Just a bit of advice - for most people, it would be a bit more convenient if you have a car. It’s a bit of a walk to the main street which would be fine for some but bad weather or mobility challenges could be a problem.

I’ve stayed here multiple times since the past 6-7years. Unfortunately cleanness is getting bad. Seems like they save money on the staff. If you have a big luggage and stay in 2ndF or 3rdF (1F/2F in Germany) then it’s a bit inconvenient, because no elevator.

The location is still great. At the outskirts of Aachen (Soers) in a historic building. A small kitchenette with coffee machine and fridge, a spacious bathroom and free parking.

We did not see anybody from the property, but we assume they saw us with webcams at the entrance. However we did check in, by code, and out with no issue.

We wanted to stay a bit outside of Aachen centre, and this turned out to be a great choice. Payment was made at an ATM like machine and once we found the correct building, the room was easy to access with a door code. Room was in a renovated carriage house (maybe?), very comfortable and clean with all the mod-cons. A small car park (no fee) is located across the street.

Advert said extra large bed, which it wasn't, second thing no one available to speak and the phone number provided for emergency didn't work. They said that I wasn't saying anything over the phone, but definitely, I was speaking, but I was getting cut short every time. The reason to call was that the security entry system didn't work, saying that it was falsch. With a kid after you, close to midnight waiting, wandering around doors, it's not something to wish for and can be very worrisome. We get in in the end, but they should fix this. Do we recommend the place? Well, yes, it was excellent except for what I described above!

The property was described as having a kitchenette and showed photos of an apartment with a microwave, kettle and kitchen sink. Our apartment was well-equipped and had everything… EXCEPT for the kitchen sink! We had to wash up in the bathroom and get water for use in the kitchen from the bathroom sink. We were expecting a sink in our kitchenette, not just a microwave, kettle and bowls etc. it was also hard to find the correct location for parking (I had to use my non-existent German to ask a local resident where I was supposed to park) and it took as a few minutes to find the correct building (we weren’t in the main house). But after we knew where we were going everything was very smooth and we would stay again!

The self-check in was explained well and worked without any major hitches. The accommodation was clean, quiet and spacious and well located with a good car park and within an easy 10 minute walk to the main bus route into the city.

Like most facilities we stayed at in Germany, none of the room could sleep more than 2 persons. With a family of 5, this required us to rent 3 rooms. Note for American travellers; German pillows contain very little stuffing and provide no support. However, this is not unique to this facility.

For those unfamiliar, the 'Boardinghouse' is basically an apartment building with some of the units being used as hotel rooms. The facility was a renovated building next to an old castle and the rooms were modern. The rooms were spacious and clean. The operator provided codes for the front door and rooms prior to our arrival so 'check in' was a breeze.

Host communication needs improvement, especially when there is no reception. I was given the wrong PIN and was unable to access the property. When I called the host number, it went to a voicemail. I then messaged the host on Booking.com app but there was not response too. Then I had to call up Booking.com customer service helpdesk to get the correct PIN. Also, WIFI code was also not found in the room and when I asked for it via the web I got a response 12 hours later.

Quiet location. Room was clean and facilities were as described. Automated check-in worked well. I had fresh towels and refill of coffee when I asked for it.
