If you want to stay there with your pet, only certain more expensive room types are available, which van make your stay rather pricey. Depending on the location of your room it might be perfectly quiet or rather noisy. If you're sensitive to noise, ask for a quiet room!

We have stayed in the Schwarzer Bär on several occasions and have never been disappointed. The rooms are top-notch, the breakfast is superb and parking is available on site. Your pet is also welcome and they even provide you with a little snack!

Coming from North America, I felt cold in the room and without ability to adjust the temperature. However, this was the same with other accommodations as well as private homes I visited, clearly the norm in an energy-conserving environment. The heat does get turned up a bit at what I assume are strategic times.

Central location near the university, attractions, and markets. Charming historical environment. Traditional look of the hotel's lobby, which was welcoming and quaint. Excellent breakfast facility and meal quality. Very friendly and helpful staff.

There was a mix-up with our reservation which took a few minutes to sort out. (We had booked a double room but the assigned room was a single.) The "new" room's curtains had been open to the full sun all day on one of the hottest days of the year (36 degrees Celsius/ 97 Fahrenheit). So the room and everything in it was like a pizza oven, and without air conditioning. (The rest of the hotel was surprisingly chilly, we had dinner there too.) At night we opened the windows for airflow and got mosquito bites... not a great night of sleep. Oh, and at the birthday dinner that we attended there, it took the waiter forever (30 Mins...) to get the check and then, at the table in front of all guests, he proclaimed the full amount to the hostess. What a strange thing to do.

Booked a non-smoking room but, someone had smoked heavily. Had to ask for towels and a second pillow. Water was not replaced in a 3 days stay. This should be standard.

Rooms that are close to the tram stop a a little bit noisy, but not too much. Nothing else.

This historic hotel is close to the city centre, 5 minutes from the Jena Tower. The room is pretty comfortable, free WiFi works very well, and breakfast is rich.

It was a hot summer day and due to the absence of an AC the room was quite warm, we used the fan all night but still slept well. Having to pay for the parking was not a nice surprise (probably mentioned some win the booking but wasn't aware of it until check-in).

The hotel is very close to the city centre. Easy check-in. Comfortable beds in a very big room. The en-suite bathroom with shower, whilst small, had everything we needed, the de-mascara cloth was a nice touch I haven't seen before.

The staff was very friendly and helpfull ! The location is excellenet and everything is nearby on foot. Eventhought it is close to the street it was very quiet when the windows are closed so no trouble sleeping or working.

The room could have been a bit more cozy, it was a bit stiff.

Breakfast was really good. The room was ok, but the bathroom was the smallest I have ever seen. The location is good, quite central. The staff was very friendly. I had forgotten my suitcase on the train and I was therefore very happy that they had both reserve kits of a toothbrush and of razor blades to spare.

One could hear the busy road. For someone with a deep sleep that is probably not an issue.

The location was super central, although next to a busy traffic road and therefore a bit noisy (but this might have been my room alone). Generally I can recommend staying at the hotel! Amazing breakfast, nice interior, clean. PErfect

it os quite old and personal are not welcoming. For instance, they charge me three nights at the very first day.

The room was near the street it was noisy and the breakfast was not rich. We also ordered an extra bed and it was not as good as the original beds at the room.

A modern classy strucure, centrally located but easy to reach by car, with a long history and something out of time . Quality breakfast. We stayed for a week visiting Jena, other Thuringer towns and the hills.

It was very noisy outside but this is just because they are doing some buinding work on the road so it isn obodys fault. There was no kettle which is a shame. i also found a but extrange that when i asked for taxis they said it was hard to get one so i had to walk but it coudl be that Jena is not a city with many taxis.

There is some conflict between the people working on reception. Very unpleasant older lady was badly treating her colleague or employee. It spoiled the whole stay. The rest of the crew was nice.
