How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe bed was really comfy and everything was clean. I appreciated the towel and soap bars. Great location to La Nariz del Diablo train station and close to the bus station. The manager was really helpful.

Verified reviewThe room we got was up a couple of flights of stairs. It was cozy. There are bigger rooms. It was clean and felt modern. The shower room was a good size. I hope they get around to fixing the gap at the bottom of the shower door as it leaves the floor rather wet. The staff are very nice. They recommended a restaurant and a local hike. Personally I'd also recommend the Italian restaurant. When we did the hike, there was no bus back from Nizag. We ended up hitch hiking back. This was very easy. The breakfast is very nice. I would stay here again

Verified reviewI loved how cute the whole place was. It has a central location. Friendly staff. Huge family room.
It was difficult to figure out the hot water in the family room. Beds and pillows were a little uncomfortable.

Verified reviewIt is a hidden gem - the best I’ve stayed in in Ecuador - the breakfast was soo well presented & delicious. Newly renovated yet still has quirks with its eclectic collection displays.. the hosts are lovely people and clearly enjoy visitors without being overbearing..try & fit it into your travels as it’s well placed for a stop over 🥰

Verified reviewMy only regret about visiting Alausi was not staying longer. I first came to hike the Nariz del Diablo which I highly recommend if you want spectacular views, but would have stayed for the small town, the food, the people and the Community Hostel. Don Marco was nothing but welcoming, making me feel right at home, in this beautiful property he has. The rooms were spacious and the breakfast really good. If you have time you can even sit down and chat with him around a cup of tea and a couple cookies. While there I suggest to go eat at La estacion del tren, you might even run into Don Marco eating lunch there. Everyone that I met took the time to chat with me. It is truly the best experience I’ve had so far in Ecuador!

Verified reviewGood and quiet accommodation with very kind hosts, delicious dinner and useful tips for the area. High-speed WiFi for remote work is a big advantage. The hike from Quilotoa Crater to the hostel is challenging, but the views are magnificent.
Nothing. It can get very cold at night, but there are plenty of blankets available. We were the only guests - it’s a pity that Ecuador has very few tourists due to the current political situation. We wish the people here all the best; we had a wonderful stay and didn't encounter any issues. Check out the hiking route from Quilotoa on Komoot. ;)

Verified reviewThis hostel is excellent. It is actually like a hotel. Beautiful, clean. The location is awesome, the city is so beautiful. Marcos will host you like a friend, and help you with anything you need. He helped us book a tour to the lakes, gave us instructions to get to "Nariz del Diablo" by walking on the mountain, and even gave us a lift to the bus station. I highly recommend this place.
No problem at all.

Verified reviewA must stay if you're visiting Alausi, the staff are fantastic the property is located 30 seconds from the train station and the train line is directly outside the door, it's also only a 2 min walk to the black bridge which gives you a beautiful view and if you're adventurous you can carefully cross it.

Verified reviewA very clean hotel and very friendly staff/family that run it. Room was comfortable and clean. Relatively new and well thought out. The room had great storage space! Good location in town and easy to get around.
We had leaking in the shower of our room. Water would seep under the glass panels and flood the bathroom floor. The cleaning product they use on the floors is very waxy. Uncomfortable to walk around barefoot as it leaves a residue on your feet. These are both items that can be fixed easily, writing this for staff to see. Would still definitely stay here again! Oh and you can't use the kitchen as others have said. But I wouldn't let anyone use that beautiful kitchen either. Most backpackers would destroy it.
