Very friendly receptionist. Location and the Pool is good. Breakfast is also ok.

The first night we got a small room with a small squeaky bed, very uncomfortable.

Excellent location for eating and shopping in the beautiful town center. But TAKE CARE about the so-called Tourist Guides outside of the hotel trying to sell guided tours. I pre-payed ONE HUNDRED EURO for an agreed price of two-hundred euro covering a full guided round-trip on Fogo island including volcano visit. When walking up an volcano the guide told me being only participant that the walk was a change in schedule and the full price would be ONE THOUSAND EURO - and that he had access to a credit card machine. I decided to leave the minibus and walk all the way back to Sao Philipe. Next day the host of Hotel Savana told me that he is an authorized tourist guide and the he did NOT do anything illegal - believe it or not...

Nothing about the hotel - but the Police should get rid of these Outside Tourist Guides IMMEDIATELY !

    Property response:

Good morning Jensz, we thank you for your nice review and we are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. We do regret you didn't tell us the whole story about the guide but only that he was harassing tourists in the street, which is unprofessional but not illegal. The event of the excursion is properly dishonest and could have been reported to the police. Guides in Fogo are very professional but we can imagine that those who have to look for clients in the street may not be the best ... Thank you once more for sharing your experience ! Best regards Olivier

This is one of the best places to stay in the historic city: in a few minutes you go down to the shops, the church, the market and the 2 museums. I think we had the best room in this old colonial house: nr. 2 on the ground floor. A huge, high room with seaview and a terrace in front, quietly situated (except sometimes footsteps above). There are a few steps: only 14 to the frontdoor, afterwards 15 to the little swimmingpool, and a few to the breakfastroom. The beds are quite good and the breakfast is generous. Everything is very clean and the people at the reception are always kind and helpful. For your eveningmeal there are a few good restaurants closeby (e.g. Tropical and Colonial). For trips to the vulcano or around the island, there are 2 agencies, or you can hire a taxi. We paid for a taxi with an English speaking driver (Edmar Alves) for these 2 half-day trips CVE 9.000.- each, for 2 persons. We can highly recommend this hotel!

We did not always have good warm water..

Large and beautiful room with a view downwards on Sao Felipe and Brava further in the ocean. Chill place around the (small) swimming pool, perfect to take a rest in-between activities.

Lovely old colonial house, lovely breakfast and great coffee!

Shower was cold for the two nights we were there. We were told it was because of the solar panels and no sun but there was plenty of sunshine.

The room was about perfect. It was clean, with nicely arranged furnishings. The rooms were nicely arranged around a small pool and courtyard area. The staff were friendly, helpful and always cheerful. The location was very nice, we ate at very good restaurants that were just minutes walk from the hotel. They packed a wonderful to go breakfast for our early morning flight. We would highly recommend The hotel Savana for your Sao Filipe stay.

Great location and great old colonial building with lots of light! We had room 1 (one of the big rooms on the front) and it’s lovely. We had only cold water but they offered another room or use the shower in another room. We chose to stay in the same room but shower in a room with hot water. The big room is really nice. They know about the water issue and are working on it. Nice little pool with beds or chairs. Several places to lounge with view on Brava. The staff is very nice! The manager is super friendly (French). The breakfast is good.. anything you ask they help

    Everything was great!

Excellent breakfast. Lovely location. Beautiful room with fabulous view over the sea.

No hot water wasn’t great - it was hot though, so lukewarm water wasn’t too bad.

Characterful, high quality accommodation in a converted colonial house in a quiet location in central Sao Filipe. Very comfortable rooms with nice sitting area around plunge pool in the court. Excellent breakfast and friendly staff.

    Hot water could be hotter
