How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewAmazing view of the green valley from the terrace, and perfect spot for birdwatching at the dawn and the sunset. Tiny little place with a well equipped kitchen. 3 hamacs to chill and enjoy the sunset.
15 min walk from the town but worth the effort, this is so much quieter up here.

Verified reviewStaff seemed friendly, nice space to chill out, shower had hot water.
The double room was not as shown in pictures. The room was so damp, the smell was so bad we had trouble sleeping and all of our clothes smelt damp after only one night. The double bed is so small it does not really fit two people, maybe better as a single bed. On top of that the bathroom was filthy, with dirt and hair all over the floor. The shower leaked and made the bathroom floor constantly wet. This room should not really be rented out to guests.

A bit out of the middle of town but Mindo is small anyway so didn’t bother me much.

Verified reviewAwesome small hostel run by Mateo. He is very helpful in giving ideas of what to do in Mindo. Only 2 rooms so not crazy busy even when full. Upstairs area where you can look out on the fruit feeders

Verified reviewMateo is a very good host, always making sure you're feeling good and dealing with any questions or interests one may have. He genually enjoys discussing with the guests and share his pride for his region. The hostal is just outside of town (10-15 min of a nice safe walk) so it's very peaceful. A good way to connect with Mindo, its surroundings and the spiritual culture of the area.

Verified reviewThe hospitality was remarkable. The owner took his time to tell me about the birds that come to the backyard, showed me a picture book so I could search and learn about them and set up a feeding station (all after I said birds were my priority for visiting Mindo). He did have all kinds of information to share about other activities. Breakfast was fresh and tasty. Kitchen was well equiped.

Verified reviewMateo was so hospitable, helpful, easy going and very knowledgable on the history of the area! The vibe of the hostel was nothing I’ve ever experience before making you feel apart of the family straight away. I saw over 12 toucans on the first day of my stay from the hostel and saw toucans everyday during my stay! I would recommend for anyone who wants a more authentic experience and to enjoy the peace of mindo valley.

Verified reviewPeaceful property with hammocks, a good daily breakfast and comfy beds. The property was clean and is only about a 10 minute pleasant walk into the town. Big thanks to Mateo, the owner, for showing me around the area too! If I visit Mindo in the future, I would definitely stay again.

Verified reviewThe staff were friendly and it offers interesting tours of the area. It’s a very small hostel and feels quiet and peaceful.
It’s really far out of town. If you’re planning to use it as a base and be out and about all the time it’s fine. But there isn’t a lot of communal space.
You are exaggerating when you say that it is outside the town, it is only an 8-minute walk away. Being a hostel in the town, you would not have the opportunity to see toucans from the balcony and see as much biodiversity as yourself could enjoy. The people who choose the INTI It is because they want to see and feel in the real Mindo and have experiences outside the noise of the town.

Verified reviewMatteo was a great host, super knowledgable about the area - he’s studying anthropology and even lived for a while with one of the local tribes, which you can do a day trip to learn about! I really learned a lot chatting with him and I recommend you do the same. The location was also great - it’s a little bit outside of the town (8 minute walk) which means the bird life is much better. Sitting out on the terrace we saw so many hummingbirds and even a few tucans!

Verified reviewThe hostel is located in the middle of the jungle. The owner is very sociable.
The hostel is very new. The owner lacks experience in managing the property. For example, when I first arrived, the owner wasn’t there and I was not able to reach him. He was going to an expedition with other travelers. I was waiting outside for two hours. When the day I checked out, it’s supposed to be 10am. In the morning right after I was back from the gym, I was told that they were going to a waterfall together with other travelers. It was 830am at that time, leaving me 30 mins to pack. Mateo was kind enough to let me hang out in the common area. However because of the shortage of time I didn’t realise my toiletries were still in the toilet. Couldn’t reach him again. I missed my bus and it messed up my plan. I got him of hanging out with other travellers to make them feel easy. But, as a manager, he should be responsible for all of us. The responsibility of managing a property. Follow proper check out time. And make sure he can be found when he needs to be found. If one only is interested in sharing the culture, he should be active on Couchsurfing not manning a property.

The kitchen is nice, the breakfast is also good. We will always come back here if we come to Mindo. You can organise any trips here, mateo is so knowledgable about everything you need!
