How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewNice room with a great view and kitchen. The pool was nice and it’s very close to the beach.
It was a taxi ride away from everything - Las Tunas only has very few restaurants but otherwise it is very quiet. I was in the hostel in July/August and was almost alone which was not what I expected. There was nothing much available of what was described (no breakfast, no social stuff)

Verified reviewThe hostel is located directly at the beach and the facilities are just beautiful. We were just a few people in off season, so it is really an amazing place to spend a few days a bit more quietly! Ayampe and Puerto López are easily reachable by shared taxi or bus. I highly recommend!

Verified reviewBeautiful concrete style building with lots of tropical plants, pool and hammocks. Quiet at night. Banana pancakes for breakfast
We went there to surf. But they only had 2x 8foot Boards which were broken. It took them a couple of days to fix them so we lost a day of surfing. You also have to reserve these boards every morning and the big boards were in high demand. For a surf hostel I found the equipment they provided not sufficient. Volunteers run place. They were friendly but do many that none knew what we talked to with the other one. They were also a bit to themselves/closed group.

Verified reviewAwesome spot to chill with great people and staff that really feel like a community. Good uncrowded surf and plenty of nooks for everyone to have their own space. Nice selection of rental boards that are not junk and great breakfast.
Bathroom in dorms was quite small and thus got dirty quick.

Verified reviewThere are alot of places to stay around the world, and most of them are in it for the money - but not this one. I had no real desire to go to Las Tunas, but after backpacking around Ecuador and Peru for a while, all of the favorite people I met on the road seemed to have the exact same recommendation: Go to Onda Hostel. So I texted the hostel owners on Whatsapp, where they proceeded to be somehow genuinely interested in answering my millions of questions over text before I arrived, arranging for transport, and even picking me up a massive guanabana just because I casually mentioned once I'd like to try it. The beds are comfortable, the A/C is cool, and the coffee is endless, but it's truly the people that make this place great. The owners are passionate about building a community and they instill that same stoke in their volunteers. If you're looking to stay in a place with some atmosphere, there is none greater in the Americas. I booked at this hostel for two days and stayed on for weeks, only leaving because I had to. To my new friends that I've made at Las Tunas - Thank you, and I'll be back soon!

Verified reviewGerman Manager woman was pretty nice and the only one making an effort to include us.
We came there during off-season (October). Around 5 volunteers (20-30yo) lived there and we were the only guests. We felt like we were disturbing their “The Beach” like vacation… was weird vibes, most of them were either shy or fairly closed to strangers.

Verified reviewPretty relaxed, nice breakfast, easy going volunteers, nice beach. Free water, safe area. In general great value for the price.
Just a bit more cleanness in the kitchen, especially with the trash bins, would be nice. Also that the plates and utensils would be stored in closed shelfs would be better. Cockroaches might appear in the bedroom despite having no food there, it's not nice to find them crawling on the beds.

Verified reviewGreat location in a quiet town just 3 min walk from the beach! If you are looking for a place to disconnect, hear the sound of the waves and surf this is perfect! We even saw turtles hatching at the beach just walking
Most people working there and visitors are foreigners and don't speak Spanish so if you are looking for a local experience maybe that's not the best place

I was given a top bunk and there were some kind of droppings all over the bed. Every time I brushed them off they would come back. It was really unhygienic and I got very sick after the second day. The staff seemed busy and the manager did not seem to care

Verified reviewExcellent location in a quiet town along the coast. About half the people staying there are both semi-permanently living there and returning each year which helps to create a real family atmosphere, and also really welcoming to new guests! Perfect place if you want to have a chilled/non-party vibe while enjoying the surf and the coast!
