater down to the guesthouse is a must despite the muscle pain and sore toes on the following day :) Definitely recommended!
Frogs entertaining us with their singing during the night. Anyway, we got used to it by the second night and they are part of nature, of course.

Verified reviewThe room, the view and the helpfulness of the staff. The island itself is also an absolute must see, and local people really friendly and helpful
The hotel was listed as having "Vegan and Vegetarian options". However when we got there we were told it was a Vegan hotel, so no animal products and that there are no restaurants in the village and nearest restaurant is 30min walk downhill. If the hotel had made that clearer we would have chosen a hotel where we could enjoy fresh fish which is amazing in cape verde. Still, this didnt take after from our stay!
Hi Benjamin, happy to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. Sadly, booking.com doesn't offer the option to indicate that we are a vegan hotel more clearly. The text on booking.com is generated by the application based on some questions hosts need to answer. But many reviews here on booking mention that we are a vegan hotel. And everyone is free to eat what and where they want to. There is a restaurant, Beth d'Kinha, 2 minutes walking from the hotel. A twenty minute walk down the road is Vila das Pombas with many restaurants or 20 minutes walking up the road, you'll find Château Georgette. We would have been happy to recommend you any of these restaurants (they are also listed in the information folder in the rooms) and we could have handled the reservation and transport if you would have informed us that this was an issue for you. The majority of our guests (over 95%) aren't vegetarians or vegans, but enjoy the food nonetheless. I can fully understand that this isn't for everyone's taste, but dinner at the hotel is completely optional and on request only. The daily changing three course dinner is always written out on the blackboard on the rooftop terrace.

Verified reviewI spent one night in the single room but I was happy to see that it had a double bed (in which I slept as a baby). As a female solo traveller I find it very important to feel safe and I did feel very safe at Kasa d'Vizin. I was able to enjoy the terrace and the view and was served a very tasty dinner after. At breakfast there is lots of choice and I was told I could take anything I wanted to eat during my hike. I also refilled my water bottle for free. In my room I found a document where I could list my food allergies. I myself don't have any but I found it very thoughtful as I do have relatives with food allergies who sometimes struggle on holidays.
The kitchen staff (which is absolutely lovely!) doesn't understand English but that's really nitpicking as this is common in Cape Verde and things such as Google Translate exist to make communication possible.

Verified reviewBeautifully decorated and comfortable room with a lot of attention to detail (loved the Cape Verdean art!). Also the staff was very kind and welcoming. Because of this we felt right at home. Good information and help with planning our transport. Dinner and breakfast was delicious!
That we only could stay for one night.
