Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ColombiaNothing really related to the hostel itself, more to the travelers who were disrespectful, talking, packing and repacking at 1-2am, leaving their stinky socks outside so you can’t breathe. Maybe having a little kitchen would be great.
Loved everything! Thanks to the hostel I enjoyed Quito trip in general! It was fun, clean, great showers and plenty of toilets around, food is great and family dinner are awesome! The views from the rooftop bar is amazing and the hostel is close to everything! Free water, tea, and coffee all day long is a great deal as well.

Great hostel with clean facilities, comfortable beds, cheap prices and a lot of social areas to hang out. Definitely the best hostel to stay in Quito. A special thanks to Rodrigo from the staff team who went all and above to help me figure out some bank issues 🙏🏼

United States1) Double-charged because they ask on checkout what did you eat/drink while there and it gets added again despite being already on the bill, 2) Charged for coffee with Good Morning breakfast EVERY time despite menu saying Americano is a choice, 3) Booking.com says 50% off food/drink but only discount is the 2 for 1 Happy Hour on selected drinks. They made me feel bad for questioning and asking to see the bill but 2 & 3 this is easily fixed on their own website & Booking.com listing.
Ticks all the boxes but be prepared to hold them to published info. Selected double room with shared bath - clean, quirky style & they have thought of everything. Cool vibe and everyone is super helpful. Excursions are fantastic. Great hostel for meeting other similar travelers and excursions.

PeruThere was no kitchen for me to cook any of the food I saw plentiful in the markets. A mirror to check how I look before leaving would be nice. 24 hour coffee availability for us addicts. Nothing else comes to mind seems like you have a winning formula.
First the customer service was great. The security was alert. I felt safe. The bed is comfortable. Nice privacy setup with power for phones built in.. The hot showers scattered throughout the place. The great attitude of all the people working there gave a sense of reliability that allowed me to relax my burdons a few extra days. Also the massage chair on the third helped with some back and leg tension, a nice feature found on the third or fourth floor.

DenmarkThe music is loud during the evening (until 23 pm ish), though it is mostly heard in the common areas and the rooms at the top floor (e.g. Yellow dorm room) and one time they had an event, it was possible to hear the music loudy even outside on the street and guests weren't warned about this which would have been nice to know especially those of us who had to wake up early the next morning. The food is a bit expensive for Quito (which is kind of expected). You shouldn't walk around the area after dark, but I think most hostels are in the same area and the staff is helpful with booking a taxi.
The secret garden is without a doubt the most popular hostel in Quito, so you will definitely meet people here! The hostel can help with tours, transportation etc. and they are all super sweet. The facilities were good and overall it was very clean with bathrooms getting cleaned several times a day. There are even a massage chair.

United KingdomThe noise went on till later and started earlier than expected, with kitchen/prep staff playing music early in the AM.
It’s got a good rep for a reason. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. The rooftop bar/restaurant and the views are spectacular. The food is good too. Very easy to do tours from and you meet some cool people easily.

South AfricaThe double twin room was a tiny bit stuffy, as the window didn’t open for fresh air. But very comfortable regardless.
Bathrooms were really clean. Beds were comfortable. Food and rooftop bar were amazing - great for socialising, plenty of charging points for devices, happy hour and incredible views of the city. Great luggage storage facilities! Pretty much had everything you need.

GermanyWe really enjoyed our stay at The Secret Garden. It's loved by backpackers for a reason and it's worth every cent. The staff is exceptional and very engaged in helping you with your stay at Quito. We did book a tour to the amazon with them and it was the best experience we had in South America. The building has a very cool style and the rooftop bar is perfect for breakfast and drinks in the evening alike (especially with the guest discount). The dorm was well equipped, clean and had comfortable beds with everything you need. The bathrooms were plenty, always clean and the showers were hot.

PortugalAs mentioned above, sometimes there is noise coming from indoors and outdoors (the street venders, etc.), but they have a curfew at 11:00 PM which helps.
Despite the noise level sometimes I have decided to give it 10/10, since this place is amazing in terms of the services, vibe, location, cleanliness, ample and cool common areas, location and proximity to the historical centre and more. If I’m ever again in Quito, I will be back!
