Good hotel - but BAD PEOPLE outside the hotel - TAKE CARE !!!

Nothing about the hotel - but the Police should get rid of these Outside Tourist Guides IMMEDIATELY !

Excellent location for eating and shopping in the beautiful town center. But TAKE CARE about the so-called Tourist Guides outside of the hotel trying to sell guided tours. I pre-payed ONE HUNDRED EURO for an agreed price of two-hundred euro covering a full guided round-trip on Fogo island including volcano visit. When walking up an volcano the guide told me being only participant that the walk was a change in schedule and the full price would be ONE THOUSAND EURO - and that he had access to a credit card machine. I decided to leave the minibus and walk all the way back to Sao Philipe. Next day the host of Hotel Savana told me that he is an authorized tourist guide and the he did NOT do anything illegal - believe it or not...

We did not always have good warm water..

This is one of the best places to stay in the historic city: in a few minutes you go down to the shops, the church, the market and the 2 museums. I think we had the best room in this old colonial house: nr. 2 on the ground floor. A huge, high room with seaview and a terrace in front, quietly situated (except sometimes footsteps above). There are a few steps: only 14 to the frontdoor, afterwards 15 to the little swimmingpool, and a few to the breakfastroom. The beds are quite good and the breakfast is generous. Everything is very clean and the people at the reception are always kind and helpful. For your eveningmeal there are a few good restaurants closeby (e.g. Tropical and Colonial). For trips to the vulcano or around the island, there are 2 agencies, or you can hire a taxi. We paid for a taxi with an English speaking driver (Edmar Alves) for these 2 half-day trips CVE 9.000.- each, for 2 persons. We can highly recommend this hotel!

Large and beautiful room with a view downwards on Sao Felipe and Brava further in the ocean. Chill place around the (small) swimming pool, perfect to take a rest in-between activities.

Shower was cold for the two nights we were there. We were told it was because of the solar panels and no sun but there was plenty of sunshine.

Lovely old colonial house, lovely breakfast and great coffee!

The room was about perfect. It was clean, with nicely arranged furnishings. The rooms were nicely arranged around a small pool and courtyard area. The staff were friendly, helpful and always cheerful. The location was very nice, we ate at very good restaurants that were just minutes walk from the hotel. They packed a wonderful to go breakfast for our early morning flight. We would highly recommend The hotel Savana for your Sao Filipe stay.

    Everything was great!

Great location and great old colonial building with lots of light! We had room 1 (one of the big rooms on the front) and it’s lovely. We had only cold water but they offered another room or use the shower in another room. We chose to stay in the same room but shower in a room with hot water. The big room is really nice. They know about the water issue and are working on it. Nice little pool with beds or chairs. Several places to lounge with view on Brava. The staff is very nice! The manager is super friendly (French). The breakfast is good.. anything you ask they help

Everything was really good, only point of improvement may be water temperature (warm is not really warm, but lukewarm), but this seems to be a general issue in Cabo Verde, not just this hotel!

Very nice building, in colonial style of the town (which is on the tentative Unesco world heritage list!). The staff are very friendly and helpful, we had a really nice time! The room was very large and spacious, and we had windows on the street side (facing the sea) with amazing views.

A lovely guesthouse with charm right in the city center. The staff speak English and French and are very kind and helpful. They even prepared me an early breakfast bag for my hike to the volcano. Very much recommend Hotel Savana for a stay in Sao Filipe.

If you expect the hotel to be at the same level as a hotel in Tokyo or Paris for example, you may be disappointed. In Cabo Verde, it is not normal for hotels to give you tooth brush kits for example, and lots of running hot water is hard to come by. There is only one gel provided for hair and body, and it smells really good.

I have stayed here twice and really enjoyed it. The views from the public terrace of Sao Filipe are stunning. I stayed in the luxury room 10 two nights and it was so beautiful with a very high ceiling, a full two door window that opens to purple bougainvillea and the same gorgeous view as the terrace. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have tried in my life, firm but still soft. The workers are nice and helpful if you need any help planning a trip to the volcano, etc. The owner is generous and kind and the atmosphere among the staff is comfortable. Breakfast is a fancy version of a typical Cabo Verde breakfast: white bread, boiled eggs, guava jelly, Fogo traditional cheese, papaya, etc. The location is in the heart of Sao Filipe and walking distance to all the restaurants and the black beach.

Apparently Cabo Airlines did not put our luggage on the plane from Praia, Santiago to Sao Filipe, Fogo, so we had no clothes and other personal items. Due to this we extended our stay for 3 nights instead of one in hopes we get the luggage in time for the ferry journey to Brava. The staff members at Savana were very accommodating and bumped us up in room type seeing we were staying longer than we planned. They also constantly made sure we had everything we needed for our comfort. We checked out and went to the ferry agency to purchase tickets, the line was very long so instead we bought them online, we walked back to the hotel to kill some time and they offered to print out our ferry tickets for us…Unfortunately we ended up leaving on the ferry to Brava without our luggage which got to the airport in Fogo 3 hours after we arrived in Brava… We will definitely stay at Hotel Savana again if we return to Fogo.
