How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Verified reviewThe staff were really kind and friendly. The room was okay overall. Breakfast was limited but acceptable.
The room was too warm, and no air conditioning was provided. I had to keep the window open, but it was still warm and noisy. Noise from outside, especially around 6 AM when breakfast preparations started, made it hard to sleep. The rating at the time of booking was unusually high (around 10), which seemed suspicious. The location was far from tourist attractions and the train station.
Dear Mr Sadegh, we have received your rating of 4 for sufficient and are very sorry to hear, that you were extremely dissatisfied with your stay at our hotel. We have checked your booking and can understand, that you booked one of our last two simple standard rooms at the special rate for booking guests for a net price of € 57.98 plus breakfast, which did not have air conditioning for this special rate. We are incredibly sorry, that you were dissatisfied with this and could not sleep well. Your comment about our rating, which obviously seemed suspicious to you from your subjective point of view, is strange and we cannot understand, what you are trying to say. If you look at the many different reviews from other guests, you should be able to understand, what kind of service is important to us and the commitment and passion with which our team do their best every day to make guests happy and satisfied. Your comment, that our hotel is far away from tourist attractions and the train station is also strange, as our hotel is located 1000m from the train station (5min by train - 18min walking distance) and 550m from the main shopping street (2min by train and 10min walking distance). Perhaps your reference is to the tourist city of Heidelberg, which is 16km away and can certainly be considered distant. Dear Mr Sadegh, we are very receptive to any constructive and fair criticism, but we think your assessment is unfair and are shocked by your comments, as they do not objectively reflect our performance, which our team ensures every day. Verified reviewWe had a great stay at this hotel. It was spotlessly clean, and the staff were exceptionally kind and helpful. The hotel seems to be family-run, and during our stay, the owners—two brothers—were personally taking care of the reception, which added a very warm and welcoming touch. They seemed genuinely passionate about providing a good experience. The location is also very convenient, just a few minutes from the city center and easy to reach. Highly recommended for a clean, friendly, and well-located stay.
The beds were quite firm, although the sofa bed had an excellent mattress and was surprisingly comfortable. Also, the elevator stops between floors, which could pose a challenge for guests with mobility issues or using a wheelchair.

Verified reviewThis is the most wonderful hotel. We have stayed here before and we love the personal treatment we are given by the owner. He helped us with information on transportation, restaurants, theaters, and even lent an Apple cable for my iPhone. You could never get this kind of response from a chain hotel: a warm welcome every time you entered the building, close attention to our needs, and a joyous friendliness which made our day, over and over again.
I wish there were more hotels like the Mack!

Verified reviewThe support was very personal and helpful. I arrived late and was guided where to park and how to get in et cetera the room was comfortable and the breakfast provided everything that I wanted.
It's a little bit complicated to get inside the property. I did get the impression that there was free parking, but that wasn't the case. I had an equipment trolley with me, but unfortunately the lifts didn't come to the same level as the room so there was a few stairs to navigate but nothing too difficult.

"Accommodation Hotel Mack for parking: Public parking is available on site (reservation is not possible) and costs €13 per day" We also provide detailed information about parking fees, spaces and charging stations for e-cars on our homepage, which are only available to direct bookers. And we can understand, that it was difficult for you to bring your luggage into the room with your camping transport cart / beach wagon (handcart) and we are very sorry about this. We would have been happy to draw your attention to this, if we had known that you were traveling with such an unusual suitcase replacement. Verified reviewvery beautiful building and rooms, nicely furnished with two comfortable armchairs and with a spacious desk. Bed were comfortable and we had access to a balcony (but did not use it). Bathroom was very nice with a large and comfortable shower (I really loved the shower!). Breakfast was delicious and fresh prepared. Staff was accommodating and helpful. Because reception is only staffed until 7pm, late check in is a little complicated but worked well. There is no fridge in the room, but a large common refrigerator downstairs where one can take what one needs and write it down to be put on the room.
We needed two keys, the first one was a regular card, the second one a bulky key hanger with a responder plus card. A little complicated to carry around. We left on a Sunday night and had large and heavy luggage. We extended checkout until 2pm, paying 25% of the room rate but we had to check out because after 3pm there was no one at the reception desk. Problem was solved by letting us leave the luggage in a back hall (not locked) behind the closed reception room. We were allowed to keep the card to be able to re-enter the hotel to pick up the luggage. It was ok but not ideal (I did not feel great about leaving my computer in an unlocked room but could not take it with me). Given that the hotel was not staffed and the room was anyway not being cleaned that day, we could have left everything in the room instead (without paying extra for late check out). Anyway, all was good in the end even if a little complicated...
