How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewWe arrived in the middle of the night from Praia Airport and staff waited for us. The location is really nice and central in Tarrafal. Very nice terrasses and leisure area in the hotel. Very nice breakfast! Really recommend
We had a little quiproquo for the payment because communication was super clear... but that was minor issue and was solved easily.

The lady who did our check-in was great, but our customer experience with the owner and the kitchen staff was very limited. No smiles, limited interaction during breakfast and difficult to order. A bit below expectations with this accommodation.

Verified reviewA beautifully designed hotel with redwood details that created a warm feel in the dining area and rooftop facilities. The premises was vey safe and a staff member monitored the entrance which you accessed by using a buzzer. The one bedroom room was not large and little tight for space but had a comfortable bed and coffee making facilities. The view was excellent and it was possible to view the sunset from the rooftop terrace. The owner was friendly and considerate and gave us information on hiking and supplied us with walking sticks. The breakfast was served in a covered outdoor terrace with table linen. There were ample choices for breakfast and eggs freshly cooked to your specifications. The room was probably not cleaned as often as we would have liked but on two occasions we were in situ when the cleaners arrived later in the afternoon. The hotel is near the local park and this gives it a further airy feel.

Verified reviewThe cleaning was exceptionally and done with responsibility. The location is very good. In the city centre of Tarrafal Very good Internet connection. Nice terraces to relax. Good breakfast, with the exception of eggs that could be ordered and waited for a minimum of 15 minutes to half an hour, although we tried to order even early when there were no other guests there.
We reserved double bed, and we received an apartment with 2 singles ( they said that they have only 2 apartments with double bed and those were not available for our stay). They tried to put the linen over the beds to create a double for next nights, but for us, it was not at all comfortable. The sofa from living was rather a kind of mattress over a wood structure, not very comfortable as well. Rooms don't have privacy since the entrance is done from a common terrace/ balcon. Very small bathroom without a window. Personal cold, rather unfriendly, I didn't see even a polite smile in 4 days ( but I think they are not from Capo Verde). We kindly asked for 1 hour of late checkout, and they refused even 30 minutes. The breakfast is the same every day, annoying for people staying several days.

We noticed that you stayed at our hotel in early January, and your feedback has only now reached us in March - yet, it was expected. From the moment you arrived, we noticed that you entered the hotel very upset, complaining about everything, after having experienced a hit-and-run car accident. We completely understand the initial frustration of such an event. However, even after the local police swiftly caught the offender, thanks to their efficient work, your attitude remained closed-off and unfriendly. Unfortunately, there was nothing we could do to change that mindset. We would like to emphasize that all information about our hotel is clearly outlined and well-explained on booking platforms. Anyone making a reservation should pay attention to these details to avoid later claiming they were unaware of certain conditions. There are photos, detailed descriptions, listed areas—everything is transparently provided. Thankfully, most of our guests truly appreciate their experience with us and share positive feedback. However, there will always be those who find reasons to complain—that’s just life. We know we provide quality service, and our team performed their duties with professionalism. Nonetheless, we still thank you for your stay at our hotel, as even the most challenging experiences offer us opportunities for growth. The place must be in ALL of the French guide books because there were only French holiday makers at this property.

Verified reviewThis is a lovely hotel with great outdoor space and a roof terrace with views over the beach and out to sea. Buffet breakfast is varied and good quality. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would come back with pleasure.
Only thing is that no shower gel or shampoo was provided - just two very small bars of soap
