How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewDecent and clean hostel near public transport. Although the facilities are minimal, they are functional and clean (there is a kettle and tea, a French press including coffee, cutlery, plates, pepper and salt, toiletries, hairdryer, and towels). We stayed for 6 nights, which was a bit too long, but for 2-3 nights this hostel is a good-value-for-money option.
Although the online communication with the hostel was friendly and informative, we hardly saw any staff during our stay. On the rare occasions when staff were present, they did not greet us. It felt as though only the bare minimum was done to keep the hostel running. For example, we stayed 6 nights and wanted new towels, but had to pay for them. The bathroom was clean, yet very little water came out of the showers, which is inconvenient for washing your hair, especially if you have long and/or curly hair.

Verified reviewThe staff were lovely - especially Christine! The location / neighbourhood was awesome - right up our alley (quirky, alternative, gritty, charming, etc.). The hostel was close to the river where people would sit and have drinks in the afternoon/evening - which was fun and added to the atmosphere of the neighbourhoods. Lots of bars and places to eat around the area and some great vintage clothing stores. The room we stayed in was even better than the photos.
The only things I can think of is that I didn't know there was a toilet upstairs and kept using the one downstairs - maybe a sign on the door would be helpful. Some sounds carried throughout the hostel, but to be fair, that's understandable given the charm and age of the building. It didn’t ruin the stay, just something to keep in mind if you're a light sleeper or value extra privacy.

Verified reviewGood location, nice home-like property. Lock on the cabinet which is useful to keep valuables. Many amenities in the shower which was nice.
Dorm was a bit smelly due to some guests keeping their shoes in the dorm. Shower switched from hot to cold, no constant temperature.

Verified reviewComfy beds, big table to work on. Lockable drawer provided (with lock), small rail for clothes - both very useful. Easy to come and go. Worth staying here - overall would recommend.
Showers didn't drain very well and only felt comfortable to shower in one (the other looked onto an eccentric scene of miniature toys and other storage). When I arrived, there wasn't any explanation of where things were and the stuff were quite brusque. Very loud creaky door to enter the hostel bedroom which could easily be resolved with some oil - very disturbing to have especially when you know guests will be coming and going at different times.

Verified reviewI really enjoyed my stay at this hostel — everything was great and the hostel looks very cozy. The beds are comfortable, everything is very clean and tidy, and the kitchen is well-equipped.
The showers are nice, but we had some trouble with the hot water. It only lasted for about a minute before suddenly turning cold.

Verified reviewSmall hostel with cozy kitchen area.
Staff completely dropping the ball on check-in. Bedding leaves something to be desired - I've slept on more plush sailboat bunks than the mattress here. No toilet paper in the toilet. Seriously, that is the minimum that should be attended to. Absolutely no excuse.

Verified reviewPretty tiny, so didn’t really feel like a hostel at all. Definitely not a party hostel. Sleeping and kitchen/chilling zones were well separated. Even thought facilities were quite worn, it was still very clean. It’s not far from a lively area with lots of bars, so the vibe was quite amazing.
As I have mentioned above the facilities were pretty worn: showers were leaking and had a very weak water flow; taps had problems with drainage; some kitchen appliances were not functioning as intended. I wouldn’t explicitly say the area is unsafe but one night I was contemplating doing a shortcut through a dark alley but just before turning in, I saw a gutted purse on the ground and decided that perhaps it is not the best idea to go there

Verified reviewif you’re a fan of loft space and want to feel freedom while staying in Berlin you should definitely choose this hostel. I was in Berlin for exploring the city but sometimes I was catching myself thinking about staying inside for longer - that’s how good it was! and the bathroom downstairs! I’m ready to dedicate an ode to it - absolute masterpiece. thank you for having me I dream of returning here ❤️

Verified reviewThe hostel was small and cosy, the aesthetic was clearly something the staff had put thought into, the decor looked very fresh and timeless. Everything was very clean, the kitchenette had multiple flavours of tea available (and coffee I guess but I didn't drink coffee), the staff and the other guests were all very friendly. The location was very good for my purpose and in a very beautiful part of the city, peaceful enough but with plenty of cafes and restaurants and grocery stores around.
Only very minor complaints; the lock on the front door was a bit finicky (or possibly it was a skill issue), and the temperature in the dorm was a bit on the cool side for my taste.

Verified reviewWould recommend this place! Perfect location, nice quiet and as a solo-female traveller felt really safe. The staff was super chill and friendly, and alltogether very helpful. I stayed for a week and it really felt like a temporary little home. Also extending the stay was super easy and at least at this time of the year, there was a lot of space and I think only 1 night all the beds were full. The location is fantastic, in the heart of Neukölln. Also there is a outdoor market every tuesday and friday almosy right when you step out of the door beside the canal. Thank you, will be coming again!

Verified reviewThe space is not staffed accept at the check in window of 930 to 1pm. I felt lucky to get in at a time when there was someone there and it was no issue that the beds were not ready. It's a small hostel pf 6 beds and 2 double rpoms so it was perfect as it felt spacious and it was definitely quiet. (except for a super brash guest who came from another planet and woke everyone up at 1am because she didn't have an adaptor to charge her phone and she had to keep the light on because she can't sleep in the dark. We graciously tolerated her drama). I had a pleasant read in the common space and the toilets and showers were adequate for my use. The bed reminded me of staying in tatami rooms in japan. Very comfortable. On Tuesdays and I think Fridays there is a open air market that has cooked food, trinkets, produce, coffee with a great vibe. I was lucky to stay on the right day and got myself some artisan cheese from heritage cows.
