Bathroom should be advertised as private but separate. A little out of town for those not comfortable walking (20 mins with no public transport). Definitely a budget option but good value.

Good option for walkable distance to center and practical, friendly host. Room comfortable and very clean. Bed could be made more comfortable for the “deluxe” option which includes private bathroom, however it’s not en-suite so you need to cross a public corridor with your key to use it.

Two words. Fire. Safety. If not for this one huge issue, this place would be an excellent deal for 37 Euros per night. My room was warm and clean, and same with the shared bathrooms. However, the fire safety was so inexcusably bad that I cannot recommend that anyone stays here. If I spoke enough German and understood how to do so, I would have reported this place to the city fire marshal, in my opinion it is a ticking time bomb. Here's a breakdown of the issues: My room had a door that requires to the key to unlock from the inside, this would normally be fine, however the lock was so worn out that it took me several minutes to open my door and leave my room the first time I exited. Imagine carefully turning and putting pressure on a lock in the middle of an emergency. Additionally, the door opened inwards, so it could not be kicked down. Also, the room's only window was up at the ceiling and it opened just a crack, no escape if the door lock breaks. Outside the room, there were three exits that I could find from the guest area. Two of them (including the front door) were locked inside and out. No going in or out without the key, no emergency release. The single means of egress was the back door, it had the same type of lock as all the other doors, you needed a key to get in, and if locked with a key, there would be no getting out. The key to this door was left in the lock on the outside, so that guests can use it to get inside. If someone were to lock the door from the outside, there would be no getting in or out of the building. All the windows I could see were blocked from the renovations. There is no staff in the building at night as far as I can tell, I think they live in the separate home in the back. If the back door got locked by accident, the only hope of escape would be to scream and shout and hope that the staff wake up and come to your rescue. I will not be staying here again

The place was clean and cheap, but there was one huge safety issue that makes this place a no-go for me.

The walls are so thin you can hear everything next door which for my stay was the constant sound of children screaming and crying every night! Not ideal when you need to get some sleep! A hot shower in the evening is a luxury as most of the time there was no hot water left! Not good in December after a long day working outside. The entrance is at the rear with very poor lighting and no indication how you are supposed to check in. The pension is located on a busy main road which is good for travelling however very loud with passing traffic. This wasn’t helped by the fact that my window wouldn’t close properly so that during the short periods where the children next door weren’t screaming I had to put up with the noise of passing traffic.

The trip won't be satisfied if I book somewhere else here, I think this one is the best pension in Köthen by far. Everything was good including the bathroom. I saw many complain about it's not private but they did write it on their info no?

the front door is always closed and I was asked to take my two bags via the back enterance. there is no staff available to help on time. he stays just behind the property and vanishes there. there’s no one readily available to guide you when you need something. they speak only German. the dinner option was not explained and I couldn’t get dinner as no one was available to get info from

it’s the cheapest in the city of köthen. it’s a beautiful property but the stay area is dimly lit. the kitchen is well equipped. bathrooms were clean.

Heating was turned off and it was -10°C outside. Bathroom is not in the room, you need to go outside, down thr hallway to the bathroom. I couldn't take a shower because the drenage for waste water was blocked, so the water was staying in the shower. It was really loud, you can hear the people from other rooms, so couldn't sleep. I will never stay there again for sure!
