Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

QatarThe room and bathroom could’ve been cleaner. The bathroom especially needs a deep clean. There was a leak beside the toilet and cockroaches in the bathroom. The beds were very narrow and short, and not so comfortable. The sheets were quite thin also, which is fine during the summer. The hotel has numerous floors and a winding staircase, and the cafe where breakfast is served is on the first floor. It wouldn’t be a suitable option for anyone who cannot climb stairs. There was an issue with my credit card payment not going through and they sent me a link to pay. Having local currency is critical in Algeria. Communication with the property before I stayed was very challenging as they didn’t respond to most of my messages. I had an issue with the lock on my door as it was stuck and the staff called a locksmith to come within 30 minutes to fix it. However if I had needed to leave it would’ve been a big issue.
I liked the staff at the front desk. While they spoke limited English, they were helpful and friendly. The location is outstanding; it’s very near to Casbah (Old Town), the coast, and the metro. Breakfast was included (tea, coffee from a machine, and cakes/pastries). There was AC in the room which is a must in the August heat. The room and shower/bathroom were small but sufficient. The building is quite old and it’s nice to experience staying in a classic style hotel. There is an open air sitting area on the rooftop where you can sit and enjoy the beautiful views.

IrelandWifi not brilliant in some parts of the hotel, but can move around and make it work. Bathroom quite small.
Staff were unbelievably friendly, always happy to help! Rooms small but comfortable, with balconies that provide a great view onto the road or over the bay of Algiers. Location absolutely perfect, and the real highlight is the rooftop terrace, which offers an amazing view of the city and is the perfect place to relax

CanadaWe loved our Stay at Hotel Afric - such a beautiful building, lovely architecture, fabulous staircase...and the owner and staff did everything they could to make our stay a great one! The breakfast was extensive (mostly bread and pastries, but delicious) - and the breakfast guy works so hard to make sure you are happy. The owner, Sofiane, went out of his way to make sure we were happy with our room and surroundings. Check out the rooftop! Amazing views, and a lovely chill set up to relax in. The Location in the casbah cannot be beat - so close to everything, so much atmosphere and just felt so special. Our home in Algiers! Thank you so much to all the staff, for everything

United KingdomWi-fi was terrible, but I was up on level 5, mobile signal is good, so if you have a local eSIM you'll be OK. Bathroom is very small. But the shower was warm and it was functional. No lift (but I knew that, so I'm just warning).
Plenty of pastries and breads available at breakfast, coffee from machine was perfectly good. Reception staff were great, helped with advice, greeted me by name every day with a smile. Rooftop space was nice, atmospheric to be up there in the evening. Location is reasonable depending on what you plan to do, very close to a Metro stop (Metro is great!).

GermanyThere was noise from the electric light of the hotel sign in front if my room. The rool was quite small and the price is exaggerated, considering that you can find lots of cheaper hotels nearby. The breakfast is just croissants and sweets, as everywhere in Algeria. No eggs, ham, cucumbers, fruits...
Good location, nice decoration, clean and neat room, friendly and helpful staff.

United KingdomBreakfast was a huge array of pastries and very good coffee but one of our group would really have liked some eggs or more protein based food This was not a problem for us but there’s no lift so don’t book if you have any mobility issues
Really helpful staff - able to arrange taxis/tour/ money changing/luggage store etc. nothing was too much trouble and some spoke English Brilliant location in the casbah, near the subway and other tourist areas. It was perfect being able to walk everywhere WiFi worked in the lobby and bedroom

EstoniaI wanted to prolong my stay locally, paying in cash. If you also plan to do this, pay attention to the double X-rate of Algeria. The local rate from your Booking form here is not any more applicable, the rate will be much higher. So - investigate this matter beforehand, not to feel cheated later...
It is a beautiful building, with 6 floors and a roof terrace. The staircase is very beautiful and goes right up to the roof terrace. When choosing the room where to stay - pay attention that there is no elevator, so - do you really want this view from the 6th floor:) Which is of course nice, once you have climbed up there. Metro station is right around the corner and Casbah in a walking distance. There is no bar (or a alcoshop nearby), but they offered a taxi to a real pub, which was greatly appreciated. Also, they found me a driver to Beni Hammad UNESCO site for a day-trip, The owner, who speaks English, gave me his Whatsapp so I could communicate with him as the need came, very helpful.

United KingdomWell we were warned about no lift. As luggage gets heavier over the trip it started to seem more of an issue to think about. En suite plumbing a little wonky. Wobbly basin, bit of water dripping from the ceiling. But it was ok.
The location is really good. Right next to the casbah and vegetable and fruit market plus near the Martyr's Square and a street of cafes for evening food. It turned out to be very near to a metro entrance at the old market hall so great for getting about. Plus there is a breakfast to get you going in the morning. The balcony was lovely just to be able to go outside a bit. The building looks very attractive inside. Beautifully clean stairs.

United StatesIf you have a rental car, you would find it difficult to to find a parking spot on the very busy street in front of the hotel. The rooms are small and if they give you a room on the top floor, it would be a physical challenge to run up and down the stairs. The bathrooms really suck as they are super tiny and the lights are all motion activated which require you to keep constantly moving otherwise the lights would turn off every 2 seconds. Image having to spin your hands every second while you are using the toilet or taking shower just to keep the light on. The hotel staff also refused to accept payment in local DA. Despite hotel fees reported in DA, they would convert the fees to Euros using the black market exchange rate and call it "euro equivalent". We spent 16 days in Algeria in different hotels and this is the only hotel that doesn't accept local currency. Book Atlantis - they accept payment in local DA and you would end up paying the same amount for a much much better quality hotel.
For people that don't have a car, the location was great because it is within walking distance from Casbah.

CanadaThe people at reception were very nice and friendly. I would recommend getting the view towards the sea as the hotel is on top of a hill and it gives a good view. The washrooms need improvement though. Location is good if you want to explore the Casbah area of Algiers.
