How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewHidden in forest upon a hilltop this remarkable and historic Schloss Hohenstein Hotel apears for your eyes. It is a unique location that tells its own story from just being there and absorbing its spirit. Today it has been refurbished into a romantic hotel with unique setting and luxury rooms. The perfect place for a couple get away, though it appears mostly used by locals. Standing in the court yard looking up upon a star spangled sky gives you goose bumps. Interior is a fascinating blend between authentic 1600 hundred and modern comfort. Bathroom was small but in high modern quality and at high functional level. An exquisite and beautiful experience.
While booking at Hotel Schloss Hohenstein I announced my arrival 20.30 and asked kindly to keep the kitchen open for ordering a warm meal. My son and I had been driving 800 km, but at arrival I was told the kitchen had closed at 20.00 and I could only order from a small menu. In fact I was told this was the only available menu that evening. That appeared not to be true as one guest received a well prepared warm meal 21.30 and another guest at 22.15. This made me express my undevided disappointment with the management of my arrival and reuqest. The management must change their attitude and understand that they are running a service business, where customer experience matters. Keeping rules square as a box is not supporting that. Closing a kitchen at 20.00 is first of all extremely early, and denying a guest ordering 20.30 while serving warm meals to the rest of the restaurant till 22.15 is an insult. Under the conditions my request was absolutely not unreasonable and a positive response should have been the one and only response. No discussions ... always positive!!

Verified reviewLovely building in a secluded setting. Nice bathroom and a comfortable bed. Good breakfast. The quality of the breakfast reflected the fact that this was probably a good restaurant, so if we went back we would make sure that the restaurant was open.
The restaurant is closed on Monday and Tuesday. There is no food available in the hotel, and most local restaurants are shut on Mondays, so you need to plan ahead for this. There is a small honesty bar which was helpful. We had a picnic in the room. Most of the ancillary rooms were locked up, and there were no staff around, so it was very quiet overnight.

Verified reviewTranquility, good mattresses, excellent food at both the evening paid meal and the breakfast included. A true castle experience! Lovely rooms and furnishings!
Too many steps and various levels. Not convenient with my weak knee. It would be unmanageable for someone with a cane or Walker. Make sure you have a good NAVI / GPS to find the place!!

Verified reviewThe first thing that stands out is the amazing are around Schloß Hohenstein. You're greeted with it on the drive. The Schloß itself has it's own amazing charm that you have to see to believe. The hotel staff were some of the friendliest I have ever experienced in all the hotels I've ever stayed in. They made us feel welcomed during our entire stay. The hotel restaurant is absolutely amazing! Delicious regional food, paired with amazing wines. This is the perfect place for a romantic getaway, and we will be back for another visit.
Everything was perfect!

Verified reviewIt was a quiet location not too far from Coburg.
The location was more remote than expected and the car park is 100 meters down hill. Being surrounded with trees there was no aspect. I had requested a lower room with few stairs but was allocated a turret room in a tower. This was changed to a lower room only because the fridge in the room was not working and it was a hot day. The breakfast was disappointing as it took 3 attempts to get a poached egg cooked correctly - not good from what is a highly-rated restaurant. There were small issues that need to be rectified e.g no milk in the fridge for tea in the room and no coffee in room, mugs with no handles (trendy but not practical) and no assistance offered with bags from car.

Verified reviewOur suite was very spacious and beautifully decorated & designed. We loved the furnishings and taking walks on the grounds. The breakfast was the best we have eaten in a hotel.
The WiFi was a little weak in our room, but this wasn't a problem, really.
