How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewCLose to station about 5 minute walk on the flat Decor of the property is de,ightful Quiet property we had room 19 Breakfast is more than adequate in a delightful room Not too far to walk to all sights
No lift but we let them know and they gave us a room on first floor U fortunate for the hotel the local area is not the best, but that is not the fault of the hotel, care and diligence that you should be observing anyway will ensure all is good, once inside the hotel it is like another safe world

Verified reviewVery quiet, very clean and very well decorated hotel. Breakfast is nice. Hotel employees are very kind and helpful. Hotel is very close to Hamburg Central Station. And final recommendation is “The Coffee Room” in the hotel. You should definitely drink tea or coffee over there. Thank you for everything.

Verified reviewNearly everything.
It’s not that I didn’t like the property (it’s really good) but, customers must be made aware that the rooms don’t have air conditioning.

Verified reviewNice hotel with character well-suited for a night‘s stay between trains. Close to the central station and located on a quiet side street. The three of us had a room (suite) on the top floor, with a separate living room. We appreciated the little fridge to keep cold drinks in. Surprisingly good value for money. The breakfast buffet was also good.
No elevator, but carrying our heavy bags to the top floor made good exercise.

Verified reviewIt was very unique and cosy. It was clean and central. The staff was absolutely wonderful. The room was big and had a coffee machine. We also received a complimentary bottle of water. They were facilities for making tea and we had a little fridge.
Since it is a very old and beautiful building, it was inevitable to hear certain noises for example people walking/stomping in the middle of the night in the room above us and the little chandelier made some noises.

Verified reviewThe staff was very friendly and welcomed warmly. They helped with early check-in and this was very pleasing for us after walking with luggage in the hot air. The hotel is located in a historical building and designed with fine English style and glamorous details like paintings, chandeliers, wallpapers, lampshades etc. Our room was clean, cosy and adequately large for two people. The bed, pillows are super comfortable. The bathroom was small but nice, clean and equipped with elegant supplies. The breakfast was fine and tasty. It was near to train station and transportation, but far from the Harbour, museums and Hafen city that you must get in bus or underground lines.
The location was a bit problematic because of the homeless and immigrant people around the hotel. Anybody disturbed us while walking in the street but they made noise throughout the night and interrupted our sleep. I know it's not the hotel's fault but might be taken into consideration with family stays.

Verified reviewLovely, helpful staff. Beautiful old character building with antique furniture etc. Fab shower/bathroom. Decent breakfast (chargeable, I thought it was included in the room price, so need to check my booking.)
It was very, very hot. Far too hot for sleeping. Room temp was 31c for the duration. Had to open windows, despite rain showers, as well as request a fan. “Old building” was the reason given, but small adjustments would help, like having wood effect or tile floor covers instead of a thick carpet (also more hygienic) and opening windows before guest arrival. Although location convenient for central station, it felt a bit unsafe and not a particularly attractive area. A short walk away to the centre though.

Verified reviewWe had a fantastic experience during our stay in Hamburg! The hotel made us feel incredibly welcome from the moment we arrived. The rooms were cozy, clean, luxurious and perfectly located for exploring the city. We unfortunately had a small mishap during our stay. However, the hotel manager, Mrs. Heeschen, was absolutely wonderful—extremely understanding, kind, and helpful. Thank you very much for everything. This gesture speaks volumes about the hotel’s exceptional customer service and hospitality. I had a very warm welcome so that I felt very comfortable and taken care of throughout my stay. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who values friendliness, hospitality, excellent service, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Thank you once again for everything—we will definitely return on our next trip to Hamburg!

Verified reviewIt’s very clean and well maintained, almost spotless. I was impressed by the cleanliness and attention to details. The proximity is a plus! Such a great stay!
The area the hotel is located in is quite seedy and intimidating for a solo traveler especially in the evening. My friends took turns to send me back when they heard I was staying in that area.

This hotel, even though it is lovely and close to train station, is in a dodgy area and we felt nervous walking to the hotel particularly at night.
