How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewVery good location. Great breakfast. I had a very comfortable room on the 3. floor (American 4. floor) of the main building. Good restaurant in house with good traditional German food.
No elevator, which was a major problem because of my knee issues . It was very hot during my stay. The room had a small window, a fan, but no AC. The nights where unbearable since the room temperature didn’t drop much, despite running the fan all night.

Verified reviewVery good location, for station and for city centre / restaurants etc.; comfortable, and quiet. First rate buffet breakfast (variety and quality). (The whole central area of the town is beautiful - a single, great, 'period piece', amazingly characterful.)
Nothing I can think of!

Verified reviewHotel was nice, the room pretty small. Had a room with two beds but there was not room enough to make space between them, so they were just one big bed. The check-in took forever compared to every hotel I have tried, as they needed a lot of information to rent out a parking spot. Plus city tax was added to the hotel fee and had to be paid in cash. The restaurant had the fastest service on the other hand almost ninja fast 🥷 Breakfast was everything I could imagine, there was even wine chilling next to the milk!
Too many tourists compared to what I was expecting. Really close to being only tourists in the whole area surrounding the hotel and city centre.

Verified reviewGreat breakfast and location, even the city train stop was close by
The restaurant was closed on Sunday. 5 steps down to the room and the stairs to the first floor were a little dangerous.

Verified reviewThis hotel has been redecorated / refurbished recently, everything is so clean, so tastefully furnished, shower fantastic, bed comfortable. I arrived a little later than check-in due to DB trains putting me 2 hours behind schedule, but that was n9 problem for the staff. I didn't eat in the restaurant because I was too tired but the menu looked very good value. There is a cheap on-site sauna. Beer garden. The breakfast is one of the best I've had in ages with so much choice and the server is just too good and too happy for that time of the morning! I stayed in 2 rooms and the quality was consistent. The hotel is less than 10 minutes walk from DB and HSB teain stations.

Verified reviewExcellent location on the edge of the main town area and a short walk from the railway station. Access to all areas is by keycard making it safe.
The reception is only open to 20:00 (8pm), which some people may find to be a problem.

Verified reviewA well-placed hotel in Wernigerode on one of the main streets through the town. The room had an excellent bathroom and the selection at breakfast was just right for me, with very friendly staff.
Nothing at all.

Our room had inconvenient stairs leading downwards when opening the door and the room was pretty small. Other rooms however are much better situated.

Verified reviewThe room was clean and comfortable. Secure car park (for a smallish fee). The food was good. The staff were friendly. The restaurant is very popular and busy, but service was good.
Our room was on the upper floor. The stairs were steep and there was no lift. The room we had faced south and was very hot when we arrived, and no air conditioning. A notice on the website that the restaurant was closed on Sunday would be good. We arrived on a Sunday and had to walk into the town to find a meal. Not a big deal, there were plenty of places to choose.

Verified reviewLocation and price
These are not dislikes, simply advice to make your (recommended) stay more convenient. Check in is only staffed from 15:00, it’s a well refurbished old building which has no lift so beware of stairs to all floors if you’re not very fit. Although the hotel description says it’s possible to book a parking space they really mean PRE BOOK to be sure of getting one.
