Authentic and charming hotel.

Great location in town, room was spacious and had a nice balcony. Breakfast was typical German fare, plenty of it and a good selection. We didn’t eat lunch or evening meal at the hotel although it did look nice. The dog ……. He travel with us and we always choose dogs welcome (sometimes they are tolerated, to get your business). Dogs are not allowed in the dining room ( we knew that before we went so no surprise there), however staff accommodate us by moving our breakfast setting onto the terrace outside, so we didn’t have to leave him in the room. On our second day it was Corpus Christy, so not only was the town up and about early (and church bells ringing) , it wouldn’t have been appropriate for us to be munching breakfast whilst this special town event was taking place just outside the hotel, but the staff did not bat an eye and said that the dog could sit under the breakfast table due to the circumstances 🫶🏻 🐾 . There are plenty of walks long and short from the hotel door for exercise etc, there are lots of bins each having a supply of poo bags for you to utilise.

The hotel is charming. It is an old German style construction and the decor matches the period. The breakfast is very good and the restaurant is one of the best in the area. There is also ample parking.

Extremely Disappointed – Double Charged and Ignored! We stayed for two nights at Hotel Goldener Engel after fully prepaying through Booking.com. I had received both a confirmation and a receipt well in advance. However, on the morning of April 16th, as we were checking out early to catch our flight, the hotel refused to let us leave unless we paid again – despite me showing proof of payment. Under pressure and with no choice, I was forced to pay over €900 a second time using two credit cards. Since then, I’ve been trying relentlessly to get my money back. Although the hotel admitted we were charged twice, I’ve sent countless emails to both Booking.com and the hotel with no proper response. This experience completely ruined the end of our holiday in the Black Forest. I am shocked by the lack of accountability and customer care. I expected far better from Booking.com and will seriously reconsider using the platform again.

Great room. Very nice restaurant. Friendly staff.

The room was good, and Breakfast was Good. There is also a supermarket available within 500 meters. Not very far from Freiburg town.

The food and the staff

Liked the vintage experience of this village Gasthaus. We like to experience the folk Germany from other times. Great breakfast with real homemade food. Decent and spacious family room.

The couch mattress not so comfortable.

Room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was excellent, staff were very attentive and helpful providing fresh hot coffee and eggs cooked to request. Lovely evening meals in the restaurant.

No lift to the second floor when conveying luggage to our room, apart from that no complaints.

Location, large room, good shower and great dining room. Lovely family running the place for generations.

No air con. Right next to church so woken by bells starting at 6am, thereafter every 15 mins! Busy road.

Good location for visiting the southern part of the Black Forest. Staff very friendly, excellent dinner and breakfast, quiet so good nights sleep.

Family room consisted of twin beds but double was a sofa bed, this was not very clear at the time of booking. Mattresses were rather hard.

Very noisy with traffic as right on the busy main road also right next to church with bells ringing at 6am so if you’re not an early riser then not recommended then was bonging every 15 minutes thereafter, quite expensive food menu we were also charged for still tap water at dinner

Good location

Dishes in restaurant are quite expensive (but delicious). Would be nice to have less fancy but cheaper options. Especially taking into account that hotel is located in the middle of nowhere. So, either big check or no food at all

The response to decorate a room for birthday was not upto my expectation

Gorgeous small hotel located beside a lovely church in the heart of rural mountainous Germany, beautifully decorated in typical German fashion, warm and welcoming. Spectacular flowers!! Very well appointed room and bathroom, excellent restaurant within the hotel and very friendly, efficient staff! Isabel was especially helpful!

Very comfortable beds, very clean, good breakfast. We had dinner at the restaurant and really enjoyed the food, it was excellent. Great location for walks around the Glottertal.

The room and bathroom are very clean but could do with an update.

Very good breakfast and dinner meals. Friendly and engaged staff. Good central location in a lovely traditional Black Forest village. Church bells next to the hotel were off during the night. Easy parking.
