How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The bathroom needs major improvements. You shower but the entire bathroom gets wet and it is not safe especially for children. Also they should change the sheets right before the guest arrives because there is a lot of dust in CV. My son and I could not sleep because the dust made us itchy intensely.

Verified reviewThe owners were so friendly and attentive to everything. I had an issue so I texted her and she dealt with it within minutes. She also allowed me to transfer one of my nights from Praia to Tarrafal. The hostel itself is nice and spacious and well located :) thank you!!
Usually I like more of a social experience and there weren't many people there due to low season. Nothing wrong with the hostel though!

Verified review+Spacious, clean room with a small table/chair and a fan (room 5) +Great communal indoor seating area +First accommodation to accept credit card payment (currently a rarity for budget accommodation) +Smart lock on room, therefore no need for a key or card. Just need to remember the code given. +Very helpful and friendly reception staff who speak English +2 kitchens available to use +Aluguers/ beach/ shops etc all practically on your doorstep Note- there are only 2 shared bathrooms- personally I did not experience any issues in having to wait to use them. Water pressure can be low at times but seems a CV issue and not an accommodation specific issue.

Dont book a room at weekends. The sourrounding area is extremely loud (party music till 07:00 in the morning 😅 )

Verified reviewAmazing stuff, especially Zidane & Fica! Super friendly and helpful. The place was kept very clean especially during the day! The rooms are very big and spacious but there are no curtains/ separations in between beds, so if you take a shared dorm privacy should not be a priority. Great balcony overlooking the market. Reception 24/7. Great vibes overall!
Wi-fi was really bad! In upload especially, don’t expect to be working with this si-fi unless they change it. No large storage to keep your luggage in the room, it just stays next to your bed, more storage solutions in the huge rooms could help :) Breakfast is served in the market in front of the Hostel and it comes together with you room, only thing is that the hostel charges 500 ESC for it while if you go there and buy the same on your own is 350 ESC, and is a small breakfast after all.

The room looks just like the pictures you saw when you booked it. You gave us a 5 on cleaning but you said it was kept clean during the day in your comment and title ? We pay for 2 router plans and we have 2 extenders so in total 4 wifi networks. you must connect to all if you plan to move about in our large space. if there was indeed an issue with wifi it must have been city wide which happens once in a blue moon. There is a rolling clothes rack which has a bottom part to store bags as seen in pictures. The price for breakfast is 500 because booking charges us commission so we make almost nothing on it. Verified reviewThe staff and the manager are friendly and welcoming. Despite the narrow entrance, the place has a lot of space, good facilities and is really clean. The dorms are comfortable (except for the noise coming from the outside but that's everywhere in Tarrafal..). The (optional) breakfast is served at the market right next to the hostel and is really good.

Verified reviewFirst of all it’s all about the people ! The owner and staff are so nice, welcoming and helpful! Like they’ll get out of their way to make sure you’re all good and help you! They have great recommendations for food and places to go to! They were the highlight of my stay! The location is perfect, the dorm was comfortable and had everything that you need! There’s everything for cooking in the kitchen! Honestly it’s a great place to stay for a few days !

Verified reviewIt's a 5min walk to the beach, and has a lot of grocerie stores arround it, so it makes it perfect to save some money by buying, and cooking your food at the hostel. Everyone was very nice, and I felt very safe, personally, and by leaving my things unintended at the dorm (payed for one dorm bed). Very good experience!
It would be good to buy new kitchen utensils, like pans and pots.
