Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

DenmarkNothing about the hotel - but the Police should get rid of these Outside Tourist Guides IMMEDIATELY !
Excellent location for eating and shopping in the beautiful town center. But TAKE CARE about the so-called Tourist Guides outside of the hotel trying to sell guided tours. I pre-payed ONE HUNDRED EURO for an agreed price of two-hundred euro covering a full guided round-trip on Fogo island including volcano visit. When walking up an volcano the guide told me being only participant that the walk was a change in schedule and the full price would be ONE THOUSAND EURO - and that he had access to a credit card machine. I decided to leave the minibus and walk all the way back to Sao Philipe. Next day the host of Hotel Savana told me that he is an authorized tourist guide and the he did NOT do anything illegal - believe it or not...

NetherlandsWe did not always have good warm water..
This is one of the best places to stay in the historic city: in a few minutes you go down to the shops, the church, the market and the 2 museums. I think we had the best room in this old colonial house: nr. 2 on the ground floor. A huge, high room with seaview and a terrace in front, quietly situated (except sometimes footsteps above). There are a few steps: only 14 to the frontdoor, afterwards 15 to the little swimmingpool, and a few to the breakfastroom. The beds are quite good and the breakfast is generous. Everything is very clean and the people at the reception are always kind and helpful. For your eveningmeal there are a few good restaurants closeby (e.g. Tropical and Colonial). For trips to the vulcano or around the island, there are 2 agencies, or you can hire a taxi. We paid for a taxi with an English speaking driver (Edmar Alves) for these 2 half-day trips CVE 9.000.- each, for 2 persons. We can highly recommend this hotel!

NetherlandsShower was cold for the two nights we were there. We were told it was because of the solar panels and no sun but there was plenty of sunshine.

United StatesThe room was about perfect. It was clean, with nicely arranged furnishings. The rooms were nicely arranged around a small pool and courtyard area. The staff were friendly, helpful and always cheerful. The location was very nice, we ate at very good restaurants that were just minutes walk from the hotel. They packed a wonderful to go breakfast for our early morning flight. We would highly recommend The hotel Savana for your Sao Filipe stay.

United StatesEverything was great!
Great location and great old colonial building with lots of light! We had room 1 (one of the big rooms on the front) and it’s lovely. We had only cold water but they offered another room or use the shower in another room. We chose to stay in the same room but shower in a room with hot water. The big room is really nice. They know about the water issue and are working on it. Nice little pool with beds or chairs. Several places to lounge with view on Brava. The staff is very nice! The manager is super friendly (French). The breakfast is good.. anything you ask they help

NetherlandsEverything was really good, only point of improvement may be water temperature (warm is not really warm, but lukewarm), but this seems to be a general issue in Cabo Verde, not just this hotel!
Very nice building, in colonial style of the town (which is on the tentative Unesco world heritage list!). The staff are very friendly and helpful, we had a really nice time! The room was very large and spacious, and we had windows on the street side (facing the sea) with amazing views.

Cape VerdeIf you expect the hotel to be at the same level as a hotel in Tokyo or Paris for example, you may be disappointed. In Cabo Verde, it is not normal for hotels to give you tooth brush kits for example, and lots of running hot water is hard to come by. There is only one gel provided for hair and body, and it smells really good.
I have stayed here twice and really enjoyed it. The views from the public terrace of Sao Filipe are stunning. I stayed in the luxury room 10 two nights and it was so beautiful with a very high ceiling, a full two door window that opens to purple bougainvillea and the same gorgeous view as the terrace. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have tried in my life, firm but still soft. The workers are nice and helpful if you need any help planning a trip to the volcano, etc. The owner is generous and kind and the atmosphere among the staff is comfortable. Breakfast is a fancy version of a typical Cabo Verde breakfast: white bread, boiled eggs, guava jelly, Fogo traditional cheese, papaya, etc. The location is in the heart of Sao Filipe and walking distance to all the restaurants and the black beach.

United StatesApparently Cabo Airlines did not put our luggage on the plane from Praia, Santiago to Sao Filipe, Fogo, so we had no clothes and other personal items. Due to this we extended our stay for 3 nights instead of one in hopes we get the luggage in time for the ferry journey to Brava. The staff members at Savana were very accommodating and bumped us up in room type seeing we were staying longer than we planned. They also constantly made sure we had everything we needed for our comfort. We checked out and went to the ferry agency to purchase tickets, the line was very long so instead we bought them online, we walked back to the hotel to kill some time and they offered to print out our ferry tickets for us…Unfortunately we ended up leaving on the ferry to Brava without our luggage which got to the airport in Fogo 3 hours after we arrived in Brava… We will definitely stay at Hotel Savana again if we return to Fogo.
