How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

The window (ground floor, right) would look much better if cleaned.

Verified reviewThe hostel was clean, quiet, and in a great location close to the Old Town. The staff were friendly and helpful, which made the stay even better.
The bathrooms didn’t have power outlets, except for the one in the basement, which was a bit inconvenient.

Verified reviewGreat location and staff
Bed felt like cardboard and caused a little pain. The rest of the room was very comfortable, however.

WC and the bathroom were not in the same floor as the room.

Verified reviewI really enjoyed my stay. The location is great at a walking distance from Old Town. Overall atmosphere was good and the kitchen had sufficient facilities.

Verified reviewClose to the old city. Room was clean at check-in.
Room was clean, when I moved in, but I've stayed 7 nights, and not even the thrash can was emptied during this time. So at the end of my stay, the room was somewhat dirty. I think once in 3-4 days some minimal cleaning shall be done and at least the thrash can shall be emptied. There was no bathtub outlet or mop to clean up the water after shower. Fridge is only in the common kitchen, which is in the basement - my room was on the 3rd floor, and there was no elevator, so it is not too practical.

Verified reviewThe location is convenient, electric key works fine, sheets were clean
Weather was not very hot (23-25) but there was very hot at times in the room, and there was only one table fan which was a bit broken too. There was one towel for each person, but not a single hand towel, toiletries also minimal. We had one roll of toilet paper for 3 people for 2 nights. Went to ask more from the front desk, and the person did not even get up to reach into a bag to give us one more roll. So they were very used to people coming to ask for more. All in all, the entire experience had a very “bare minimum” feel. Price is of course not bad, but considering what else is available, we felt it was not really worth it.
Thanks for your detailed feedback, Sanni. Our historic building sadly means no air conditioning is possible, but fans are available on request and we’ll certainly check the one you mentioned. As a hostel we keep things simple to offer some of the lowest rates in Tallinn, but basics like towels and toilet paper are of course available. Some more extras, like toiletries and extra towels can be bought from reception if needed, but they aren't included in rooms. Apologies for the toilet paper being so limited in your room - this was an oversight by us, but as you mentioned, more is always available at our 24h reception. Fat Margaret's

Verified reviewThe staff were friendly. The room was clean. The location is between the station and the port, and it's also convenient for walking to the old town.
The house is close to a busy road and has no air conditioning, so the windows must be opened to circulate air, which causes noise and exhaust fumes to come in at night. The bathroom on the second floor does not provide shampoo and shower gel.

Verified reviewThe room (twin ensuite) was so comfortable! high ceilings, spacious, lots of lights, and very comfortable beds. Laundry was a big plus, sauna a super relaxing start to the day, and the self serve complimentary waffle station an added bonus. I've seen a lot of hostels - this is truly an example of a hostel hostelling superbly. Well done.

Verified reviewI loved the location and the building itself, rooms were clean and very big.
Nothing everything was okay. A little bit expensive taking into consideration that it was a bed in a shared room

Verified reviewThe location is great as well the staff!
Actually, I liked it all besides 2 things. First, the quality of ventilation. It was very humiditive in the room, with not enough fresh air. Opening a window was no option as it did not feel safe on the 1st floor. Second, there was no soap in the bathroom whatsoever. A bit strange... A small piece of soap/show gel bottle would have solved it all...Though when I asked it was given to me.

Verified reviewGood value for money, location was comfortable, close to city center and public transport. The room was clean, beds comfortable, not much noice from other rooms or guests. Quick and easy check-in, everything felt safe and welcoming.
The building is on the main street, so for light sleepers the noise from cars can be distracting. There were quite limited essentials in the room, only two towels, one bin in the bathroom, no additional trash bags, no kettle or even glasses to drink from, for a separate ensuite room, it would have been an appreciated bonus. Also gets warm from the sun quickly, no air conditioning, but there was a fan in the room. Didn't need to use it though, as keeping the windows open helped to clear the air quickly, since it was around +18 degrees outside.

Verified reviewI loved the location, just a short walk into the old town and a few minutes from a beach spot. I also got the ferry into Tallinn and loved that it was an easy 15 minute walk. My room was nothing fancy but it was clean and spacious enough for one person. Same with the bathroom! The kitchen space was good too! Also had luggage storage which was helpful.
Sort of on a main road so you'll hear noise with the window open but it wasn't too bad at night.
Thanks very much, Emma! Very glad to hear you had a great stay with us. You're welcome back anytime! Fat Margaret's

Verified reviewThe staff were nice, and everything was like the photos. The lockers in the room were HUGE, and you don’t need your own lock. Everything was clean in the room and in the shared spaces too. The kitchen was a good size, and there was enough seating too. In the morning there is waffle batter too which was fun. Towels are also provided if that is something you’re worried about. The hostel is also in a great spot where you could walk to most things.
There was only one shower and toilet on each floor, and then the rest were all downstairs near the shared kitchen. This wasn’t necessarily a problem, but something to note.
Thanks for the kind words, Erin! Glad to hear everything went well during your stay and you had a great time. Come back anytime for some more waffles! Fat Margaret's
