How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewIt is a very nice location to really embrace the nature. make sure you have a good car as the road within the gated community can be hard so a suv would be best. we loved it there and loved spending time with the hosts. however i did feel like there were a bit too many rules in the beginning so it did not feel easy to relax but soon after we realized the hosts are very nice and friendly. would definitely return
Dear Oana, thank you for staying at Mi Hogar and for leaving your commentary. We too had a great time hosting you and spending time with you. Now, please close your eyes and imagine. Imagine that you start hosting people in your house and someone of these people start behaving badly: they spoil your bedrooms, they eat in the bedrooms and mess and dirty up everything, they drink wine in your bedrooms and, since a bottle of red wine falls down and breaks, it indelibly stain the quilt of the bed and you have to throw it away (and you did it, with your hands!), they smoke in the bedroom and the bad smell persists for a long time, or they leave without paying their extras. Imagine that the good guests are brothered by rude ones. Imagine that, among very nice and polite people, there are few ones behaving in this way (and even more badly): now, honestly, what would you do?! Would you go on hosting people, with no rules or would you put a minimum of rules for everyone, even for the polite ones? We are sorry you felt uncomfortable with the few rules we have, but it's clear that we have to defend ourselves and our good guests from this kind of people. After all, we can summarize our rules as follows: don't smoke in our property, don't eat/drink in the bedrooms, leave a security deposit. And if you consider that having dinner together is a rule... well, you're out of line! This is our distinguishing mark, something that makes Mi Hogar different from the other lodgings. In any case, nobody is obligated to have dinner here. Again: thank you for coming, we hope to host you again. Michela and Claudio

Verified reviewAbsolutely stunning home. Very clean and very nice hosts ! In the forest so you wake up to the song of birds and nature. Best Italian food I have ever had. Dinners (with daily menu changes) is served on the deck facing the forest.
It is difficult to get to and we were not warned regarding the unpaved and steep road leading to their house… avoid having a small city car … Our nights were quite warm… and while we had a standing fan it was extremely loud… a ceiling fan or a quieter floor fan would be much appreciated!
Thank you for leaving your commentary and observation. Best regards. Michela and Claudio

Verified reviewWe had a really peaceful, quiet and relaxing stay here. The area is gorgeous and it was nice to hike around the neighbourhood and just look at some of the beautiful homes nearby. We ate dinner here the first night we stayed and it was really delicious. It was nice to eat with the hosts as well, feels like a nice homestay experience. Micaela and Claudio were really helpful with information about the area and how to get around. We hiked in to Jarabacoa and it was a nice walk with beautiful scenery, it took about 1 hour to reach town. It was so peaceful at the house too, a really nice little relaxing break for us.
These aren't things we didn't like, just points of consideration for anyone looking to book. All the information is very clearly listed about this property so just read it clearly before you book to make sure it's right for you. We knew exactly what to expect because we read everything, so we had a great stay and loved our time there! - The property is quite far out of town so either you have your own transport or you have to pay about 600 pesos each way to get there. Otherwise it was a 1hr hike, which we really enjoyed as it was beautiful! - There are lots of cats! All information clearly says that. If you don't like cats keep that in mind, you will definitely see them and smell them and hear them. But the hosts make sure to keep the cats out of the bedrooms, so they're only in the living areas (and they are very cute!). - Budget extra for food as you can't bring your own. The hosts are wonderful cooks. We treated ourselves to dinner there the first night, but then planned to eat out in town the next night due to our budget.
Thank you very much for leaving your commentary, especially for all these points of consideration: we really hope they will be clarifying for our next guests. Best regards. Michela and Claudio

Verified reviewI liked the feeling of being close to nature, the dinner was very good and the house was beautifully decorate and the hosts were great, good company and helpful
I think the negative side of being so close to nature was that the property was quite difficult to locate independently and is a bit isolated
Dear Abdullah, thank you for leaving your opinion. Being completely in nature for us is a plus that we can offer. We usually meet our guests at the entrance of Proyecto Monte Bonito, so they won't get lost or disoriented (?) and usually people read and take into account our messages...

Verified reviewGreat friendliness of the owners who booked some rafting for us and gave good information about the route to the airport. The food was great and they let us come back after our rafting to have a shower and a bite to eat which we much appreciated. They really care about offering a great service to guests!

Verified reviewNice quite location. Help from host to find the lodge. Friendly host and sweet cats.
Food offered is very tasty but expensive.
Dear Tim, thank you for your commentary. All our plates are made with high quality ingredients and we prepare plates you don't find in normal, cheap restaurants around the island. Moreover, we don't find the ingredients in Jarabacoa: we have to travel to other towns and this is not for free. More: all the food (and drinks) we prepare have clearly detailed the prices, so you can decide to stay or to go to town to have your own food. Of course, you are not obligated to have breakfast and/or dinner at Mi Hogar (and indeed, you didn't stay). We really don't understand why you complain about prices: quality comes at a cost and usually people easily understand this tiny detail. Best regards.

Verified reviewIt is an adventure to get there, make sure you have the right car, preferably 4 WD. Otherwice hosts are nice, it is a family house, Mikela speaks good English and is happy to share experiences and information.
Claudio will cook you dinner which is nice but the menu is simple and pricey for what you get.
Dear Kristina, thank you for staying with us and for leaving your commentary. Mi Hogar is a private villa, open to our guests. It is located in the surrounding of Jarabacoa, more or less 20 minutes far from the city, with no supermarkets in the nearby. The food we serve at Mi Hogar is always freshly made and prepared with particular, quality ingredients we don't easily find in Jarabacoa. For this reason, we have to drive at least 1.5 hours or more to get what we need. Moreover, we try to serve something you don't (usually) find in the Italian restaurants (for taste and quality) and if you go to any restaurant in Jarabacoa, you'll spend more than having dinner at Mi Hogar, comparing the same number and quality of dishes ordered. All these points are sufficient to understand that our food is not expensive. Best regards. Mikela and Claudio

Apart from everything, the place is located about 15 - 20 minutes from the city of Jarabacoa... Excellent treatment from the owners of the place.
Thank you for choosing us and staying at Mi Hogar, even though it was only for one night. Wish you all the best. Mikela and Claudio
