    OK for passing through

Difficult to locate the hotel reception, owner was outside waiting. Requested parking but at arrival needed to park in front on the street. The room was on the third floor with no elevator in place (bit of a surprise). At ground level there was an ugly smell coming from the cellar like it was recently flooded, not really nice when entering, although on 3rd floor luckily didn't smell anything. The room was large enough but did not have a fridge of its own. there was a small kitchen with fridge you share with 3-4 other rooms,

Nice hotel for a night when passing through to your destination (Italy this time). Bed was comfy and bathroom was nice and large! TV was of a good size, although not many channels to chose from but for 1 night not that important

The description of the facilities on Booking does not correspond to reality, which is an expectations management problem in my opinon. It's not a hotel, but hotel rooms above a sisha bar, with no reception - just 24h WhatsApp connection and self-checkin. It is more like a pension where people seem to also live for longer periods seen the fridge supplies (or maybe that was due to persons working at the trade fair that week staying there). The entrance as well as the check-in automatic key box is in the back courtyard where the cars are, which might be a bit scary as a first point of contact in the dark. The proximity to the Train station (German side) as well as the 10min. walk to the train station (Swiss side) is also great, but both is through a tunnel underneath the rails - which is also a downside to be aware off. There are plenty of shops and restaurants etc. for very affordable prices, right in front in the few streets that form the center, which is very multicultural blue collar but super friendly. I found it a good, super practical and very affordable option for a short stay during the fair in Basel, but I know the region well and have never felt unsafe in Rheinfelden. This said, I'm not easily destabilised by impressions which from experience might make especially females traveling alone uncomfortable; if you are, then maybe it's not for you.

The room was relatively new, clean, nice bed, good size cupboard, table and chair, bedside table and large TV. There is a shared kitchenette (each floor of 3 rooms) with small fridge, microwave and basic cutlery and supplies in the hallway. The room (9) has a top floor view into a residential area, super quiet at night. Also there was no noise from the other rooms. There are a couple of parking spaces in the courtyard - I asked and found mine free each time. Otherwise, there's plenty of parking opportunities on the parking lots at the shops around from 10pm to 7pm, for free (paid daytime).
