Lovely old building. Good friendly staff. Reasonable breakfast. Downstairs bar is a good place to drink and food is reasonable. Swimming pool area made a comfortable place to cool off prior to afternoon siesta!

Room was very hot (no air conditioning) at night. But that's what you get in old buildings with no air conditioning! They did provide a very powerful fan which greatly helped us sleep at night.

Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Cool pool to beat the heat. Room hot at night but good fan. In the room to minimise this issue.

    All good

Very well decorated and great property to stay on. They also provide the opportunity to book day trips to the vulcano on the island & other hikes. The pool is a great addition.

One of our beds unfortunately collapsed while staying there. The staff did provide us with a new room, so problem-solving skills are 100!

Lovely old building filled with antique furniture. Good central location in Sao Filipe. Small swimming pool (if chilly). Pleasant outdoor seating area. The owner kindly upgraded us to a room with ensuite, as someone else had been put in the room we booked.

Building works going on in the square while we were staying, so rather dusty. Bar/restaurant staff very slow. Lots of the food on the menu not available, so we gave up and went elsewhere. Be aware that most of the rooms have private bathrooms, but these are not ensuite.

I was thrilled by living in this old colonial house. The house has such charm! It is located in the best place of the town. What makes the house particularly likeable is that the owner is not some distant capitalist, but is very much present on the premises doing general repair work. Before booking, one should know that there are two rooms with sea view and balcony. They come with the disadvantage of having no adjacent bathroom. However, you have your own private bathroom - just some meters over the hall. Contrary to the description, we had WIFI in the room. There are other rooms with adjacent bathroom, however without balcony. Below the balcony is the hotel restaurant on the terrace. This is also frequented by locals. Friday night, there can be live music until very late. Depending on the number of guests, breakfast is served as buffet or - if there are only few guests - is brought directly to your table. In the latter case, there is not much selection. One should ask - e.g. for omelette.

The communication with the hotel before arrival did not work. They offered airport transfer. However, when I sent a message via booking.com with our arrival time and the request for a transfer, we got no answer. We would suggest to equip the rooms with a rack for wet towels.

The Colonial style was very authentic Rooms with high ceilings and airy Dark wood floors and furniture Attractive soft furnishings and effective fans Balcony with shutters gave view of life below and glimpse of the sea Lovely inner courtyards with climbing plants and area to sit peacefully Small swimming pool area easily accessed from my room with seating for pool snacks and drinks Staff great especially the manager

Appreciate the original style of this great old building has been retained but some rooms although very grand do not have ensuite facilities or air con However the bathrooms are private to you alone and the fans efficient

Beautiful architecture and decoration. Nice link to the history of 100 years ago. Bar was nice. Staff were helpful. Very comfortable beds and spacious rooms. Nice to have the swimming pool and terrace to spend time on.

The swimming pool needed to be better cared for.
