How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewStayed one night and very pleased. I did the walk from the airport and yes about 20 minutes flat. The room was clean and the A/C worked well. Great location, right near the square. I really liked the spacious balcony. Breakfast provided and on the more basic side but still fine to start the day.

Verified reviewOne of the best hotels that I have stayed in. Everything was clean and comfortable, The location is perfect just a few minutes to the beach, the city center, airport (by car or taxi). The owner Ulisses was the one who made the stay 10/10, he is very helpful, friendly and kind. Do yourself a favour and stay here the next time you visit sao filipe
Thank you for the review. You are so kind. It was my pleasure hosting you. I'm hoping to see you in Tunisia soon enough.

Verified reviewA very comfortable stay - warm shower, aircon and shutters on the windows meant it was certainly one of the most comfortable places I stayed while travelling in CV on a budget. No complaints!

Verified reviewComfortable bed. Good location (close to everything). It was clean. I was able to leave my bag for a few hours after check out.
Very little communication. The girl who let me in just showed me my room and that's it. If staff doesn't speak english maybe it would be a good idea just to leave some info in the rooms (what time is the breakfast and where it is, wifi password, check out time etc.) I didn't get any of this info. But luckily still got some breakfast at 9am on the terrace upstairs. The door locks. Wtf is that. I woke up in the middle of the night and saw my door open (just a little gap) and it is really scary situation when you are solo traveling woman. I made a conclusion that I just didn't close my door properly (the lock from inside is kind of rock science too) but all good. I survived but you just need to make sure to close that door with a little bit of force.. And the lighting in the room is pretty bad too.

Verified reviewIt has the best location: 15-20 mins walking from the airport (you won't need a taxi if you doesn't have much baggage), 10 mins to the beach and 2-3 mins to grocery shops or restaurants Also the Aluger station you will find next to the Municipal Market which is 5 mins walking from the hotel. As for the hotel, of course it seems a lil bit tired inside, but everything works: you will have a super comfy bed, aircon, free wifi with good signal and even a fridge. On the upper floor there is a dining room where you can get glasses, plates or corkscrew if you need. Also there are some rooms with nice open balcony so you can get some take away food and chill here. Also you can ask for a laundry service, which is great foe those who travel with a backpack like me As for the brekfast, which is included: nice local coffee, super fresh bread, ham and cheese, butter and even peanut butter, hard boiled eggs and fresh local fruits. The best way to start your day. And you will be lucky if the owner will be there , once he brought fresh goat cheese and papaya from the market, it was so nice that you will never get anything better even at 5 stars hotel, I mean it. As for the owner: Ulysse has perfect English which is a lil bit exotic for Cabo Verde!
It's not that new and some walls mb need a lil bit painting but frankly it's not that important compared to everything else
Thank you for your review. I wish there was some way to review clients. Great energy, open to exploring local culture and different ways of lives, and understanding of challenges that an isolated island in the middle of Atlantic faces. It was a pleasure hosting you. PS: I will be posting some pictures after some paint job. It is something we have to do every year, a few months after the raining season.

No hot water and weak internet
I don't know what happened, but we do have hot water. In fact, we do have brand new equipment. And for the internet, we have the fastest commercially available internet in the country. Please be mindful that the average internet speed in Cape verde is 10Mpbs dowload and 1Mbps upload, We have way more than that, but i do know that some days it gets slower, and it is completely out of our control.

Verified reviewThe owner, Ulysses, is a young, energetic welcoming and wholehearted man with a solid history of working and studying abroad who runs the family business himself. The dining hall where breakfast is served is spacious and airy with a fine little terrace offering a lovely view over the busy yet relaxing neighborhood. At the very belly button of downtown Sao filipe. The whole house is clean, spick and span one might say.
I was somewhat surprised to find that the hot water was not running, and would stay that way for the rest of the ten day stay. This did not seem to amount to a big deal for anyone, even though Ulysses did apologise when I asked about it. In fact it looked like the personnel asked themselves why would one want warm water to only take a shower? To speak the truth, the water was less cold than you might think. Still each time it would take a while before that gasping feeling went away. Sorry, in a couple of occasions, breakfast fell short of complete
